ONGERUP BOWLING CLUB CLOSING DAY The Ongerup Bowling Club is hosting their official Closing Day on Sunday 10 April, commencing at 2pm. Come and finish of the season with a friendly game of bowls, followed by a BBQ Steak Dinner. Please bring a salad/sweet to share. Everyone is welcome. 3 ONGERUP GOLF CLUB, Established 1936-Still going strong in hole layout, 6093 Metres, PAR 72, ACR 70. Separate Practice fairway and Green. 18 hole layout designed by Roy Weston and John Wanless in conjunction with PGA professional MARK DUDER. Play commenced 1983 on new design. Australian Course Rating initially established by A O meehan and G White using WAGA guidelines and updated later by WAGA. The Course meanders through a couple of hundred acres of native pristine bush on the edge of town and is very sheltered in many areas. Every hole is completely different to each other which is quite unique in a country layout. Bird life is everywhere and there at least 40 or so resident kangaroos, very quiet and tame. You never know what you will see if you stroll the pleasant links at the Ongerup Golf Club. Course records held by Men-John Wanless-69. Ladies- Janette Thompson SEASON NOW BEGINING with new committee and new ideas. Opening Day Sunday 24 th of April at 12 noon sharp. Sausage sizzle provided from 11 AM before play. Mixed Ambrose completion with tea following play. Full Membership $75. Social Membership $20. SUNDAY GOLF- Names in by am for a 12 noon Hit Off 9 HOLE PLAYERS welcome- be there approximately 2.30 pm for a comfortable finish. Casual players welcome any time, non members please pay by way of a gold coin donation in box provided. All PLAYERS WELCOME- NEW and OLD. We have had new players during 2015 and the future is looking better but we need support from our shrinking community or the district could lose this fine facility in the future. Currently the course presents very well given the huge amount of work done in the last three years. Fairways totally renovated, all Tee boxes rebuilt and new sand greens constructed. Fairways are mown and the Sand greens have been brushed up ready for play. The 19 th hole is there as always, welcoming when the game is over at our freshly painted clubhouse. It looks fresh and inviting to match the previously revamped interior. This work was done courtesy of Skeigh Weston. Golf can be played and enjoyed at any level depending on the individual. It s a great walk for all at the ONGERUP GOLF CLUB. Come and enjoy soon Maurice O Neill Wins Bowling Club Scroungers Competition The Ongerup Bowling Club has held a Friday night Scroungers competition over the last 6 months. This has been organised and sponsored by Mick Creagh and Ongerup Farm Supplies Last Saturday the finals were held to determine who would be the King Scrounger. After the first round, the rink winners were Maurice O Neill, George Johnson and Don Sclater, so they played off in the final. Maurice was the eventual winner, with George the runner up. Congratulations Maurice. George was grateful to be no longer playing to a 36 handicap (the maximum handicap possible). The Tail Enders from the first round also played off with David Nield being the Best of the Tail Enders. Special mention was made of those three players who had managed to score the maximum 6 points from an end. Well done Ashley, George and Mick. Bowls in the ditch counted against a player s score and Don achieved the highest number with 6 bowls in the ditch. The day was well run (thanks Mick), the weather was perfect for bowls (no wind, so no one could complain that the wind took their bowl) and it concluded with a steak and salad dinner. Thanks to everyone who has competed in the Friday night competition. The club closing day will be Sunday 10 th April
