8 Hours of Play for Junior Members Monday to Friday (excluding Tuesday Medal days) - no play between and unless accompanied by an Adult Member. On occasions, Junior Team Matches may be scheduled within these times. Tuesday Medal days - no play between British Summer time Saturday - no play until after Sunday - no play until after and no play between and unless accompanied by an Adult Member or unless playing in a Junior Medal. At all other times Saturday - no play until Sunday - no play until Notwithstanding the above a male Junior Member with a playing handicap of 9 or under may play in Gents competitions for handicap purposes only but can participate in the Club Championship and John M. Gardner competitions. During the course of the season there may be Team Matches or Committee fixtures which may cause the 1 st tee to be reserved at a time when Junior Members would normally expect to play. Referral to the Fixture Dairy and the Information Line will help ensure that Junior Members are aware of any arrangements impacting on their regular playing times. 6

10 DRESS CODE Course On course dress should be neat and tidy and the following are not permitted: Shell suits, denims, jeans, collarless T-shirts, football-style or non-tailored shorts, anoraks, bomber jackets, jogging / track / leisure suits. Shirts should be tucked in to trousers or shorts at all times. Juniors are permitted to wear training shoes otherwise golf shoes must be worn. Heavy shoes or boots are not permitted. Clubhouse Smart and casual is the norm. We avoid: damaged or ill fitting denims, football colours, rugby tops, shell suits and track suits. Smart denims are permitted Shirts should be tucked in to trousers at all times. Not permitted in lounges golf shoes, waterproof clothing, hats or caps, holdalls or grips. Car Park During Clubhouse hours, the changing of clothing or golf shoes is not permitted in the Car Park. 8

11 VISITORS A person may not be introduced as a visitor more than SIX TIMES in any one calendar year whether by the same member or different members. The arrangements for introducing visitors are detailed in Rule 16 (Junior Members must also make reference to Rule 16.9). The current fee payable during the summer for visitors introduced by Members has been fixed at per round. The fee for two visitors will be 20 and for three visitors 24. The fee for Junior visitors will be 50% of the fee payable. The current fee payable during the winter for visitors introduced by Members has been fixed at 6.00, per round. The fee for two visitors will be 10 and for three visitors 12. The fee for Junior visitors will be 50% of the fee payable. All fees must be paid before play commences. Visitor tickets must be clearly displayed on the visitor s golf bag. 9

12 GENERAL REGULATIONS Members are recommended to purchase a copy of the current Standard Scratch Score and Handicap Scheme. Competitions Members are ineligible to play in competitions until subscriptions have been paid. Names must be entered on the Online Booking System before play is commenced. Members competing under the arrangements for the Dawn Patrol are responsible for entering their names on the Entry Sheet/Computer upon conclusion of the round. Failure to comply with this instruction will lead to disqualification. In the case of Monthly Medals, and in other competitions when considered expedient, the Committee will have the right to control commencement of play by BALLOT. Care on the Course Greenstaff staff should have priority at all times. That priority should take only a few minutes to be exacted and then golfers can proceed with their round. Members have a duty of care unto themselves and others when on the course. Members are expected to exercise caution, particularly during inclement weather, as ground conditions may become hazardous. Where provided, on course instructions must be followed. Golfers must give way to vehicles and pedestrians using the access road and the road alongside the 9 th and 10 th Fairways... Membership Tags Membership tags must be clearly displayed on Members golf bags. 10

13 Care of the Course 1. REPLACE DIVOTS Remember that any turf removed on the course, except hazards, the teeing ground and putting green should be replaced and pressed. 2. PITCHMARKS A mark made by a ball landing on the green should be repaired using a small pitchfork. If you notice any more pitchmarks, please repair them 3. TROLLIES, CARTS Pull trollies, electric trollies and powercarts should always be kept away from the perimeters of tees and greens and as delineated by white or green lines. 4. PRACTICE SWINGS Avoid taking divots when taking practice swings on the course, especially on tees. 5. BUNKERS Having played a shot from a bunker, a player should rake the bunker and leave the rake placed in the centre of the bunker, facing the hole, with the rake handle resting on the edge of the bunker. 6. PACE OF PLAY Always consider other golfers on the course, especially the players directly behind you when searching for a ball. If it becomes apparent the ball will not be easily found, signal to the group behind to play through. (Members should familiarise themselves with the Pace of Play indicator requirements provided inside the back pages of the diary). 7. SAFETY ON THE COURSE Prior to playing a stroke or making a swing, every player should ensure that no one is standing close by or in a position to be hit by the club, the ball or any stones, pebbles, twigs, or the like which may be moved by the stroke or swing. Golfers must give way to vehicles and pedestrians using the access road and the road alongside the 9 th and 10 th Fairways. 8. CONSIDERATION FOR OTHER PLAYERS The player who has the honour should be allowed to play before his opponent or fellow competitors. No one should move, talk or stand close to or directly behind the ball or the hole when a player is addressing the ball or making a stroke. No player should play until the players in front are out of range. 9. PRIORITY ON THE COURSE In the absence of special rules, two-ball matches should have precedence over and be entitled to pass any three-ball or four-ball match, which should invite them through. Any match playing a whole round is entitled to pass a match playing a shorter round. 10. DAMAGE TO GREENS FLAGSTICKS, BAGS ETC Players should ensure that, when putting down bags or the flagstick, no damage is done to the putting green and that neither they nor their caddies damage the hole by standing close to it in handling the flagstick or in removing the ball from the hole. The Flagstick should be properly replaced in the hole before the player leaves the putting green. Players should not lean on their putters, particularly when removing the ball from the hole. 11. FAIRWAY PROTECTION SCHEME The use of mats from closely mown areas i.e. fairways & semi-rough is mandatory from November until March. Mats should be purchased from the bar staff. The timing and the scope of the scheme may be amended as deemed necessary by the Head Greenkeeper. 11

15 S.G.U. COMPETITIONS Monthly Medals Last Saturday in each month, unless otherwise stated. The winner of the Scratch competition and the winners in each Class every month will qualify for the Medal Finals which will be played on the date of the September Monthly Medal. In the event of no play on the pre-arranged date then the Medal will normally be re-scheduled to be played the following Saturday. Additional Medal Second Saturday in each month, unless otherwise stated. In the event of no play on the pre-arranged date then the Medal will be cancelled. Winter competitions (November - March) shall be individual stableford non-counter medals, better ball pairs, and team texas scramble competitions. Second and Fourth Tuesday during summer months, (April to October inclusive), unless otherwise stated. In the event of no play on the pre-arranged date then the Medal will be cancelled. Once a month a 9 hole Medal option will be available. Adair Quaich The best 18 hole Scratch score on the final round of the John M. Gardner Stroke Play Championship provided he is not the winner of the J.M. Gardner Trophy. Allander Quaich Handicap competition for current Committee Members played for during the Vice-Captain s Cup outing. Australian Trophy Greensome Stroke competition. Breckenridge Trophy Handicap Stableford competition. Britannia Trophy Winter League Foursomes competition. See Notice Board for details. Carrick Cross The lowest combined Scratch score returned in the Spring and Autumn Meetings. 13

Clark Snr Memorial Handicap Knockout Competition The lowest 8 combined Nett scores, excluding those players who have qualified for the Club Championship, will qualify for the knockout stages on the same basis as outlined in the qualifying regulations for the Club Championship. Ties will be played during week commencing Sunday 16 June. An entry sheet will be posted on the touch screen on qualifying Medal days. Members wishing to compete must enter the competition at this time. W.D. Dixon Trophy The lowest combined Nett score returned in the Spring and Autumn Meetings. Dumgoyne Rose Bowl Mixed Foursomes Handicap Match Play competition. Rules of the competition are that Gents must drive at the 1st hole and that the Gents stroke index will be applicable. Jim Dunan New Members Trophy Handicap Stroke Play competition for new Members (being Members of less than two years standing) played for during Spring Meeting. Douglas Duncan Trophy Handicap Singles Match Play competition, open to Members retired from full time business and aged 60 years and over. John M. Gardner Stroke Play Championship The JM Gardner trophy will be awarded to the lowest combined 36 hole scratch score played between the August Monthly Medal on Saturday 17 August and the final on Sunday 25 August. The lowest 24 players from the August Monthly Medal shall qualify for the second round. The second round shall be played from the Black Tee course. H.L.I. Cup The 16 lowest Nett scores from all classes in the Spring Meeting will qualify for the knockout stages. In the event of a tie for 16th place, see page 18 for method of count-back. 14

17 Howat Salver Mixed Foursomes Stableford competition played off half combined handicaps. Rules of the competition are that Gents must drive at the 1st hole, and that the Gents stroke index will be applicable. Laighpark Trophy Handicap Fourball Match Play competition with no restriction on handicap partnerships. Bonnie Leezie Lindsay Trophy Handicap Fourball Match Play competition, open to Members retired from full time employment and aged 60 years and over. Milngavie Cup Handicap Singles Match Play competition. Milngavie Championship Cup Entry shall be via the touch screen on qualifying Medal days. Members wishing to compete must enter the competition at this time. The current holder and the lowest 15 combined Scratch scores from any two of the competitions played on 11 May, 18 May, 25 May and 1 June will qualify for the knockout stages. In the event of only two of these competitions being played within the time frame then both will count and if only one is played it will count. In the event of a tie for 15th place, the count-back method listed below. The draw will be made as soon as possible after 3 June. Any withdrawal should be made to the Match and Handicap Convener by 12 noon on Wednesday 12 June. Any player withdrawing in this way will be replaced from the reserve list and a redraw will take place. In the event of subsequent withdrawals no redraw will be made and the opponent will receive a walkover. Ties to be played as follows:- First Round Sunday 16 June (Monday 17 June if play is impossible due to bad weather) Quarter Finals Wednesday 19 June (Thursday 20 June if play is impossible due to bad weather) Semi Finals Friday 21 June (Saturday 22 June if play is impossible due to bad weather) Final 36 holes Sunday 23 June. 15

Morley Memorial Handicap Stroke Play Championship The lowest 16 combined Nett scores and those tying for the 16th place from any two of the following three rounds 29 June, 13 July and 20 July will qualify to play the final 18 holes on Sunday 11 August. Should only two qualifying rounds be played then both will count, if only one is played within the time frame it will count. Only the final 18 holes will count for the Championship. Mugdock Quaich Handicap Foursomes Match Play competition. Teams to consist of one player with a handicap of 14 or under and one player with a handicap of 15 or over. Past Captain s Cup One Stableford round for Past Captains who are still Members of the Club. Rider Cup Texas Scramble competition played over the Black Tee course. Teams of four players with a minimum combined handicap of 30. A rule of the competition is a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 drives per player. 6 s Competition Teams of 3 players. One best Nett score at holes 1 6, two best Nett scores at holes 7 12 and all three Nett scores at holes to count. R. L. Taylor Trophy Stroke Play competition restricted to past and present Committee members. Thistle Award Best Nett aggregate from 8 out of 10 medal rounds during April to September. 20 Count Back System Ties in all Medal competitions shall be decided on the day of play as follows: In 18 hole competitions: The best last nine, last six, last three, last hole. In 36 hole competitions: The best last round, last nine, last six, last three, last hole. Club Championship Qualifying Rounds: In the event of a tie for knockout stages, the player with the lowest qualifying round goes through. If two or more players are still tied, normal countback procedures apply, using each players lowest qualifying round. In the event of the foregoing not producing a result, the Committee shall have the power to make a ruling. Ties in other competitions must be decided by either sudden death or by a play-off within the time limits specified, as agreed by the competitors. Finals must be decided by sudden death. Challenge Dates for Competitions First name(s) is /are the challengers. Three dates MUST be provided, these dates spread over a minimum of ten days, one of which must be a Saturday or Sunday. Members entering any competition are invited to make use of the book behind the bar, to register Mobile Phone numbers, addresses and any other pertinent contact details. Common sense and good etiquette suggests that, if those being challenged are aware of restrictions to their availability to play the tie within the timetable provided, they should make contact with the challenger at the earliest opportunity to ensure that the tie can be contested within the dates stated. The Committee expect that, having entered a competition, Members will make every effort to play ties and that extensions to the scheduled dates will only be granted if all parties are in agreement that every effort was made to play the tie within the required timetable. 18

23 LADIES COMPETITIONS Monthly Medal First Sunday of each month (main day) and the Wednesday preceding the first Sunday of each month (alternative day) from March to October. The four extra Medals are combined with the Spring and Autumn Meetings, the first round of the Eclectic Competition and the B. Mitchell Trophy. 9 hole Medals take place from April September. Australian Scramble Teams of 3. All players drive then one of the drives is chosen for the next shot. The player whose drive is chosen does not play the next shot then the player whose second shot is chosen does not play the following shot. This format continues for the rest of the hole. Therefore, apart from drives, only 2 players hit the following shots. Autumn Meeting Handicap Stroke Play competition. Balcomie Gamble Played in teams of 3 as a Handicap Stroke Play competition. The Nett score of one player will count at each hole and each player will contribute 6 scores in the round. The player whose score will count at a hole must be identified before any member of the team tees off at the next hole. Teams pre-drawn. B. Mitchell Trophy Handicap Stroke competition Braid Salver The lowest combined nett score returned in the two rounds of the Eclectic Competition by Silver Division players. Britannia Salvers Lowest nett score in each of the Silver and Bronze Divisions on Gala Day 21

24 Byiers Plate ** Players knocked out in the first or preliminary round of the Ladies Cup will automatically be entered into the Plate Competition. Children 1st 3-ball-better-ball A Charity competition played in teams of 3 (nominal entry fee). Stroke Play handicap competition where the best Nett score from the team at each hole is recorded. Teams pre drawn. Committee Trophy Stableford competition. Open to ladies involved in assisting with Committee work at the Club. Coronation Foursomes Foursomes format (alternate drives). Players arrange own playing times on allocated day. (nominal entry fee). Diamond Fourball Team of 2, played as a better ball competition. Aim to have one player aged over 65 years of age and one under. Try to balance the ages of teams. Teams pre-drawn. Dumgoyne Rose Bowl ** Mixed Foursomes Handicap Match Play competition. Rules of the competition are that Gents must drive at the 1st hole and that the Gents stroke index will be applicable. Eclectic Two Stroke Play rounds where the best Nett score at each hole is calculated. Handicap at the beginning of the competition is used to calculate the winner. Flag Competition Handicap Stroke Play competition. Each player starts with an allocation of strokes (course SSS plus handicap) and then plays the course until the stroke allocation runs out a flag is placed at this spot on the course. 4-club Competition Handicap Stroke Play competition using three clubs and a putter. Non-qualifying competition for handicap purposes. 22

25 Gala Day. Stableford competition. For players without a handicap there is a 7 hole competition which tees-off after the main competition. (Pre-drawn) Howat Salver Mixed Foursomes Stableford competition played off half combined handicaps. Rules of the competition are that Gents must drive at the 1st hole and that the Gents stroke index will be applicable. Jane A. Brash Trophy Handicap Stroke Play competition. Ladies Championship Cups Milngavie Cup The seven lowest Scratch aggregates from any two of the four qualifying rounds, plus the current holder, qualify for the knockout stages. Bronze Rosebowl ** The four lowest Scratch aggregates in the Bronze Division, from any two of the four qualifying rounds, qualify for the knock-out stages.. Ladies Cup ** Singles Handicap Match Play competition. Milngavie Waltz Teams of 3. For the first hole, only one score is counted, for the second two scores and for the third, three scores. For the fourth hole, it is back to one score, fifth, two scores, the sixth, three scores and so on. Full Handicap. McCartney Quaich ** Fourball Better Ball Match Play competition. 23

26 McDonald Trophy The best score returned by a member over 70 years of age. The format will alternate from year to year. Mulligans Choice Handicap stroke play competition where a player is allowed 4 mulligans over the 18 holes. (2 can be taken on the first nine and 2 on the second nine). If a player decides not to use their mulligans the number of unused mulligans will be taken off the nett score at the end of the round. Non qualifying competition for handicap purposes. Declare you are taking a mulligan immediately after playing the shot that you want to take again. You cannot, for example, hit a ball, discover its lost and then go back and play the shot again. Par Competition Handicap match play against the course. Scoring as in match play with +1 if the nett score is better than par, 0 if nett par is scored and -1 if worse than par. The player with the most holes up against par after 18 holes is the winner. Philips Trophy The lowest combined Nett score returned in the Spring and Autumn Meetings Red Cross Competition Ongoing Charity Stroke Play competition played in the summer months. The scores from the first card will be posted on the Notice Board (nominal entry fee). Scores at holes may be changed at any time at a cost of 20p per hole. There is no limit on the number of scores changed or the number of times each score is changed. Handicap at the beginning of the competition is used to calculate the winner. Russell Plate The lowest combined Nett score returned in the two rounds of the Eclectic Competition by Bronze Division players. 24

27 77 Salver Team of 2 played as a Greensome Stroke Play competition. Teams are pre-drawn. Spring Meeting Handicap Stroke Play competition. Teggart Rosebowl The lowest 16 combined Nett scores and those tying for 16th place from Silver and Bronze players in any two of the following competitions April Medal, May Medal, and June Medal will qualify to play in the final 18 holes. Should only two qualifying rounds be played, then both will count. If only one qualifying round is played than it will count. Only the final 18 holes will count for the Rosebowl. Telfer Trophy Strokeplay Championship This Scratch competition is open to all Ladies. The lowest 8 combined Scratch scores and those tying for 8th place from any two of the following rounds: June Medal, July Medal and August Medal will qualify to play in the final 18 holes. Only the final 18 holes will count for the Championship. 3-Ball Texas Scramble (Ballot for Partners) Six drives from each player must be selected. All players play from the position where the selected drive came to rest and thereafter from the position of the best second shot and so on until a ball is holed. Teams pre-drawn. Veterans Cup The lowest Nett score returned by a Member over 60 years of age on Gala Day. The Vicki MacAlister Quaich The lowest Scratch score recorded in competition at Milngavie during the season. 25

28 Winter Eclectic Ongoing eclectic competition played over 12 holes in the winter months. Handicap at the beginning of the competition is used to calculate the winner. 54 THE MILNGAVIE GOLF CLUB RULES 1. NAME OF THE CLUB The Club shall be called The Milngavie Golf Club. 2. MEMBERSHIP 2.1. The Membership shall consist of Honorary, Ordinary, Life, Senior, Associate, Youth, Junior, Country, 5 day, Flexible, House, Restricted, Corporate and Temporary. The number of Members in each of these categories shall at the discretion of the General Committee or until otherwise resolved by the Voting Members in General Meeting In these Rules and Bye-Laws, Ordinary, Life- Playing and Youth Members shall be known as Voting Members. 3. HONORARY PRESIDENT AND VICE-PRESIDENT(S) One or more Honorary Presidents and one or more Honorary Vice- Presidents may be elected at the Annual General Meeting for the ensuing year, and be eligible for re-election. They shall not by virtue of such offices have any right or interest in the property of the Club and shall have no vote in the management of the Club s affairs but shall be allowed to participate in discussions at the General Meetings of the Club. 4. MANAGEMENT 4.1 The management of the Club shall be vested in the Committee which shall consist of the Captain, Vice-Captain, Immediate Past Captain ex-officio, Finance Convener and seven other Members five Committee Members to form a quorum. All members of the Committee shall be Voting Members of the Club. 4.2 The Captain, Vice-Captain and Finance Convener shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting and shall hold office for one year, but shall be eligible for re-election to the said offices or to the Committee. The Immediate Past Captain shall ex-officio be a Member of the Committee, shall retire at the end of one year, but shall be eligible for re-election to the Committee Members of the Committee, exclusive of the Captain, Vice-Captain, Immediate Past Captain and Finance Convener shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting for three years. Two of the seven other members shall retire annually by rotation, but shall be eligible for re-election to the Committee The Committee shall appoint a Secretary and Treasurer, who may or may not be one and the same person and who may or may not be a Member of the Club, on such terms and conditions of employment as the Committee sees fit. The remuneration payable to the Secretary and Treasurer shall be determined by the Committee. The Secretary and Treasurer shall not by virtue of such offices have any right or interest in the Club and shall have no vote in the management of the Club s affairs The Committee shall appoint annually an Independent Accountant to examine and review the Club s books and accounts and report to the Members, but such Independent Accountant shall hold no other office concurrently in the Club nor be connected directly or indirectly with ant Member. 52

55 4.6. The Committee shall have the power to fill any vacancies occurring in its number in the course of the year, and any Member so elected shall hold office until the next Annual General Meeting when the vacancy shall be filled Any vacancy on the Committee caused by the re-election of a Member who has not served three years, to be Captain or Vice-Captain shall be filled at the Annual General Meeting. Members elected to complete an unexpired term shall be eligible for re-election Nominations of Members for election to the Committee at the Annual General Meeting shall be sent to the Secretary, signed by at least two Voting Members, not later than 31 December, posted on the Notice Board within the Clubhouse when received and intimated in the circular calling the Annual General Meeting The election of Members to the Committee for three years, and for unexpired terms of service caused through vacancies, shall take place at the Annual General Meeting, when a vote, if necessary, shall be taken by ballot and the result thereafter immediately declared. Nominees gaining the most votes shall be elected. Ties decided by another vote taken in the same manner The Committee shall have all powers necessary for the conduct of the affairs of the Club and, all Rules and Bye-Laws made, or orders given by the Committee, shall be binding on every Member until set aside by a General Meeting of the Club The Committee shall have the power to revise the Club s policy documents on (a) Child and Adult Protection; (b) the use of New Media; and (c) Data Protection, as deemed necessary and will be responsible for ensuring that the principles outlined within the policy documents are adhered to at all times The use of New Media and Personal Data shall only be used in accordance with the New Media Policy and the Data Protection Policy The Club logo is the property of the Club and any use of the Club logo shall be as authorised by the Committee Fundamental alterations to the Course, involving a change in the layout, major alterations to the Clubhouse, or the sale or disposal of the property of the Club shall require the approval of the Voting Members in General Meeting. In addition there shall be a Course Management Plan, the policies and practices of which shall only be amended by the Voting Members in General Meeting. All other alterations and improvements to the Course, such as re-laying and featuring of the greens or re-routing of the Course for competitions or during winter months, and alterations to the existing Clubhouse, shall be in the absolute discretion of the Committee The Committee may restrict and regulate the conditions of play for all Members The Committee shall, at least once in each month, hold a Meeting for the dispatch of all competent business, but shall have the option of not holding a Meeting during the months of July and August No Member of Committee, and no Manager or employee of the Club, shall in a private capacity, either directly or indirectly enter into any pecuniary contract or transaction with the Club for work, services, or supply of goods, unless such contract or transaction, has been the subject of a competitive tendering process and has been approved by the Management Committee. Any such contract or transaction shall be reported in the annual statement of the Club s affairs 53

56 4.17. The Committee may appoint a Greens, Match and Handicap, House and other Sub-Committee. Other Members of the Club shall be eligible for appointment to these Sub-Committees. The Committee shall appoint the Conveners, and determine the powers of all Sub- Committees All Meetings of Committee or Sub-Committee shall be called by circular, and, except in the case of an Emergency Meeting, at least three days notice must be given The Captain and Vice-Captain shall be appointed Members of all Sub-Committees At all Meetings of the Club or of the Committee, the Captain, or in his/her absence, the Vice-Captain, shall take the chair, failing both of these the Meeting shall elect a Chairperson. At any Sub- Committee Meeting the Convener shall take the Chair The Chairperson shall have a deliberative and, in cases of equality, a casting vote at all Meetings of the Club, the Committee or Sub- Committees The Secretary shall keep full and correct Minutes of all proceedings at Meetings of the Club and the Committee. The Treasurer shall receive and disburse all monies due to and by the Club and keep correct accounts and books showing the financial affairs and intromissions of the Club, and shall forward a statement thereof, duly examined and reviewed by the Club s independent Accountant and made up to 30 November annually to every Voting Member not less than six days before the date of the Annual General Meeting All Club funds shall be kept in the name of the Club with a Joint Stock Bank or on Deposit as fixed by the Committee. Cheques or withdrawals up to the value of 1000 shall be signed by any one of the Captain, Vice-Captain or the Treasurer. Amounts in excess of 1000 will require the signature of any two of the before mentioned signatories The Committee shall have the power at any time and from time to time to borrow from any Member or Members and/or from any Bank or others, such sum or sums and on such terms and conditions as may be determined by a two-thirds majority of Voting Members at any General Meeting and that with or without security all as may be determined at such General Meeting. The Committee shall, however, have power to borrow from a Joint Stock Bank for the normal day to day running of the Club s affairs an amount not exceeding 10, All revenue from Restricted Membership, entry fees, gaming machines and donations shall be kept in a Development account and shall only be available to meet extraordinary or special capital expenditure of the Club. It shall not be available to meet normal running expenses of the Club unless authorised by the Voting Members in General Meeting. 5. PROPERTY The heritable property of the Club shall be vested in the Captain, Vice-Captain, Secretary and Treasurer thereof for the time being, and their successors in office as Trustees for the Club, and all title deeds or other documents relating to the Club s affairs, shall be taken in such names and such Trustees shall be empowered to grant all such security deeds requiring to be granted to the creditors from whom money is borrowed in virtue of Rule The property, effects and monies of the Club shall belong to the Voting 54

57 Members during Membership equally, but the rights and interest of every Member shall be personal and limited to himself/herself and shall not be assignable or arrestable, or pass to his/her executors or representatives. 6. MEETINGS OF THE CLUB General Information 6.1. All Meetings of the Club shall be called by circular to the Voting Members of the Club giving at least six days notice and stating the business to be considered At all Meetings of the Club, twenty Voting Members shall form a quorum. Annual General Meeting 6.3. The Annual General Meeting of the Club shall be held during the month of February on a date fixed by the Committee, when the Office-Bearers, and new Members of the Committee shall be elected, a fully examined and reviewed statement of the Club s affairs for the past financial year submitted to the Meeting and any other competent business transacted Any motions or proposals by Voting Members for consideration at the Annual General Meeting shall be sent to the Secretary, signed by at least two Voting Members, not later than 31 December and intimated in the Notice calling the Annual General Meeting. Special General Meetings 6.5 The Committee shall have power to call Special General Meetings of the Club, and shall be bound to call such a Meeting within one month on receiving a written requisition stating the business and signed by at least twenty voting Members. 7. LEVY The Club shall in General Meeting have the right to raise a levy on all Members. 8. ADMISSION OF NEW MEMBERS 8.1 The name and address of every Candidate for admission as a Member of the Club shall be entered on the form(s) prescribed by the Committee and attested by the signature of the Proposer and Seconder, to whom the candidate and their suitability for Membership must be personally known and specified in a required testimonial Where applications are received without being Proposed or Seconded, the applicant will, in the first instance, be invited for interview with the Immediate Past Captain and one other Committee member All applications for Membership shall be considered by any two of the following:- Captain, Vice Captain and a Convener on behalf of the Committee. If one of the aforementioned does not support the application, then the election of the candidate shall be submitted to the Committee and shall be by ballot, one adverse vote in three to exclude If a Waiting List is in operation the candidate s name will be placed on this list for subsequent consideration As Membership vacancies occur, the names of candidates for consideration for Membership shall be displayed on the Notice Boards for a period of fourteen days. 55

58 8.6. Any former Member of the Club, who wishes to re-apply for admission, may be admitted on such terms and conditions as the Committee see fit Subject to Rule 11.33, no candidate shall be eligible for election as an Ordinary Member until they have attained the age of eighteen years No person who has been rejected by the Committee shall again be eligible as a candidate until the lapse of one year. 8.9 A new Member shall not be entitled to the privileges of the Club until their entrance fee and subscription or due parts thereof shall have been paid. On such payment the Secretary shall furnish the new Member with a copy of the Rules and Bye-Laws of the Club. 9. ENTRY FEE 9.1. The entry fee, if any, for all categories shall be fixed at the discretion of the Committee or until otherwise resolved by the Voting Members in General Meeting. The entry fee payable, if any, shall be at the rate applicable as at the date of entry and shall be paid within 28 days of the date of offer of Membership As an alternative to Rule 9.1, Members will have the option to pay their entry fee, if any, by 36 monthly payments, on the first day of each month from date of entry, for the three years succeeding the date of entry, payable only by Standing Order in favour of the Club Members who resign because they have removed from their address to one outwith the district (being a radius of more than fifty miles from the Clubhouse) may, at the discretion of the Committee, be re-admitted on their return to the district without payment of entry fee, unless in the interval any entry fee payable has been increased, in which case the increase shall be payable Members who, for reasons of ill health, wish to leave the Club for an indeterminate period may, at the discretion of the Committee, be re-admitted without payment of entry fee, unless in the interval any entry fee payable has been increased, in which case the increase shall be payable Junior Members on reaching eighteen years of age may be admitted as Youth or Ordinary Members at the discretion of the Committee. For the Junior Member who has paid one year s subscription, three quarters of the Ordinary entry fee shall be payable. For the Junior Member who has paid two years subscription, one half of the Ordinary entry fee shall be payable. For the Junior Member who has paid three years subscription, on quarter of the Ordinary entry fee shall be payable. For the Junior Member who has paid four or more subscriptions, no entry fee shall be payable There shall be no entry fee for a Junior Member. 10. SUBSCRIPTIONS Methods of Payment 10.1 The annual subscription for any subscription year, which shall be from 1 April to 31 March, shall become due and payable in one payment on 1 April. With the exception of Junior Members attaining 18 years of age, all Members granted a change of membership category shall be required to retain their existing category and the relevant subscription until and including 31 March following approval of such change. 56

59 10.2. The Committee may, at its discretion, determine that non-payment of the annual subscription by 30 April of the year in question (unless the Member has elected under Rule 10.3, to make subscription payment under Direct Debit) is effective notification of resignation. As a result, the Committee may intimate to the said individual that their Membership has ceased As an alternative to Rule 10.1 all categories of Members may opt to pay their subscription in arrears by Direct Debit, collectable in equal instalments. Such payment option can only be exercised by a Member signing a Direct Debit Mandate in favour of Milngavie Golf Club, which must be lodged with the Secretary before 31 January in the year prior to commencement of subscription payment by Direct Debit New Members choosing to subscribe to the Direct Debit scheme shall pay their first instalment directly to the Secretary, with subsequent instalments being due and beginning from the first banking business day of the month following admission as members In the event that a Member fails to meet the obligations under the Direct Debit Mandate scheme after 1 April then the balance of the annual subscription will fall due for immediate payment Members who subscribe to the Direct Debit scheme and who miss two consecutive instalments will be considered to be in arrears. The Committee may, at its discretion, determine that non-payment of the subscription is effective notification of resignation and, as a result, the Committee may intimate to the said individual that their Membership has ceased Members in arrears in respect of their subscription or any part thereof or any Club payment shall not be permitted to participate in Club competitions or utilise Club facilities until payment has been made The annual subscription for new Members joining the Club after 30 April in any year shall be on a pro rata basis. Subscription Levels The annual subscription for Ordinary Members shall be fixed by the Voting Members in General Meeting The annual subscription for all other Membership Categories shall be determined by the Committee and advised to Members at the Annual General Meeting. 11. INFORMATION REGARDING SPECIFIC MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES Honorary It shall be competent for two-thirds of the Voting Members present at Annual General Meeting, on the recommendation of the Committee, to confer upon a Captain or upon any Member who has earned renown as a golfer or upon a person who, in the opinion of the Committee, is entitled to the honour, the distinction of Honorary Membership Honorary Members shall have full use of the course and Clubhouse but shall be subject to the authority of the Committee and may have their privileges summarily suspended or withdrawn without reason given Honorary Members shall have no right or interest in the property of the Club. They shall have no vote in the management of the Club s affairs but may attend and participate in discussions at General Meetings of the Club Honorary Members shall be entitled to play in all Club competitions. 57

60 Ordinary Full Ordinary Members who have attained Membership under the conditions as set out in Rule 8. Ordinary Retired This category was closed to new applications at the Annual General Meeting held on 13 November Notwithstanding the above, Members within this category prior to 13 November 2003 have retained their existing terms of Membership which are as Ordinary - Full. Life Playing On written application to the Secretary, the Committee may, in its discretion, admit as a Life Member any person who has been an Ordinary or Lady Member of the Club for a period of forty years With effect from the AGM on 15th February 2018, new members joining the Club on and after that date will no longer be eligible to apply for Life Membership Notwithstanding Rule 11.8, members who joined the Club on and after 1st January 2008 shall no longer be eligible to apply for Life Membership Former Lady Members electing for Associate Membership will no longer be eligible for Life Membership Life Membership shall be effective from 1 April following approval by the Committee Life Members shall be entitled to play in all Club Competitions. Life Non Playing Members as in Rule 11.8 who no longer play at the Club but wish to retain a link to the Club Life Members within this category shall have no rights or interest in the property of the Club and have no voice in the management of the Club s affairs. Senior This category was closed to new applications at the Special General Meeting held on 30 September Notwithstanding the above, Members within this category prior to 30 September 2010 have retained their existing terms of Membership Senior Members shall be entitled to commence play as follows: Monday to Friday 1 st Tee to be cleared by 5.00pm. Saturday and Sunday No Play Senior Members shall have full use of the Clubhouse and be allowed to play in Club competitions within their allocated times for handicap purposed only Senior Members may be invited by the Committee to participate in Club competitions outwith their allocated playing times Senior Members shall have no rights or interest in the property of the Club and have no voice in the management of the Club s affairs. Associate This category was closed to new applications at the Special General Meeting held on 30 September Notwithstanding the above, Members within this category prior to 30 September 2010 have retained their existing terms of Membership Subject to any limit on the maximum numbers of Ordinary Members under Rule 2, Associate Members may apply to become Ordinary Members by making written application and, following approval by the Committee, transfer shall become effective and shall incur a pro rata subscription charge. 58

61 Associate Members shall be entitled to commence play as follows: Monday to Friday No restrictions. Saturday No play before 4pm. Sunday No play before 11am Associate Members shall have full use of the Clubhouse and be allowed to play in Club competitions within their allocated times Associate Members may be invited by the Committee to participate in Club Competitions outwith their allocated playing times Associate Members shall have no right or interest in the property of the Club and have no voice in the management of the Club s affairs. Youth Junior Members on reaching eighteen years of age may be admitted as Youth or Ordinary Members at the discretion of the Committee. Entry to Youth or Ordinary Membership may require the payment of an entry fee (see Rule 9.5) Youth Membership may also be offered to new Members in accordance with Rule 8. The entry fee, if any, shall be fixed at the discretion of the Committee Youth Membership shall terminate on 31 March should the Youth Member attain 31 years of age during the preceding 12 months. The Youth Member may then be eligible for other categories of membership Youth Members may play in all SGU or SLGA competitions as appropriate Youth Members shall be allowed full use of the Clubhouse and shall have the same rights as Ordinary Members to introduce visitors in terms of Rule 16. Juniors Junior Members, being persons under 18 years of age, who have attained Membership under the conditions as set out in Rule 8 shall have full use of the Clubhouse and course subject to such terms and conditions as the Committee may from time to time determine A Junior Member, on reaching seventeen years of age, may make written application to the Committee for admission to Youth or Ordinary Membership. The Committee may admit such a Member at its sole discretion and, if admitted, the same Rules regarding payment of an entry fee as a Youth or Ordinary Member, as laid down in Rule 9.5 shall apply Junior Members shall be entitled to commence play as follows: Monday to Friday (excluding Tuesday Medal days): No play between 5pm and 7pm unless accompanied by and Adult Member. On occasions Junior Team Matches may be scheduled within these times. Tuesday Medal Days: No play between 5pm and 8pm. British Summer Time: Saturday No Play until after 2.30pm Sunday No play until after 12 noon and no play between 1pm and 2pm unless accompanied by an Adult Member. Times outwith British Summer Time: Saturday No play until after 1.30pm. Sunday No play until after 12noon Junior Members shall have no right or interest in the property of the Club and have no voice in the management of the Club s affairs. 59

62 Country Any person whose main place of residence is outwith an area of fifty mile radius from the Clubhouse shall be eligible to make application to become a Country Member. All applications for Country Membership shall be in writing and submitted to the Secretary The entry Fee for Country Members shall be as determined by the Committee in terms of Rule Country Members shall have full use of the Course and the Clubhouse Country Members shall be allowed to play in Club Medal Competitions for handicap purposes only Country Members shall be entitled to introduce visitors in accordance with Rule Country Members shall have no rights or interest in the property of the Club and have no voice in the management of the Club s affairs Members of the Club who become Country Members shall, on relocation back within an area of fifty miles radius of the Clubhouse, be readmitted to a category of Membership without payment of an entry fee unless in the interval any entry fee payable has increased in which case the increase shall be payable. 5 Day (Monday to Friday incl) The entry fee for 5-day Members shall be as determined by the Committee in terms of Rule day Members shall have full use of the Clubhouse and be allowed to play in Club competitions held within their allocated times day Members shall be entitled to introduce visitors in accordance with Rule day Members shall have no right or interest in the property of the Club and shall have no voice in the management of the Club s affairs. Flexible The annual subscription and entry fee for Flexible Members shall be as determined by the Committee in terms of Rule Flexible Members must report to the Bar, sign the relevant book and pay 50% of the appropriate visitors fee per round prior to play Flexible Members shall have full use of the Clubhouse and be allowed to play in weekday Club competitions for handicap purposes only Flexible Members shall be allowed to introduce visitors in accordance with Rule Flexible Members shall have no right or interest in the property of the Club and shall have no voice in the management of the Club s affairs. House On written application by the following persons the Committee may in its discretion admit as non-playing House Members; wife, husband or immediate family of an existing Member Members who have had ten years as an Ordinary Member and for age or health reasons have ceased to play golf Members who have not had ten years Ordinary Membership but who wish to apply under exceptional circumstances Members who have left the district, being defined as a radius of more than fifty miles from the Clubhouse, but who wish to retain a connection with the Club. 60

63 House Members shall have no right to play the course, other than as a guest or visitor, but shall be allowed full use of the Clubhouse House Members shall have no right or interest in the property of the Club and shall have no voice in the management of the Club s affairs. 12. INFORMATION REGARDING OTHER CATEGORIES. Restricted On written application to the Secretary by candidates on the Waiting List, the Committee may at its discretion admit as a Restricted Member such candidate Restricted Members must accept Ordinary Membership of the Club immediately such Ordinary Membership is offered to them Restricted Members will only be allowed to commence play as follows: Monday Before 4pm and after 7pm. Tuesday to Friday Before 4pm. Saturday and Sunday After 6.00 p.m Restricted Members may play in Club competitions, within their allotted times, for handicap purposes only Restricted Members shall have the same rights as Ordinary Members to introduce visitors in terms of Rule 16 within their allotted playing times Restricted Members shall have the full use of the Clubhouse Restricted Members shall have no right or interest in the property of the Club and have no voice in the management of the Club s affairs. Temporary Any person temporarily within an area of fifteen miles radius from the Clubhouse for a period of not less than one week and not more than twelve months may (subject to any restrictions on maximum numbers which may be determined under Rule 2.1 and any conditions of play which may be determined under Rule 4.14) be eligible as a Temporary Member for a period not less than one week at such rates of payment as may be determined by the Committee. All applications for Membership must be submitted to the Secretary The Committee may at its discretion admit as Temporary Members, for one or more days, with or without payment, Members of any other Golf Club or Association. Such Members may have the courtesy of all the facilities of the Clubhouse and course for the duration of their Membership The names and addresses of all persons so admitted shall be posted in the Clubhouse for three days prior to the game, match or competition and attested by the signature of the Captain or Secretary Temporary Members shall be subject to the authority of the Committee and may have their privileges summarily suspended or withdrawn without reason given Temporary Members shall not have the right to introduce visitors to play on the course Temporary Members shall have the use of the Clubhouse and course but not the full privileges of Membership Temporary Members shall have no right or interest in the property of the Club, have no voice in the management of the Club s affairs and shall not play in Club competitions. 61

64 Corporate The Committee may, at its discretion, offer Corporate Membership on such terms and conditions as it deems fit, to any corporate body which may apply Corporate Membership will bestow no rights or interest in the property of the Club and no voice in the management of the Club s affairs. 13. RESIGNING FROM THE CLUB All resignations from the Club must be submitted in writing to the Secretary on or before 31 March, after which all on the Membership Roll shall be held liable for the annual subscription for the ensuing year and for their share of the Club s obligations. Those Members making payment of their annual subscription by installments under a Bankers Order or the Direct Debit Scheme will, upon resignation, remain liable for payment of all remaining installments due and may elect to continue to do so under the Direct Debit Scheme or to make final settlement by cheque to the Secretary. 14. SUSPENSIONS AND EXPLULSIONS The Committee shall have the power, on a vote by ballot, by a majority of its entire number, to suspend and if necessary expel from such date as it may fix, any Member whose conduct appears to the Committee to endanger the character, interest or good order of the Club or who acts in defiance of its Rules and Bye-Laws. 15. WITHDRAWING AND RE-JOINING 15.1 Members who resign because they have removed from their address or one outwith the district, being a radius of more than fifty miles from the Clubhouse, may, at the discretion of the Committee, be re-admitted on their return to the district without payment of entry fee unless in the interval the entry fee has been increased, in which case the increase shall be payable Members, who for ill health, wish to leave the Club for an indeterminate period may, at the discretion of the Committee be re-admitted without payment of entry fee unless in the interval any entry fee payable has been increased in which case the increase shall be payable. 16. VISITORS Members (excluding Juniors) introducing Visitors Members may only introduce visitors within playing times allotted to their category of Membership Members must enter the names of their visitors in the Visitor s Book before commencement of play The Green Fee for visitors introduced by Members, including any Government taxes due, shall be fixed at General Meetings of the Club and must be paid for each visitor before commencement of play The same person may not be introduced as a visitor more than six times in one calendar year whether by the same Member or by different Members and whether on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays On Saturdays prior to 3.30pm a Member may introduce only one visitor who must play with the Member introducing such visitor On weekdays, Saturdays after 3.30pm, Sundays and Public Holidays a Member may introduce not more than three visitors who must play with the Member introducing such visitors. 62

65 16.7. Members who are unable to accompany their visitor(s) to the course must send a card of introduction bearing the names(s) of the visitor(s), the date and the Member s signature Any visitor(s) may have food at the Clubhouse but cannot be supplied with any excisable liquor unless on the invitation and in the company of a Member who has previously entered their own and their visitor(s) name, address and date in the book kept for that purpose. Juniors introducing Visitors Junior Members must enter the names of their visitors in the Visitors Book before commencement of play The Green Fee for Junior visitors shall be 50% of the cost stated in Rule 16.3 with the full fee being charged where an adult is introduced as a visitor by a Junior Member. Such green fee must be paid prior to commencement of play Junior Members aged 10 years or less may not normally be permitted to introduce Junior visitors unless prior approval is obtained from a Committee member. The visitor must play with the Junior Member Junior Members aged 11 to 14 may introduce up to two Junior visitors at any one time who must play with the Junior Member introducing such visitors Junior Members aged from 15 years or over may introduce up to three visitors (Juniors or Adults) who must play with the Junior Member introducing such visitors Other than on a Saturday, when Junior Members wishing to introduce visitors are also subject to the restriction outlined under Rule 16.5, visitors may be introduced by Junior Members at any time when Junior Members are permitted to play. 17. RESTRICTIONS AS TO THE SALE OF LIQUOR No excisable liquor shall be sold or supplied in the Club premises for consumption off the premises except: (a) To a Member of the Club in person for consumption by them. (b) To a person holding an excise licence for the sale of such liquor No Member of the Committee and no employee of the Club shall have any personal interest in the sale of excisable liquor therein, or in the profits arising from such sale No excisable liquors shall be sold or supplied to any person under eighteen years of age Permitted hours for the sale of alcoholic liquor are as laid down in the current Licensing (Scotland) Act with the power to the Committee to restrict these hours at their discretion. 18. COMPLIANCE WITH RULES 18.1 All Members on admission to the Club thereby submit themselves to the Rules and Bye-Laws, both as to their restrictions enjoined and the penalties imposed, and on these conditions alone are entitled to the advantages and privileges of the Club. A copy of the Rules and Bye Laws, will be available from the Club Secretary on request and a list of Members names and addresses retained within the Secretary s office The Captain, or in his/her absence, the Vice-Captain, on any written complaint being submitted to the Secretary regarding a breach of the Rules or Bye-Laws, may, in his/her discretion, investigate the breach with a view to a report being submitted to the next Meeting of the Committee. 63

66 18.3 All disciplinary matters within the Club shall rest with the Committee and the Captain in the exercise of his/her investigative powers. 19. RULES OF PLAY The Rules of Golf, as they may be fixed from time to time by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, shall be the Rules of Play To the extent that they may be permitted under the aforementioned Rules, Local Rules (as determined under Bye-Law 3) may be adopted by the Committee and shall become effective and binding on all Members. 20. ALTERATION OF RULES No alteration shall be made in the foregoing Rules except at a General Meeting of the Club, and the notice calling such a Meeting shall state the alteration(s) proposed, but no such alteration(s) shall take effect unless it or they are affirmed by a two-thirds majority of those present and voting Any proposal to alter these Rules, except alteration(s) recommended by the Committee, must be intimated in writing to the Secretary, signed by at least two Voting Members, not later than 31 December and intimated in the Notice calling the Annual General Meeting. THE MILNGAVIE GOLF CLUB BYE-LAWS 1. GENERAL 1.1 All Members acting in contravention of Club Rules and Bye-Laws render themselves liable to be dealt with in accordance with Rule 14, Rule 18 and these Bye-Laws and Members shall be liable for any breach committed by their visitor(s) or their own or their visitor(s) caddie. 1.2 With the exception of guide dogs, dogs are prohibited in the Clubhouse unless the Committee has given prior written consent. 1.3 The right to vacant lockers shall be determined by the Committee by priority of application. Notwithstanding, applications from Voting Members shall take precedence over applications from Senior, Associate and Junior Members. 1.4 All Members changing their address shall notify the Secretary in writing and, failing such intimation, all notices sent to the old address will be held as delivered. 1.5 No complaints shall be considered by the Committee unless made in writing to the Secretary No unauthorised Member shall subject any employee of the Club to a personal reprimand. 1.7 The Club is a non-profit making organisation. All profits and surpluses will be used to maintain or improve the Club s facilities. No profit or surplus will be distributed, other than to another non-profit making body or to the Voting Members on winding-up or dissolution of the Club. 1.8 Notwithstanding Rule 4.1, the Committee shall have the power to appoint any person, who may or may not be a Member of the Club to assist in the Management of the Club. The person or persons so appointed shall not have any right or interest in the Club and shall have no vote in the Management of the Club s affairs. 64

67 2. FOR PLAY 2.1 The Club Fixtures for a year shall be arranged by the Committee at the beginning of the year and notice thereof given to each Member. The Committee shall have the power to arrange other Club Competitions in the course of the year, and notice of such shall be posted in the Clubhouse. 2.2 Except as in hereinafter provided, the order of commencing play shall be regulated by the use of the online tee booking system adopted by the Club. In every case players shall use the online tee booking system and shall report to the starter before commencing play. 2.3 A player failing to report to the starter at least 10 minutes before the tee off time will require to arrange a fresh starting time. 2.4 When considered expedient, the Committee shall have power to regulate the starting by ballot. 2.5 Any dispute at the first tee as to precedence of start shall be referred to a Member of the Committee whose decision shall be final. 2.6 On Saturday competition days, four-ball matches shall not commence play before 3.00pm. 2.7 On Additional Medal Saturdays, four-ball matches may not commence play until after the last time detailed on the Starting Sheet except during the months of November to March inclusive when two and fourball matches may commence at any time. Order of commencement of play shall be regulated by the use of the online booking system adopted by the Club. 2.8 On Tuesday medal dates, four-ball matches shall not commence play after 4.00pm. 2.9 On request being made, three and four-ball matches shall give way to single matches The use of pull caddy carts shall be allowed at all times to all Members aged 65 and over The use of motorised golf carts shall be allowed at all times to all Members who are disabled. Their disability must be supported by official documentation verifiable by the Committee A decision to close the course will rest with any one of the following; Course Manager, Greens Convener, Captain or Vice Captain. Any such decision may initially be temporary to enable a further review to be completed at a designated time later in the day. Following confirmation of course closure any Member already on the course will be required to leave the course when so instructed On a competition day, a temporary course closure may be agreed for a period of one hour if it is anticipated that conditions will materially improve and could enable the competition to start at a later time. If this review process confirms the course is fit for play, then the competition start time will be confirmed and all booked tee times will be delayed by the time elapsed. If the review process confirms the course is not fit for play, then the course will remain closed and the competition will be cancelled. Following cancellation of the competition if conditions improve later in the day and the course becomes playable again the course will be opened for bounce games Where winter greens are available for play, Members may elect not to await the course review process and are entitled to withdraw from the competition and simply play the course available, this option will not exist when winter greens are not available. 65

68 3. LOCAL RULES 3.1 All amendments and additions to Local Rules shall be posted on the appropriate Notice Boards within the Clubhouse and remain thereon until such time as they are printed on the Club score card at the earliest opportunity. 3.2 Local Rules deemed by the Committee to be of a temporary nature need only be posted on the appropriate Notice Boards. 3.3 There will be no practice on the course including all tees and greens. For the avoidance of doubt on the course does not include that area to the right of the first fairway designated as the Practice Ground nor the area to the right of the 8 th hole designated as the Short Course Practice Area. 4. COMPETITIONS Members in arrears 4.1. Any Member failing to pay their annual subscription or part thereof by the due date, whether by Direct Debit or other installment arrangement shall not be permitted to participate in Club Competitions or utilise Club facilities until payment has been made Classes 4.2 In all S.G.U. Club competitions there will be three classes: 1st Class Handicaps up to and including 9. 2nd Class Handicaps from 10 to 17 inclusive. 3rd Class Handicaps from 18 to 28 inclusive. 4.3 In all S.L.G.A. competitions there will be two classes: Silver Division Handicaps up to and including 20. Bronze Division, Handicaps from 21 to 36 inclusive. BALLOT AND ORDER OF PLAY 4.4 The Committee shall have the power to regulate starting times of all competitions in the Club. 4.5 A Returns Box will be provided in accordance with classes detailed in 4.2 and Before the commencement of play, all competitors must enter their name on the Competition Entry Sheet or on the computer whichever is applicable. 4.7 The competitor s name, handicap and date of competition should be detailed, in block capitals, on the completed score card. 4.8 Completed score cards, signed by the competitor and countersigned by a marker must be placed in the proper compartment of the Returns Box after the competitor has entered their score in the computer when in operation. 4.9 Competitors playing in the Dawn Patrol must transfer competition entry details to the Competition Entry Sheet, if applicable, upon completion of their round. If however, the computer is in operation their scores should be recorded on it. TIES 4.10 Ties in all stroke-play competitions shall be decided on the day of play. Results will be decided as follows: 18 hole Competitions best last 9, last 3, last hole. 36 hole Competitions best last 18, last 9, last 3, last hole. In the event of the foregoing not producing a winner, the Committee shall have the power to make a ruling Ties in other Competitions must be decided either by sudden death or by a play-off within the time limits specified, as agreed by the Competitors. 66

69 4.12 In the final of other Competitions, in the event of a tie, finish will be by sudden death. Tuesday Medals 4.13 As S.G.U. Medals are for handicap purposes only, these should not be cancelled if the start of play is delayed. If conditions result in the abandonment of play at anytime during the day, Rule 20.5 of the Standard Scratch Score and Handicapping System will apply. 5. CLUBHOUSE AND COURSE 5.1 The Clubhouse and the Course shall be opened and closed at such times and on such conditions as the Committee may determine. 5.2 Members shall defray whatever expenses they incur before leaving the Clubhouse. 5.3 Gratuities to employees, either from Members of the Club or tradesmen, are strictly prohibited. A tradesman offering money or any present to any employee of the Club shall cease to be employed. 5.4 No Member shall, on any plea whatever, take away, injure, deface or destroy any notice, newspaper, pamphlet, book or any other article forming the property of the Club. 5.5 No notice or document of any kind shall be placed on the Notice Board or walls of the Clubhouse, except by the authority of the Committee, the Captain or the Secretary. 5.6 Members and Visitors must abide by the Dress Rules and Regulations of the Club both on the course and in and around the Clubhouse. The details of current Dress Rules and Regulations will be on display on Notice Boards throughout the Clubhouse. 5.7 Mobile phones should not be used in the Clubhouse or on the Course. They may be used in the Locker Room and within vehicles in the car park and in emergency, at any time, to summon medical assistance. 6. HOURS OF PLAY The first tee shall be reserved for play by Members playing in Club Competitions in accordance with the dates and times published in the Fixture Diary and Notices displayed in the Clubhouse or intimated on the Club s Information Line. 7. ALTERATION OF BYE-LAWS 7.1 The Committee shall have power to alter or add to the foregoing Bye-Laws as circumstances in their opinion require, and such Bye- Laws as so altered or added to shall, on the expiry of the fourteen days after the same shall have been intimated upon the Notice Board in the Clubhouse, become and remain binding upon the Members until the first General Meeting when such alteration or addition shall be submitted for confirmation by the Voting Members The Voting Members eligible to vote at any Meeting, due notice having been given, may, by a simple majority, alter or add to the foregoing Bye-Laws. 67

How to avoid Slow Play 1. Having played a wayward shot, Members should immediately consider whether a provisional ball should be played. The Committee does not expect this decision to be made AFTER a ball is declared lost. 2. If the game behind is waiting on the tee and Members are looking for a ball, the game behind MUST be waved through. 3. When approaching a green, Members should consider where the next tee is located and leave clubs appropriately to ensure the green can be cleared promptly upon conclusion of play. 4. Walk smartly between shots. 5. Marking of cards should be done when time permits NOT upon conclusion of play at any given hole.
