2 -2- Gobble Wobble 2012 The Fall Wobble League will soon begin and that once again signals the run up to the 10 th Annual Club Turkey Shoot Naperville Sportsman s Club turkey season opens on or about Thursday, November 8 th. Win a prize turkey to gobble on your Thanksgiving Table! The Gobble Wobble, is an invitation-only, member shoot. The program format is a sliding wobble, leveraging the full capability of our Pat-Traps as well as the 11 yards of the trap field. The outfitter has held the line on cost the entry fee per hunt remains a mere buck per bird. As in years past, we allow a maximum of 20 Members per hunt, with 10 hunts planned ($10 max.). Hunting regulations stipulate a possession limit of 2 Toms so everyone gets their chance to bag this cagey Naperville fowl. Rules of the hunt will be posted in the Clubhouse last year s guns receive a right of first refusal for this always-soldout event. A wait list will be available for those interested in attending this year s hunt. With enough notice, maybe I can get Mrs. Spitter to cook up a pot of her famous turkey chili for the hunters among us gobble, gobble, gobble will be spoken here! To reserve your place, contact the outfitter. Reservations are pre-paid, so sign up and pay your money to Jay, today! Jay can be reached at (630) or jspitz@napervillesportsmansclub.org Calhoun wins 4 trophies at 2012 Michigan State Shoot NSC member Scott Calhoun travelled to Mason, Michigan, just south of Lansing, in late July to participate in the Michigan State Trapshooting Championships. The shoot is held at the Michigan Trap Association home grounds, where they have 40 trap fields to use for competition, along with three fields for practice. You do not need to be a Michigan resident to participate in the Michigan State Shoot, as all ATA state shoots offer resident and non-resident trophies as part of their events. Scott participated in the final three days of the shoot, which included four preliminary events as well as the three championship events for singles, doubles, and handicap. Trophies Scott earned his first trophy in the Class Doubles event on Friday, shooting a 96 which won the Non-Resident A Class award. Saturday was the championship Singles event, and a score of 197 was good enough to take the Non Resident A Class trophy. The handicap championship was Sunday, and Scott scored a 97 from 26-yards, including the last 50 straight, putting him in a five-way tie for Non-Resident champion. A 24 in the first shoot-off round reduced the field of five down to two, and Scott s 23 in the second round came up short against a perfect 25 from fellow Illinois resident Frank Bentley, so Scott brought home the Non-Resident Runner-up trophy. The final trophy of the weekend was for the Non-Resident High All Around Class A winner. HAA is based on the total score from all championship events, and Scott recorded a score of 387. Scott had a 93 in the championship doubles to go along with his 197 in singles and 97 in handicap. Jay Spitz Naperville Turkey Outfitters
3 Six NSC shooters attend ATA Grand American, Moore and Calhoun bring home four trophies -3- Six members of NSC represented the club at the recently completed ATA Grand American Trapshooting Championships. The Grand was held August 8 thru 18. The Grand American Championships are in their 113 th year, and are contested at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex in Sparta, Illinois. The championship runs for 11 days and consists of 23 events covering singles, doubles, and handicap shooting. In addition to the competition each day, the Grand is famous for its vendor row offering all things shooting related. This year there were a few hot days at the beginning of the shoot, but cooler temperatures prevailed thru most of the last week. Mike Moore got things started, shooting in the first event of the championships on Wednesday, August 8 and shot all 23 events and 2,600 targets thru the last day. Scott Calhoun and Rich Kelly began shooting two days later and shot 17 events and 2,000 targets. Jud Mann arrived in time to begin shooting on Sunday, the final day of the preliminary events, and Art Jablonski and Ray Wieser began shooting on Monday, the first day of Championship week and logged 1,100 targets each. This was also Jud s first trip to the Grand American. Handicap with 1,681 shooters, posting a 97 from the 26-yard line which put him in a tie for 2 rd place in the yard group. Mike was in a four-way shoot-off for the 2 nd and 3 rd place trophy, but didn t come out on top after a 25-target shoot-off. Scott earned his first trophy of this year s Grand in the Wenig Gunstock Doubles on Sunday of preliminary week, posting a score of 98 resulting in a four-way tie for the top spot. 1,291 shooters took the line for the doubles event. Scott took the winner s trophy after the carry-over tie-breaker on Tuesday. Also on Tuesday Scott shot a 97 from the 27-yard line to finish in a tie for 7 th place in a field of 2,016 shooters in the President s Handicap event. After shoot-offs on Tuesday night Scott ended up with the 27-yard Champion trophy. The non-shooting highlight of the trip was our annual steak dinner on Wednesday night. A group had an enjoyable evening at Andria s Steakhouse in O Fallon, dining on prime steaks and all the usual accompaniments. Anyone who hasn t attended a Grand American tournament should really consider attending. Even if you don t plan on shooting or aren t an ATA member, there are plenty of things to occupy a day or two, and every shooter should take the opportunity to see the incredible facility that was built by the state to host this annual event. There are 120 trap fields stretching 3 miles in length. Event participation during the Grand saw over 2,000 shooters participating in the championship events. There are camping facilities for 1,000 campers and motorhomes. There are also two sporting clay courses and pistol ranges, and 24 of the fields are combination trap/skeet. It really is a mecca for shooters. Left to Right: Scott Calhoun, Art Jablonski, Mike Moore, Ray Wieser, Rich Kelly Trophies NSC members Mike Moore and Scott Calhoun each returned from this year s ATA Grand American Trapshooting Championships with two trophies, having previously won their first Grand American trophies in Mike earned a runner-up trophy in the Sub Veteran category (shooters aged 55-64) during the NSSF Doubles on Thursday of preliminary week. In a field of 652 shooters, Mike posted a 98 to tie for the top Sub Vet award, and after a carry-over tiebreaker ended up with the runner-up trophy. Mike posted a 97 in the Bud Light Doubles the next day in a field of 1,013 shooters, which also earned him the runner-up award for Sub Veterans. Mike was also in contention for a third trophy on Sunday during the final handicap event of preliminary week, the Blaser Left to Right: Scott Calhoun, Mike Moore

Recently, Sarah and I went down to the paddle-boat quarry and while it was warm, we managed to snag a few nice bluegill and rock bass many might recall that Sarah won a couple of fishing combos in the bucket raffle from the picnic!
