The" New Dawn" continues to Rise in the South of Brisbane; NOW is the time to widen our net in the hunt for new members. You are all ambassadors of the South East SUNS, let s maintain the enthusiasm. Sell a club that represents the whole region, engage local businesses and communities and recruit volunteers, break down cultural perceptions and sell our AFL product to the community. Memberships are now available for $0 for non-players, that includes an embossed key ring, club discounts and weekly draws. We have a bank account so membership are able to be purchased. The Southeast SUNS AFC (SES) Inc, BSB , Suncorp Bank Springwood, Account number There will also be packages available from businesses, corporate or individuals to become members through larger support; for example The 500SUNS Club or 00SUNS club. Details can be obtained from any committee member. The Logan council has committed $70,000 to its 015 Budget for the main field upgrade. A big thanks to Councillor Luke Smith for his wonderful support. The second field works for $54,000 have started. The oval size will be 165m * 145m. We have submitted an application to the community gambling fund for a LED score board and have a quote for a second set of change rooms. Matt Reid has come on board the coach s sub-committee along with Daryl Dickenson; Ken Bentley is working on a Strategic plan. Jay Keegan and Mark Kennedy are developing a cultural awareness program. Further- SPRING 014 more past president Kevin Johnson is looking at a role and is currently giving ideas on our Mission statement. It has been just 5 weeks since our inaugural meeting and we have achieved so much. Have a read of our mission statement Ads have been posted for coaches and applications have already been received; A keeping fit session is on every Tuesday under the guidance of Bruce Cure and we have had fantastic attendance for this time of year (around 0). Bumpers stickers have been designed (a big thankyou to Fallon Williams) and sponsorship proposals forwarded to potential sponsors. We will provide the opportunity for members and supporters to enjoy the game of Australian Rules football in a safe supportive and fun environment. The opportunity to participate, to compete and be physically active. We endeavour to provide pathways and opportunities for all children in junior AFL. SES helps children become physically active and learn important life skills about teamwork, leadership and discipline, and skill development.

2 Page THE VICE PRESIDENTS CORNER The rising of a new dawn has commenced. It has been a number of weeks since the creation of the Southeast SUNS started. It hasn t been easy but it is certainly generating a lot of interest and enthusiasm as it picks up momentum. We have formed a strong and very committed committee to make this a successful AFL club for the Logan City region and beyond. We have Ben Head as our inaugural President setting the pace as he takes on the challenge of bringing everything together, he is working tirelessly with all members of the committee to ensure the SUNS is the most respected AFL club both on and off the field in the Southeast. It all starts with us, Respect can only be achieved with all new club members coming on board and becoming a part of a new culture that is family friendly and is enjoyed by all who join and support this dynamic new club. These are exciting times for all and we encourage everybody to get involved, have input and commit to our club the Southeast SUNS. Details can be obtained from any committee member. SOUTH EAST SUNS INFORMATION EVENING Tuesday 3rd September will be an U/19 and Senior information evening from 7pm after Training with Bruce. Information regarding coaches, training, pre-season, club uniforms and even more news for the SUNS in season 015 Pizza for dinner will be provided, jumper designs and all visuals of all apparel's shown. All players who are going to join the mighty South East SUNS in 015 are asked to attend.

3 Page 3 SOUTH EAST SUNS AFC NEWSLETTER COACHES WANTED A NEW DAWN IS RISING IN LOGAN SOUTHEAST SUNS REQUIRE COACHES FOR 015 The Southeast SUNS Football Club who compete in the QAFA (A) Competition are looking for expressions of interest for the following positions for the 015 season: * Senior Coach * Reserve Grade Coach * Under 19 Coach * Assistant Coaches (Seniors, Reserves, U19 s) The successful applicants should have a good understanding of teaching the basic fundamentals of the game, have a desire to develop young players, good communication skills, and be able to fit into the coaching and core value philosophy of the SOUTHEAST SUNS Football Club. If you or someone you know has a desire to coach at a higher level of community football and have previous experience, then you are welcome to apply. Applicants should hold a minimum Level 1 AFL Coaching accreditation or be seeking a Level certificate. More information can be obtained from Ben Head on or All applications will be received in strictest confidence and close on September 30, 014. The interview process will commence at the beginning of October. Key responsibilities will include: * Regular post match discussion s with coaches, football managers and players * Maintain communication with the entire Senior List including the Under 19 s * Regular contact with team medical staff * Coordinate weekly selection meetings We seek a self- motivated individual with: * The ability to guide a strong culture value along with a very strong management committee. So for those that are having withdrawals or you just want to keep fit over the break between now and Official Pre-Season Bruce Cure will be running the sessions each Tuesday night from 6:30pm till the beginning of Preseason All players are encouraged to come down juniors also welcome. Where: Tansey Park When: 6:30pm Tuesday For anymore info call Bruce Cure AFL 9 S AFL 9 s is a none contact version of AFL its fast and fun, anyone can play Inc. women and juniors so for anyone interested we have a couple of teams that will be entered in the competition starting 17th October. 4 Page 4 A LOOK AT THE HORIZON I first joined our club in 1981, and to be bluntly honest, the club has not progressed or grown too much in that time. I am not putting down the efforts or success of the people running the club over that time, I was one of them, but we did lack the vision to go on like Springwood and Redlands have. The time is now to move on and create a new force in the southern suburbs of Brisbane. We have everything at Tansey Park, two ovals, one the exact size of the MCG, and plenty of room to expand. We have the support and assistance of the AFLQ who want to see the club as the hub of football from the Gold Coast to Brisbane. They want to see us evolve to be a strong and powerful body in the AFLQ. We are going to be the place where other clubs send their juniors for progression to the AFL. The first meeting of the new Club has taken place and it was great to see the people from Beenleigh Buffaloes there with the enthusiasm and vision for the betterment of Australian Football in our area, It was disappointing that some members of the Beenleigh Buffaloes Club were influenced by people who do not see the big picture to make an even stronger and more powerful club and will not join us. Never mind, we have the people from Beenleigh on board the Suns that were the strength of that club last season and we will succeed. We have a bubbling cauldron of ideas and plans for the future, the new electronic scoreboard, the expansion and improvement of the Number Oval, the establishment of an Under 19's, new colours, new jumpers, another change room. We have the support of the Logan City Council, Sports and Recreation Department and the AFLQ. The dawning of a new day of football in the area has arrived, I am enthusiastic about it. Don't be left behind. Ken Bentley ACCELERATION ESP QLD We have also begun talks with Acceleration ESP QLD, To organise a South East SUNS Acceleration program through the pre-season. The program would be something like the following. * 10 week program * Maximum 30 athletes * 60 min sessions * 1 evening / week There focus will be on: * Injury prevention training * Bodyweight strength training * Speed and agility development, * Field conditioning * Overall Fitness. These sessions will come at an approximate cost of $5 per player More information will be available once sessions are confirmed. Individual sessions can also be arranged. Simply visit the website or contact Haley Crew: BURNSIDE TAVERN MEAT RAFFLES As most of you would know by now the Burnside Tavern allows us to sell meat trays on a Friday afternoon. This allows the club to make extra money in particular in the off season to help cover things such as rent. Any players or supporters are encouraged to come down and show some support for the club, help us raise some money and have some fun in doing so. Every week you will find Leigh O Brien, Luke Head & Micheal Young down there selling tickets so come on down have a beer and show some support for the SUNS.
