1 Green #10, Mountainview - Kings Island Golf Resort OPN LTTRS We are just getting over a hot summer and moving into the high season. There has been plenty of rain and some extreme heat which makes it tough to maintain a quality golf course. With the temperature about to get cooler this allows us to do our regular maintenance and get the golf course in pristine condition. Coring of the tees, greens and fairways should be completed mid-september. With no more necessary major maintenance the golf course will be as we all enjoy it during this high season perfect! As we get closer to the high season there will be more and more golfers so please remember to book your tee time to receive your preferred time. Golfers without bookings has been a problem in the past and we would like to see this issue come to an end once and for all. Your cooperation will only help things for yourself and other golf enthusiasts. This also means that we will have the Shuttle bus up and running on Wednesday & Friday everyweek again from September for those that rely on. Fortunately this summer has not been as rainy as previous summers. Though at times we have had our significant rainfall events we have not suffered as much as we could have. The summer months put tremendous stress on the turf grass. Similar to the stress it puts on us humans when we are playing. We get very hot - grass gets hotter by 20% We sweat more - grass transpires (sweats) more by 40-50% Insects bite us - grass gets assaulted with worms, grubs, mole crikets, stinging bees, flying wasps and burrowing animals We need more food - grass needs more fertilizer We need more rest - grass needs much more rest but has no where to go to get the rest it needs It is safe to say it is more difficult for the grass to live a healty life than it is for us (golfers) during the summer months (at least we can get out of the heat). Now we come to autumn soon. The stress levels for golfers and grass will be greatly reduced. You will soon see your golf scores reflect the milder weather and lower heat. Likewise you will see the grass a lot happier with reduced daylight hours and more time to sleep where it can heal itself just the way your body heals itself when you sleep. So get your rest and make your plans to come and enjoy the happy grass time coming the next 4 months.

This is a shotgun start at 3:30 pm on the Mountainview course. The event is stroke play format for all members and their guests. The 2012 Kings Island Club Championship is scheduled on November 23rd for the Ladies and November 24th for the Men. The event will be followed with a formal party at the Hilton Hanoi Opera Hotel. Sign-ups will be available late October. The Fall Night Golf During late August and early September we have been coring/aerating and verti-cutting greens, tees and fairways on both the Lakeside and Mountain View courses. Lakeside Mountainview GRNS CORING DATS AT KINGS ISLAND GOLF RSORT September 10th & 11th Aug 27th & 28th After the greens are cored it will take approximately 2 weeks for the greens to recover back to a quality playing surface. The maintenance team apologizes for any inconvenience to your game during this period but it is necessary to carry out these maintenance practices to keep both courses in pristine condition all year round. Also during over the next 3 months we will be rebuilding the 11th Green on the Lakeside course. The green will be made larger and reshaped to add more of a challenge to your putting skills. Greenside bunkers will also come into play to test your approach shots into the green. The green will take approximately 3 weeks to construct and then another 8 to 10 weeks to grow-in before it will be playable. During the time of construction and grown-in the hole will be played with a temporary green approximately 75 yards from the existing green. 6 UP COMING August was a wet month with the passing of two typhoons. Shyang Yih continued hammering the rock mound on hole 15 and was able to get it down to grade. With the continued use of water pumps, the lake on hole 11 was completed and excavation started in the wetland at hole 2. PSI has finished the irrigation design and it will not be long before all the materials and pump station are ordered. We look forward to the next phases of construction beginning soon. 9 GOLF ACADMIC BUNKR PLAY Many times players find themselves in a green side bunker and it takes a few attempts to get the ball out and onto the green. Follow my simplified directions below as they will help you improve your bunker play and lower your scores. 1. The set-up position is critical to great bunker shots. Position your body OPN or facing more right of the target than usual. Have a little extra flex in your knees. And set the club face open like your body; to the right of the target. (Figures 1 & 2) Practice these techniques and try them on the course during your next round. I am sure you will see an improvement in your bunker shot performance. 2. Be sure to wiggle your feet 2-6cm deep into the sand to gain balance. Grip down on the club as much as you sink your feet into the sand. 3. The backswing size will be determined by the length of the shot. But be sure to set a quick wrist hinge to create the right angle to attack the sand from. (Figure 3) 4. The impact is different from that of a regular fairway shot. In the bunker we are trying to hit the sand first and have the ball splash out. Aim 2 4 cm before the ball and concentrate on striking the sand here. 5. Since we don t contact the ball, it is important to be consistent with your swing speed and to come to a full follow through. vans Mahoney PGA of Canada Professional Director of Golf Do Son Seaside Golf Resort Rules Q&A 1-3/2 Agreement to Concede Short Putts Question: In a match, the two players agree in advance to concede all putts within a specified length. Is this agreement contrary to Rule 1-3? Answer: In order to be in breach of Rule 1-3 for agreeing to waive a Rule, players must be aware that they are doing so. Therefore, the answer depends on whether the players knew that Rule 2-4 only allows the concession of the next stroke and does not permit them to agree in advance to concede putts within a specified length. If the players were unaware that the Rules prevented them from agreeing to concede putts in this manner, there is no penalty under Rule 1-3. If the players were aware that they were excluding the operation of a Rule then they are disqualified under Rule Accelerate the club into and out of the sand and splash some sand up and onto the green. 11 F&B SRVICS Grilled Duck in La Lot leaves Swing restaurant at Do Son Seaside Golf Rersort Ingredients: 550g duck brisket, 100g pig s nape fat, 200g lá lốt leaves, 1/2 pipeapple, 5 wood ear mushroom, 10 cloves garlic, 2 sallots, 50g mince grass lemon, 2 tonalchiles, salt. Spices: salt, sugar, pepper, vinegar, fish sauce, oyster oil. Direction: - To clean the duck with a small handful of salt, rub the duck all over, rinse well, dry, remove the bone and skin, finely minced. To boil the pig s nape fat, cut up into tiny cubes. To clean la lot leave, dry. To mince finely pineapple. To soak the wood ear mushroom soft, to cut up into fibre. Mince finely garlic, sallots and tonachile. - To mix the duck with pig s nape fat, wood ear mushroom, ½ spoon of fish sauce, 1 spoon of minced garlic and sallots and 2 spoons of salt, 1 spoon of pepper, 1 spoon of oyster oil and minced lemon grass. To put these mixture on La lot leave and roll. To grill on the fire. njoy: - To make the sauce: mixing 4 spoons of fish sauce with 2 spoons of sugar, 2 spoons of vinegar, minced pineapple, chilli and 2 minced garlic.
