Time to get the sporting clay and trap guns ready. For the Summer skeet shooters you can join the tough guys who braved the winter and shot every week! On a bright note D.G.S.C. is continuing to grow with new members while many clubs across the country are struggling. With everyone s help our fees and dues should hold at about $6 a month for shooting members ($75 year) and about $10 per month for Senior members ($125 year). Our per round fees remain much lower than almost any club. Just returned from some Florida Chain shooting and at the Gator Skeet and Trap Club Fees are $5.50 per round of Trap or Skeet for members and $7.50 for non members. 5 stand goes for $6.00 and $8.00. Continue to practice Gun Safety at all times. This keeps our insurance as low as possible. Catching or picking up your MT's during practice keeps our labor costs down is our 60th Anniversary and the shooting schedule is filling up quickly. Come out and enjoy what D.G.S.C. has to offer and pitch in when you have a little spare time. See you at the club Jim Olin Legal/Insurance Information: There are two Bylaw changes (found on Page 3) to be considered at this months Senior Member s meeting, the Board agreed to hold publication of the updated Bylaws until those motions were considered. A reminder of the process for getting the new updated Bylaws out to the membership will be in the newsletter following the finalization of any changes based on the Bylaw votes Sunday March 21st. Hunting/Fishing News: The pheasant release season will end at the end of March. Any birds left after the Bird Dog Challenge will be released on the 13th. Pay for birds you harvest. Even though hunting season is over, the club stays open all year long. Come out and support the club by shooting some clays or volunteering your time. Chuck Feuillan ATA News: 2010 ATA shoots hosted by DGSC are listed on the DGSC website and are in the 2010 club calendar. As always volunteers are very much needed and appreciated please contact Jeff Gibbs if your interested in helping out. 5 Stand/Sporting Clays News: Remember we can always use volunteers on days of Club Shoots and will need them for the NSCA shoots we are running this year. Opening 2010 Sporting Clays club shoot is May 8 th. Club will also be running a swap meet that day so bring out the family for a full day of events. Please contact Mark Gronych if your interested in volunteering. Grounds Information: The grounds committee will be working on Wednesday of each week unless weather or club functions dictate differently. Anyone interested in giving a hand on the many projects needed, will be appreciated. There are many projects that could be done by individuals on their schedule. We re going to try to do all the maintenance of the tractor and other equipment in house this year to save the club money. Pete Weber Buildings Information: New folding tables have been set up in the Great Room. Although these tables have been approved to hold a large amount of weight, please for safety reason do not stand on these tables. There is also a new quarter candy machine between the 2 pop machines in the hall this machine was donated to the club by Jerry Lee. Please check the club website/calendar to keep up with what is going on at the club. We will start having ATA registered targets on the 1 st Wednesday of each month. On the 3rd Thursday of each month we will again have the Big-50 program. Both of these programs let an ATA member register targets at a very reduced price, and let shooters register targets without attending a formal shoot. On the Wednesday target only shoots we will have marathons, and the price per 100 targets goes down the more targets you shoot. The Big-50 program allows shooters to register 50 targets of each venue for reduced prices per day. It will be necessary to have a total of 3 shooters per event (singles, doubles, or handicap). On March 27 th Recob is back for a visit. They have most everything in stock, and please pre order. On that same day we will have a Ham Shoot at the club starting at 10:00 AM. Lots of things are going to be happening around May/June at the club. We are going to have a flea market/swap meet in May for hunting and fishing items. The price of the tables is going to be $15.00/table and no junk or trash will be allowed. Firearms may be sold off of the tables, but the buyers and sellers will have to obey all state and local laws regarding such. Lunch will be available, along with 50/50 s, and raffle. See me if you wish to reserve a table. Larry White is going to run a trap/skeet league on Tuesdays in May. The club will be staying open until 7 pm on those days for league shooters, and possible later if the demand is there. Thanks to Jim O. and Bill E. we have new and upgraded lights for night time shooting. On Saturday, June 12th we will be having a Model 12 shoot. It will be of course for Winchester Model 12 s only! There will be a shoot beforehand, an auction of shooters, and then the shoot in the afternoon. Lunch will be included in the price of the shoot, and there will be various 50/50 s, and raffles for those that wish to participate. I think Herman s Model 12 will have to come out for the day! There may be a shotgun coaches class, and much more is in the works. Volunteers are needed for all of these events, so please contact a board member if you wish to lend a hand! I have been out to the club quite a bit lately, and I would like to point out a problem that goes away for awhile then returns all the time. Shooters are letting their empties fly onto the ground. Even shooters that are wearing empty shell pouches are letting them fly. This makes extra work for the employees, and if they don t get them picked up it is very bad for the mowers in the summer. This is something that has to be addressed every once in awhile. Don t be surprised if someone comes up to you if you are doing this and speaks to you about it! Let me start off by thanking everyone that attended the February 28th benefit tower shoot at Erienna Hunt Club. A big thank you goes out to the 23 shooters, including our own DGSC members that made this such a successful shoot. The team and it's coaches appreciate your efforts. Also a big thank you to the staff at Erienna Hunt Club. On March 13th at 2:00pm the club will be holding it's annual corned beef and cabbage dinner. A $10.00 donation would be greatly appreciated. As I have said before, Youth and Community Relations is growing greatly, as is our youth shooting team. We registered new youth shooters on February 20th, and many of them have already begun to practice with the team. This month we will have our first Girl Scout Troop come out for shooting instruction. Yes, I said Girl Scouts. We have Boy Scout Troop 444 booked for a camp out and shooting instruction in May. On May 16th the Club will be the host for a shoot sponsored by Women in the Outdoors. This fine organization is for women that want to be educated and involved in various outdoor activities. They will be using our facilities for trap, skeet, and sporting clays shooting and instruction. You can see there's alot going on, and a great many people and organizations taking interest in our fine club. Please take interest in our young shooters, they are the future of this sport, and our club. I thank you for your continued support. Finances and Fiscal Year Section 4 A committee designated by the Board of Directors and submitted at a regular general membership meeting of the Club shall make a thorough audit of the financial records of the Club at least once each year. Submitted at Dec 2009 General Membership Meeting add statement - Audit results will be reported to the board of directors and general membership. Proposed By Law Change Article V. Duties of Officers Section 3. Treasurer To Be Voted On Sunday March 21st General Membership Meeting (Portion of Interest) The Treasurer, with input from the President and all Committee chairs, will prepare an annual budget. The budget will be presented to Board of Directors' on or before the March meeting. Based on discussions at that meeting the Treasurer will finalize the annual budget and the President will present the final annual budget to the membership for approval on or before the March General Members Meeting. The Board will not approve or authorize extraordinary expenditures until the annual budget has been approved. If the Treasurer fails to prepare a proposed budget or if the President fails to present the proposed budget or if the Board of Directors fails to recommend the proposed budget, the budget last approved by the Board of Directors shall be the budget adopted subject to the amendment by the Board of Directors. Submitted at Dec 2009 General Membership Meeting change procedure to be - The Annual Budget process should begin at the Sept General Membership Meeting, with a presentation of the final budget at the Dec General Membership Meeting for Approval. DGSC League Announcements: Debra Fredrick is looking to get a list of shooters that would be interested in a 400 Bird All Event League. A shooter would complete 4 rounds of Trap, 4 rounds of Skeet, 4 rounds of 5 Stand, and 1 round of Sporting Clays over the course of about 5 to 6 weeks. We are estimating about $20 to join the league and having a lunch/dinner at the completion of the league where prizes will be given out. As has been done in the past with the other leagues you are able to shoot the events whenever you are at the club, obviously for the Trap and 5 Stand events your puller will keep score, but for Skeet and Sporting Clays we will go on the honor system. For the next month we will be getting a list together of who would like to enter the 400 Bird All Event League if there is enough of an interest the league will begin end of March/Early April. Please either sign up at the club, or contact Debra Fredrick if your interested in that league. Another separate league coming up is the Tuesday only Trap/Skeet League. Larry White is heading this league, it can only be shot on Tuesdays. If you d like more information on this league please contact Larry White.
