1 The Naperville Trapshooter The Official Newsletter of The Naperville Sportsman s Club December 2006 Issue Turkey Slough Annual Turkey Shoot Results.reporting from the Naperville Sportsman s Newsroom Brisk temperatures, coupled with cloudy skies set the stage for the Fourth Annual Turkey Shoot held November 16 th at Sportsman s Park. The determined souls who braved these less than ideal conditions were rewarded for their efforts with a Naperville turkey. As in the past this year outfitter reported the hunt Sold-Out! 25 members RSVP d to this annual event, testing their skill and cunning against the wily tom. Jay Spitz, clipping just a chip, battled to bag the first bird, followed in-turn, by members Bill Isiminger, Bob Ash and Bill Benson. The fifth turkey of the night was also caught by Bob Ash, filling his limit for the evening. comtinued page 3 What s Inside President s Message... 1 Turkey Slough... 1 The Fred Section... 2 Straight Runs... 2 Club Info Trap League Dates... 3 Custom Ear Plugs... 3 Campaign Speech... 3 Fall Wobble League Results & Pics... 4 AIM Update... 5 Dates to Remember... 5 Newsletter Update... 5 Member Classified... 5 Sportsman s Slam... 6 Classifieds... 7 Calendar Member/Board Meeting Date: 7:30 P.M. -December 12, 2006 President s Message Annual Meeting Agenda The Annual Meeting of the Members will be held December 12, 2006 at 7:30 PM. January Non-renewed persons no longer receive the shooting discount, but they can still renew under the grace period. February Don t wait until February. 3 December 2006 Issue 3 Turkey Slough continued Roost #6 was won by member Bob Seetin, who would limit out with his second bird bagged on the 9th hunt. The seventh bird of the night was harvested by member Mark Pope. Bill Isiminger capped his night with a second turkey taken in hunt #8. In the final outing of the evening, the back handicap yardage found Bill Benson filling his bag limit, taking home the last of the Naperville Toms. A recap of this year s hunt results Bob Ash, Bill Isiminger, Bob Seetin and Bill Benson each bagged their limit of (2) birds apiece with Jay Spitz and Mark Pope each snagging (1) bird apiece for their efforts. While the rest got skunked, the consensus among all the shooters was that this year s Gobble Wobble was a lot of fun and they can t wait again until next year. Congratulations to all our Naperville hunters!.from the Naperville Sportsman s Newsroom...Jay Spitz NSC Life Member 2007 Trap League 2007 Trap League Dates The following dates in 2007 have been selected for our trap leagues. Sign-up sheets for each league will be posted on the bulletin board in the clubhouse a couple of weeks prior to the league start date. The details of each league will also be posted at that time. January 21 March 4. Doubles League (Sunday). 50-pair of doubles each Sunday, seven weeks. April 5 May 24. Singles League (Thursday) yard singles each Thursday, eight weeks. June 7 or June 14. Club Handicap Championship (Thursday). 100 handicap targets, one night event. September 13 November 1. Wobble League (Thursday) yard wobble targets each Thursday, eight weeks. Except for the club handicap championship, leagues are open to both club members as well as non-members. Each league has a limited number of spots available, with club members getting priority when signing up. The league dates are subject to change depending on conflicts with other club activities....scott Calhoun Vice President & Webmaster CUSTOM EAR-PLUGS December 21st Scheduled Cost - $40.00/pair. Clint has agreed to set up shop in our NSC kitchen on Thursday, December 21st! Clint makes those custom earplugs that you see some of our members wearing at the club. As I stated before, they are very comfortable, and block out 99% of the noise. The wax molding process does not hurt. You get the product that very evening - - and I hope to get mine in my favorite color - purple - - not hunter orange! (In fact, I overheard one member state that they want a 2nd pair done in natural - so they can look more authentic during their cowboy shooting outings! Let s hear it for Mr. Monk going au natural....!) If you never had them - - Please stop and ask, I m sure any member wearing them would be glad to answer all of your questions....arlene Kollar NSC mem ber Campaign Speech Incumbent Director I would like your vote. I have had the pleasure of serving on the board to fill a temporary position. I have learned much and have developed some momentum towards becoming an asset to the club. I feel that I have some skills and background that will allow me to help the club address the many issues it faces regularly. Please help me continue my efforts by attending and voting for me at the next general meeting /election. My name is Ron Tanski....Ron Tanski NSC Director

4 The Naperville Trapshooter 4 Fall Wobble League Results Thursday, November 9, marked the final night of shooting in this year s Fall Trap League. The league had 32 shooters competing over a nine week schedule. Shooting took place on Thursday night, with each participant shooting yard wobble targets. This was our first wobble league, and everyone seemed to enjoy the challenge of wobble. The top two shooters were awarded High Overall trophies, with the remaining 30 shooters divided into five classes based on their best seven scores. In the High Overall competition, Mike Moore broke a league-leading 401 targets in nine weeks, edging out runner-up Art Jablonski by four targets. Eight shooters recorded 25-straights in the league, including Mike Moore who accomplished the feat 3 times. Congratulations to everyone who was perfect. Mark Suda, Mike Moore (3), Tom Krolick, Art Jablonski, Tom Brooks, Bob Ash, Jud Mann, Bob Seetin Class winners were: Class Winner Runner-up Third Place AA Bob Ash Jud Mann Tom Brooks A Scott Calhoun Tony Panagakos Jay Spitz B Bob Beyer Charlie Tlapa Joe Kuhn C Judy Novotny Vic Vosen Bill Benson D Rich Kelly Jay Martinez Chuck Novotny 2006 Wobble League Winners: Champion Mike Moore, Runner-up Art Jablonski Awards from Lonesome Charlie Leatherworks were awarded to class winners, runner-up, and third place finishers, as well as the winners of the High Overall competition. All of the shooters enjoyed a fried chicken meal on the last night of the league, so even if you didn t win a trophy you at least got something to eat. Congratulations to all of the winners. Next up is a doubles league over the winter (starting sometime in January, date TBD), and then another single-shot league in the spring. Info will be in the newsletter and posted in the clubhouse....scott Calhoun Vice President & Webmaster Merry Chrismoose!

6 The Naperville Trapshooter 6 Sportsman s Slam Coming in the Sportsman s Slam and Club Champion Golf has a Grand Slam. Tiger Woods has his own version, the Tiger Slam. Tennis has one also. Starting in 2007, the Naperville Sportsman s Club will have its very own version of the Grand Slam the Sportsman s Slam. For those not familiar with Grand Slams in other sports, it consists of four major tournaments that are held each year. For golf it s the Masters, the U.S. and British Opens, and the PGA Championship. Tennis has Wimbledon, the U.S., French, and Australian Opens. If a single person wins all four events in a single calendar year, they have won the Grand Slam. The events that make up the Grand Slam are considered to be the ultimate test of a competitor s skill, and the Sportsman s Club version won t be any different. Our trapshooting at Sportsman s Park consists, conveniently, of four disciplines Singles (16-yard), Handicap (21-27 yards), Doubles, and Wobble. Starting next year we ll crown a champion in each discipline and in the process give someone a chance to win the Sportsman s Slam. The slam will begin in January with the Doubles League. We ll crown a doubles champion, and in the process identify a single individual with a shot at winning the Sportsman s Slam. The spring league will be a singles league, so we ll have a club singles champion when that is done. The club handicap championship will be the third event in the Sportsman s Slam, held in early June, and we ll finish the year by crowning a wobble champion in the fall league. The competition will be stiff so, just as in golf and tennis, winning even one leg of the Sportsman s Slam will be quite an accomplishment. We ll find out if there s one shooter who can stand up to the pressure of winning all four big events and be able to claim the Sportsman s Slam. Club Champion As part of our Sportsman s Slam series of events, we ll also identify our club champion. In short, club members will earn points based on their order of finish in each of the four Sportsman s Slam events. The club member with the most points at the end of the year will be crowned Club Champion. Points for each event will be awarded to the 1st thru 10th place club finishers. First place will be worth 10 points, second place nine points, and so on, with 10th place receiving one point. Points will then be increased based on a multiplier to account for the depth of the field. The multiplier will reward shooters for placing higher in events with larger fields. # of club shooters Multiplier 10 or less Final details will be posted on the league bulletin board in the clubhouse prior to starting the doubles league in January. It s important to note that neither the Sportsman s Slam nor the accumulation of points for club champion will affect how we run our trap leagues. We ll still award trophies in each league just as we have in past years, and you are under no obligation to participate in all four events. Our leagues are still designed to provide some friendly competition with an emphasis on creating an enjoyable social atmosphere to give our members a reason to come out to Sportsman s Park and shoot a few rounds of trap each week....scott Calhoun Vice President & Webmaster
