1 N Volume 36, Issue 2 February 2019 Prez Sez I was fortunate to have attended the Chicago musky show last month. I was blown away by all the different bait companies and the number of people at the show despite the heavy snowfall on Friday night. Being at the show, gave me opportunities to rub elbows with several well-known musky personalities. They all seem to have similar types of characteristics, hard-working, dedicated, resilient, and love to tell stories of behemoths. All of us who fish for musky can relate to a good fish story or two. As I was visiting the various booths, I struck up a conversation with a fellow from a musky club in Chicago. He inquired about our musky school. I briefed him on the upcoming school and all the different types of classes that will be offered. I then asked him question about how he knew of the CCMI musky school? He stated that he had never really been there, but that several of his friends from his club had attended over the years. He shared that their reviews were overwhelmingly positive. I thanked him for the feedback as I gradually moved on. It suddenly dawned on me that our school has much of the same appeal as any musky show. A bunch of very knowledgeable musky anglers, that are accessible, and that you can listen and learn from. I am looking forward to the CCMI musky school for these reasons. The club held one of its most important meetings this last month. The annual budget meeting establishes the clubs financial plan for the next year including projecting revenues and determining budgets for various events. Our budget reflects the generosity of club members, so I would like to extend a big THANK YOU! If you have any specific questions about the budget please contact me or our treasurer April Cook. Finally, the club has a number of upcoming opportunities to get your musky fix. The annual awards night occurs on February 11. The awards night is a great opportunity to honor the accomplishments of CCMI members. Later in the month, we will have a booth at the Wisconsin Fishing Expo and sell tickets for the ranger boat and have the garage sale. In March we have the musky school and the annual fundraiser will be in April. Attending these events seems to make the winter months go by quickly and serve as a way of preparing for the upcoming season. As always, see our website or the newsletter for upcoming events and to sign up for the school. Finally, GO make some memories. Winston Hopkins - President CCMI 35 th Annual Muskie Seminar Featured Speakers Lee Tauchen & Robbie Jarnigo February General Meeting The next general meeting is on February 11 at 7:00 PM. 3 Release Report Todd Berge- Release Chairman / ccmireleasechair@gmail.com It would appear no one has traveled south to catch a musky yet this year, so nothing to report for 2019 yet. The big news is the CCMI Annual Awards Ceremony next month on February 11th at the Coliseum Bar. This is always a great event as we get to share stories and see pictures of the biggest fish caught by our chapter in It is also nice to recognize those fishermen who put the time and effort in to win the various overall categories. Also, this is where we do our drawings for the two free musky replicas. If you caught a musky 45 inches or greater, registered it with Muskies Inc, and sent me a picture of your fish, you have a chance to win a replica! There are still quite a few individuals who have not sent me their pictures and thus are not eligible to win. Once again, send to ccmireleasechair@gmail.com. I am looking forward to a great crowd. See you soon! Link - Link Available at Dorn Midvale and D&S Bait Link - Follow us on social media! Post your fishing pictures, tag the club, and share with our members Muskie Ink Page 3
