We are honoured to represent and serve you as President, Captain & Lady Captain as we embark on a new year filled with great golf and great friendships. We intend to continue the good work of previous officers of our club and promote Bearna Golf Club whenever possible and would urge you to do likewise. A priority for all of us this year will be to retain existing members, attract new ones and encourage visitors to play on our course. Our Men s & Ladies Committees are committed to ensuring the smooth running of our club and your continued support to them is greatly appreciated. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to our sponsors for their continued support, and would encourage you to support them whenever possible. We are blessed with a wonderful location for playing golf and the ever improving condition of our course. The dedication and hard work from both management and course staff has been evident in recent times, with many improvements both on and off the course and there s a lot more planned for the coming year. 8 Men s Golfer of the Year Kindly Sponsored by Flaherty Markets 2018 Bearna GC Men s Golfer of the Year RULES: The Golfer of the Year season will consist of: Regular weekend GOY events as marked in the diary. 4 Major Events: Masters, Lady Captain to Men, Captain s and President s Prizes 4 Bearna Golf Championship Competitions. The top 20 players in the regular events are awarded points based on the scoring table, which is posted on the notice board and the web site. The 4 Majors will attract double points, the Bearna Golf Championship will attract one and a half points for the top 20 players, which will count towards the overall GOY total. The 2018 GOY prize will be awarded to the player who has the highest total from his best 15 events after the final GOY event. This person will be awarded the GOY prize and will be entitled to park in the GOY designated parking space for the 2019 golf season. The use of buggies is allowed for all club competitions, except for the 4 MAJORS (i.e. Captains, Presidents, Masters and Lady Captain to Men). A medical certificate is required for the use of a buggy in the 4 Majors. Most Improved Men s Golfer Kindly sponsored by Kieran Bowden The golfer who demonstrates the most significant progress over the course of the year. Decision made by the percentage of shots lost against the player s handicap on the 1 st of January 2018.

9 Ladies Golfer of the Year Kindly Sponsored by Breda Barry 2018 Bearna GC Lady Golfer of the Year RULES: The points awarded for the Golfer of the Year competition are allocated for the Top 10 net scores in each of the designated competitions. The events are: All 18 hole qualifying competitions in Bearna Golf & Country Club held between January 1 st 2018 and September 16 th 2018 inclusive. Lady Captain s Prize, Captains Prize to Ladies, President s Prize & Masters (double points) Points will be allocated as follows: 18 Hole Singles Competition (as above) 1st 12 points 2nd 10 points 3rd 8 points 4th to 10th: 7,6,5,4,3,2 and 1 point respectively Please Note There are no allocated points towards GOY for the winners/runners up of the club singles match play. The person with the highest number of points at the end of the year will be deemed to be the winner of Golfer of the Year. The winner will be awarded the GOY prize and will be entitled to park in the Ladies GOY parking space for the 2019 golf season. In the event of a tie for first place an 18 hole singles stableford competition will decide the winner. Most Improved Lady Golfer (Kindly sponsored by Mary Wyer) The golfer who, in the opinion of the Ladies Committee has demonstrated the most significant progress over the course of the season (January 1 st 2018 until October 1 st 2018). Consideration will be given to the number of shots lost and the player s handicap category.

10 CLUB MATCH PLAY RULES 2018 The Stipulated Round in Match Play is 18 holes. 1. Singles: The lowest handicapped player goes to scratch. The other player then plays off the full difference between their competition handicap and that of the lowest player. Shots are then taken in accordance to the course stroke indexes. 2. Fourball: The lowest handicapped player goes to scratch. The other players play off 90% of the difference between their competition handicap and that of the lowest handicapped player. Shots are then taken in accordance to the course stroke indexes. 3. Foursomes: Handicap allowance is half the difference between the combined handicaps. Shots are then taken in accordance to the Men s course stroke index marked on the card. 4. Competitors must play off their current handicap. 5. All players attention is drawn to Rule of Golf 6.2a regarding their responsibility to ensure that they play off their correct handicap and declares same to their opponent prior to the commencement of play. 6. Due to the extended time given for each round it is the responsibility of the competitors to ensure that their matches are played on time. All players have equal responsibility for contacting each other and arranging a suitable date to play their match. Players on the top of the draw have the honour on the 1 st tee. 7. GPS devices are allowed. 8. A match play competition and a stroke play/stableford competition must not be played at the same time. Club Matchplay Overseers Men Ted Vaughan Ladies Clare Cunningham

11 Members Notices The attention of all members and particularly beginners is drawn to the Rules of Golf - Section 1 regarding Courtesy and Priority on the Course and also Care of the Course. For insurance purposes members are required to register in the club house before commencing play. Remember the three "R's"; Replace Divots, Rake Bunkers and Repair Pitch marks. No practising is allowed onto the greens. A person playing on his own may only play two balls. All Competitions must start on the 1st Tee unless otherwise stated by the Committee. Slow Play Slow play spoils the enjoyment of other players. Please play at a rate/pace that will hold your place on the course and, if necessary, remind those playing with you to do the same. If you are holding up the players behind, you must speed up or allow them to play through. Time-Sheet Players whose names are on the 'Timesheet' have absolute right of way on the 1st Tee. Ladies Transportation Policy (Men s under GOY page) The use of buggies in competitions is allowed if a player is in possession of a current medical certificate. GPS The use of GPS devices is permitted in all club competitions.

12 Junior/Student Members. The policy for student members can be viewed in the club-house. Junior/Student members who are also members of the Mens/Ladies Clubs are not eligible to win the Captain s or Lady Captain s Prize, the Captain s to Ladies Prize and the Lady Captain to Men s Prize, President s or Masters Prizes. Standard of Dress Neat dress is essential both on the course and in the Clubhouse. Presentations Recipients of prizes that do not make provision to collect their prize on the Presentation night will forfeit the prize.
