Both Kid s Discovery Camps filled up by the end of May, and have waiting lists. Charlie s Junior Golf programs have been incredibly well attended.

Membership has been outstanding this year, with a net gain of 29 members.

Thanks to all those who made our Spring & Early Summer events spectacular at Saugahatchee Spring Handicap, Easter Brunch, Member-Member Tournament, Mother s Day Brunch, Member-Guest Tournament, Member Party, Casino Night, Memorial Day Tournament, and many other activities. 11:00 am - 1:30 pm $ Adult Kids 12 and Under eat free *limit of 2 free kids per adult* Come enjoy YOUR CLUB at its BEST this summer! Please take time to enjoy it with your family and friends this summer! Junior programs at Saugahatchee are in high demand. Both Kid s Discovery Camps filled up by the end of May, and have waiting lists. Charlie s Junior Golf programs have been incredibly well attended. Mike Voyles Junior Tennis programs have always been in high demand. Our Movie Nights are perfect for kids under 12. Thanks for your support of our junior programs! Membership has been outstanding this year, with a net gain of 29 members. Saugahatchee has developed several niches- retirees moving to the area, young competitive golfers looking for a new challenge, families looking for a private club pool, residents living in Saugahatchee s surrounding neighborhoods, and young families looking for Club activities and amenities. 46% of our new members in the last 18 months have been in their 20s or 30s! Of course, our greatest source of new members is YOU! When you refer a friend to Saugahatchee, we consider it the highest compliment you can give us. You can also take advantage of our DOUBLE REFFERAL PROGRAM through the end of August! The new member gets a $300 credit to their Club account, and you get $300 also! Your $300 is non-transferrable, SO YOU HAVE TO SPEND IT! We appreciate those who have already referred their friends! Thank you! The Club is having another solid year financially. Saugahatchee Country Club belongs to its members and, its membership is what makes the club great, above all else. Our committee has again reached out to Chris Hartwiger, USGA agronomist, and we plan on having Chris visit our golf course for another consecutive year. Mr. Hartwiger s advice and counsel has proved instrumental in the past and we plan on continuing to improve our golf course with the aid of his expertise and knowledge. Wisdom Chairman, SCC Greens Committee After a very busy and successful spring tournament season we are settling into regular maintenance on the course. We will be getting back to our basic cultural practices on the course. Topdressing greens every Monday, venting the greens every three to four weeks, spraying tees and fairways every three weeks and many other cultural practices now that we are not prepping for tournaments. Also, during this time we have limited the amount of fertilizer on the greens to insure a limited amount of growth during these events. We will be applying fertilizer to the greens now that will help with the recovery of old cup holes from the winter and other weak areas. We will continue to repair weak areas with fertilizer or sod as needed. Many of these areas showed up from the extreme drought of last summer and fall. The turf was in stress going into the winter, and there just wasn t as much grass to come back in some areas (humps/mounds/high traffic areas). As always, the goal of the maintenance staff is to provide the highest of quality playing conditions for you, the member. Thank you for repairing ball markers, filling divots, and raking bunkers, this all makes a difference out on the course. That being said, I am going to share a recipe that is as Alabama as Fried Green Tomatoes. Different styles and techniques are definitive of the various regions. Memphis Style is usually a dry rub and slow smoke. Kansas City is a sweet & sticky tomato base. Carolina BBQ is usually a spicy & vinegary mustard base. Texas Style BBQ is sweet & spicy. Obviously, there are limitless options, but they all have one thing in common, Keep it low & slow (cook slow, on low heat). Finally, another variety of BBQ that comes from Northern Alabama & has proven to be fairly popular on our Dinner Menu is White BBQ Sauce. 2 cups Mayo 1 cup Cider Vinegar 2 tbsp Lemon Juice 2 tbsp Black Pepper Salt to Taste Cayenne Pepper to Taste Mix all ingredients thoroughly. For even better taste, use fresh lemons & cracked black pepper. My favorite meat to use with this sauce is Chicken & Shrimp. 6 SMOKE SIGNAL
