1 R Country Golfer Golfer SIGNATURE COURSE VOL 20 ISSUE 12 December, Dear Member, With the temperature dipping to as low as 1.3 degrees, December turned out to be the most arctic month so far. The morning fog was a mood swinger as the tee offs got delayed. The golfers waited patiently for the fog to subside and the game to go on. Shaun and his team are reposed as the course is in pristine condition despite the extreme weather. Off the course, the whirlpool of activities kept all members engaged. The festival décor by the Housekeeping team set the mood to celebration mode. The Christmas week was planned to kick off with the Hero Christmas Cup followed by the most awaited Christmas Carnival. The Carnival was themed 'Santa s Toyland', and offered captivating activities for children of all age groups. Santa was the centre of attraction as children waited eagerly for their turn to get the gifts on stage. Hero Christmas Cup was played on the 25th and was oversubscribed and well enjoyed by members. I would like to thank Hero MotoCorp for their support for this tournament. New Year celebration ended the month on a cheerful note. The theme 'A Nite in Paris', was well appreciated and enjoyed by all. The dance performances by the artists from overseas tuned all the members to the dancing beat. Post this, DJ Panash took to the stage and played rocking numbers till midnight. On behalf of the senior management and all my colleagues, I would like to wish you a Very Happy New Year. This victorious moment was witnessed by his co-players Navnit Nakra, Amit Arora and Priyajit Ghosh.

3 Mixed Match Play 2018 Round 1 The DLF Mixed Match Play 2018 teed off on the 3rd with 8 teams competing in two pools - Upper Half and Lower Half. In the Quarter finals from the Upper Half team - Sanjiv Khanna and Tanisha Kalyan qualified for the Semi-finals by edging over team Jang Wan Ryu and Soomin Choi. Second team- Aman Sawhney and Young Mi Park moved to Semi-finals by defeating Atul and Namrata Dhir. In the Lower Half, 1st team - Rahul Aggarwal and Mukta Malhotra ousted Anuj Khanna and Anita Khanna on the 19th Hole after a sudden death playoff. The 2nd team of Vicky and Rabina Chadha had an exciting win over Mayur Rastogi and Anuradha Chadha thereby claiming their position in the Semifinals. 4 Christmas Carnival Santa s Workshop, this Christmas, was a big hit amongst all members who attended the Carnival. The grand canopy and beautiful table setting, all in red and white, created the perfect mood for Christmas. Kids had a gala time with Santa, who gave out gifts to all. While the little ones enjoyed the activity area under the sun, their families indulged in an elaborate buffet. Our little singers and dancers from Scottish High School entertained the whole gathering with their delightful performance.

5 One for the album Engrossed children at Santa's Workshop Hero Christmas Cup Christmas week celebrations culminated with the Hero Christmas Cup on the 25th. Celebrating Christmas with a round of Golf was appreciated a lot! Despite the chilling weather over 100 golfers gathered to compete for the winner's title. The game was played over 18 holes on Modified Stableford Scoring system. Besides this, there were many individual skill competitions. Rishi Narain won the Longest Drive in the Men s Category and Nitin Mahajan won the Straightest Drive. In Men's Category (0-14) Jatin Sandhu won by 36 points and in Sunil Mehra sealed the winning position with 33 points. In Ladies Category Yuki Hirama won by 35 points. 7 BMW Night Drives The final round of BMW Night Drives was held on the 26th which was fully subscribed by enthusiastic golfers. The final round of the season was played on Modified Stableford with ¾ handicap where eagle gets 4 points, birdie gets 3 points, par gets 2 points and bogey gets 1 point. The evening culminated with a fabulous Gala Dinner hosted by BMW at the Deck with the award ceremony for the previous weeks as well. For 5th December the winning title was taken by Himashu Puri and Sunit Mathur took the runner-up position. Closest-to-Pin on Hole No. 3 was won by Raja Inder Bhalla - 23 while the Straight Drive (Hole No. 5) was won by Deepa Gulati - 1.For 12th December the winning title was taken by Biswajit Pandey and Ranvir Saini with the runner-up position. Closest-to-Pin (Hole No. 3) was won by Col. Surendra Baliwal - 9. And Straight Drive (Hole No. 5) was won by Sahil Tagra - On line. For 19th December the winning title went to Kunal Jaidka and the runner-up position was taken by Ravi Chopra. 8 How To Calculate Handicap HOW TO CALCULATE HANDICAP The steps for calculating a Course Handicap are as explained below :- 1. Convert gross scores to Adjusted Gross Scores 2 Calculate Handicap Differential for each score 3. Select lowest Handicap Differentials 4. Average lowest Handicap Differentials 5. Multiply the average Handicap Differential by 96% 6. Arrive at Handicap Index by truncating - deleting - the number(s) to the right of tenths 7. Calculate Course Handicap Now we will explain step 1 : Convert Original Gross Scores to Adjusted Gross Scores To arrive at an Adjusted Gross Score, you use the USGA's Equitable Stroke Control (ESC). ESC is used to downwardly adjust individual hole scores for handicapping purposes in order to create handicaps that better represent a golfer's playing ability. ESC imposes a maximum number of strokes that can be entered for any given hole. This maximum is based on the golfer's Course Handicap and is obtained from the table shown below. Course Handicap Maximum Score 9 or less double bogey 10 through through through and above 10 An example of a downward adjustment may be helpful. Let's say that a player with a Course Handicap of 18 scores a nine on one of the holes. His nine would be downwardly adjusted to a seven because players with handicaps in the 10 to 19 range are allowed a maximum score of seven on any given hole. Once you make adjustments, if necessary, to all eighteen holes, the sum of these 18 holes is the Adjusted Gross Score. Step 2: Calculate Handicap Differentials for Each Score The second step in computing a Handicap Index is to compute a Handicap Differential for each score that is to be considered in the Handicap Index calculation. The Handicap Differential is computed using the following formula: Handicap Differential = (Adjusted Gross Score - Course Rating) X 113 Slope Rating (The Course Rating is what the USGA deems a scratch golfer would score on a course under normal playing conditions. A Slope Rating of 113 is for a course of standard difficulty according to the USGA.) Round the Handicap Differential to the nearest tenth (i.e., 17.25=17.3, 11.34=11.3, etc.). Step 3: Select Best, or Lowest, Handicap Differentials The third step in calculating your Handicap Index is to select the lowest Handicap Differentials. The following table is used when selecting the best, or lowest, Handicap Differentials. If more than 20 scores have been entered, the 10 best differentials of the 20 most recent scores are used for the calculation. Number of Handicap Differentials Available Differentials Used 5 or 6 Lowest 1 7 or 8 Lowest 2 9 or 10 Lowest 3 11 or 12 Lowest 4 13 or 14 Lowest 5 15 or 16 Lowest 6 17 Lowest 7 18 Lowest 8 19 Lowest 9 20 Lowest 10 The USGA does not calculate a handicap until five scores have been recorded. Step 4: Calculate the Average of the Lowest Handicap Differentials If there are 10 Handicap Differentials (scores) available, calculate the average for the lowest, or best, 3 Handicap Differentials. If there are 15 Handicap Differentials (scores) available, calculate the average for the lowest, or best, 6 Handicap Differentials. Once a player has at least 20 scores, always use the 10 best, or lowest, Handicap Differentials from the most recent 20 scores. Step 5: Multiply Average of Handicap Differentials by 0.96 or 96% The fifth step in calculating the Handicap Index is to compute the net Handicap Differential average. For the USGA the percentage by which the Handicap Differential averages are multiplied is 96%. Step 6: Truncate, or Delete, Numbers to the Right of Tenths Step six in computing the Handicap Index, is to delete the digits after the tenths for the number derived in Step 5. Do NOT round off to the nearest tenths place. As established by the USGA, the default maximum Handicap Index on an 18-hole course is 36.4 for males and 40.4 for females. On a nine-hole course the default maximum Handicap Index is 18.2 for males and 20.2 for females. The maximum ceiling can be increased. Example of a Handicap Index Calculation The following is an example of how the Handicap Index is calculated using the USGA System. This example assumes only 14 scores have been posted for this golfer. Sum of the lowest five Handicap Differentials: 68.7 Average of lowest Handicap Differentials (68.7 divided by 5): Handicap Differential Average multiplied by 96%: Truncate (delete) digits after tenths place: 13.1 Handicap Index: 13.1 Step 7: Calculate Course Handicap The final step is to calculate a Course Handicap. A Course Handicap is the number of strokes a player receives on each particular course. Determine a course handicap by multiplying the Handicap Index by the Slope Rating (from the course and tee you choose) and dividing by 113 (standard difficulty rating). Round the result to the nearest whole number. Course Handicap = Index x (Slope Rating of Tee on Course / 113) Example of a Course Handicap Calculation The following assumes an index of 12.5 and a Home course slope of 120. Course Handicap = 12.5 x 120 / 113

9 From our Superintendent s Quill The over seeding of the courses has been successfully completed and positive results have been achieved with a consistent strike on all the playing surfaces. Greens are in good condition and we are expecting them to play well throughout the winter months. The course maintenance team will be focusing on managing the cool season turf through the winter months to provide quality playing conditions for the members and guests. The perennial ryegrass spp. displays positive aesthetic and playability characteristics, however, this species has considerably low wear and recuperative potential which directly relates to poor recovery from foot traffic and divot recovery is nil. With this in mind it is essential to manage foot and vehicular traffic through the winter months. Management of the wear and tear on the tees will be implemented with all the tees being utilized to help distribute the foot traffic as well as the wear to the fairway landing areas. The tee and green walk on areas will also be managed to ensure the wear is spread as much as possible. If these areas receive continual wear and tear the playing conditions will decline. Shaun Satterly Whilst the course maintenance team will be implementing these practices to help ensure quality conditions throughout the winter, it is essential that we have the support of the members and guests by following the measures that are implemented. 10 Academy News DLF GOLF ACADEMY This Month's Achievers Kartik Sharma lifts Western Amateur Championship trophy Kartik Sharma, won the Indian Golf Union (IGU) Western India Amateur Golf Championship 2018, at the Poona Golf Course. Kartik opened his campaign with a commanding six under 65 in the first round. He stayed on course to card a 12-under par (65, 70, 67, 70) at the Poona Golf Club. He continued to perform in the next event at Gujarat Amateur Championship winning by 4 strokes in challenging windy conditions with a total score of 5 over par at the Kalhar Blues & Greens Golf Club His back to back wins earned him third position on the IGU National Amateur ranking. Kartik Singh Kartik Singh won the US KIDS World Junior Championship, conducted at the Tanjong Puteri Golf Resort, Malaysia from 19th - 21st, Kartik won in the Boys B category. The tournament had some of the best junior golfers from across the globe including Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Africa, Australia, USA, Canada, New Zealand, etc. He put up 3 consecutive rounds of 34, 39 and 36 to win with a comfortable margin of four strokes over his closest rival from Thailand. Vardaan Shukla Vardaan Shukla finished runner-up in the Shiv Kapur Junior Golf Championship held at the Delhi Golf Club. Hitaashee Bakshi Jahanvi Bakshi This sister duo from the DLF Golf Excellence Program has ended the season on a high note with Jahanvi Bakshi 1st and Hitaashee Bakshi 3rd on the IGU Amateur Calendar Year Order of Merit.
