2 Fishing For Fun (FFF) Non-Profit Organization Providing Free Fishing and Boating Trips 2

3 Mission To create memories and camaraderie by providing free fishing and boating trips for seniors, care centers, veterans, youths, and anyone who would like to participate, in the northern suburbs of St. Paul and surrounding communities. 3

5 Accomplishments 85 of 96 trips scheduled (89%) - 57 fishing: 27 morn/30 afternoon - 28 boating 59 Active Volunteers 25 Captains (drive the boat) 54 will serve as Mates 22 NEW VOLUNTEERS! 5

15 Safety Requirements For All Everyone must wear a life jacket. NO alcohol, smoking or illegal drugs allowed on dock or pontoon. Guests must remain seated while underway. 15

16 Safety Requirements for Captains/Mates NO alcohol for 10 hours before trip. Captains must have a valid drivers license. Captains must be at least 26 years old. 16

17 Captain and Mates Review Minnesota Boating Guide Consider MN Boaters Safety Course. Background Checks performed Please wear FFF shirts and work as a team on trips. Minimum 3 trips recommended 17

18 Captain and Mate Duties Captains Perform pre-trip Master Checklist, drive pontoon and assist guests, complete Trip Report Mates Assist guests with life jackets, boarding and conversing, passing out water, pushing off pontoon and assist with docking 18

19 Trip Procedures Arrive at dock 30 minutes before launch. Complete Master Checklist. Guests must have life jackets on before getting to dock. Escort and assist guests to pontoon. Collect Release of Liability forms (extra on pontoon). Use microphone, make introductions, discuss mission. 19

20 Trip Procedures Take pictures! Send to Evan for future use. Pass out water to guests. Pass out donation envelopes at end. At end of trip, escort guests off pontoon and assist in removing life jackets. Tidy up the boat for next trip. Complete the Trip Report. Store all forms in the waterproof box. 20

21 Fishing Trips All rods, reels, lures and bait provided. Captain and two mates assist guests with fishing. All volunteers on a fishing trip must carry their valid fishing license. Catch and Release only Care Center staff s primary responsibility is residents safety and comfort. If possible, assist crew with fishing. 21

22 Bait Retrieve from Ken s Market at 788 Cleveland Avenue SW in New Brighton. Account is set up so no payment is needed. Please give your name and FFF. The Captain of the first fishing trip of the week should pick up 4 boxes of night crawlers. Bait stored in refrigerator in Johanna Shores garage. If garage door is not open, use phone in yellow box to gain access. 22

23 Bait Wash off worms and put on ice for trip. Return unused bait to refrigerator. Captains should keep track of how much is in refrigerator and let the next captain know if they need to buy more bait. Everyone will have a listing of volunteers and their phone numbers. Also one in storage box. 23

24 Weather Safety and comfort are a priority. Captain checks the forecast 1.5 hours before trip to make final call to cancel: It is Captain s responsibility to notify the Guests Contact Person and Mates of cancellation. When cancelling, ask Group to contact Evan to reschedule the trip. 24

25 Weather Lightning/Thunder Bring guests back to Johanna Shores, disembark and take shelter in Johanna Shores as quickly as possible. Trips should be cancelled if temperature or heat index is over 95 degrees at time of trip. If any guests are being affected by heat/heat index, return immediately to Johanna Shores. 25

26 Serious Injuries/Illness CALL 911 Go directly to public boat landing to meet paramedics. Contact Julie Overbye Ledy at We are NOT trained to administer medical assistance. Care Center staff is responsible. Complete Injury Report. 26
