A LETTER FROM TIM PIERCE GENERAL MANAGER Sunday Brunch Dear SCC Members, Happy New Year! Thank you for making 2016 a great year at Saugahatchee!

By the time you read this, the upstairs renovation of the Dining, Bar, and Magnolia Rooms will be underway.

We will continue to offer the full menu downstairs, but hope to entice our diners to enjoy the newly renovated and redesigned upstairs bar and dining rooms.

3 A LETTER FROM TIM PIERCE GENERAL MANAGER Sunday Brunch Dear SCC Members, Happy New Year! Thank you for making 2016 a great year at Saugahatchee! We ve accomplished a lot, and will continue to work in 2017 to make Saugahatchee the premier Private Club in East Alabama. By the time you read this, the upstairs renovation of the Dining, Bar, and Magnolia Rooms will be underway. This will provide a more casual touch, while maintaining the Saugahatchee charm you have enjoyed for many years. We will continue to offer the full menu downstairs, but hope to entice our diners to enjoy the newly renovated and redesigned upstairs bar and dining rooms. This should allow us to provide more organized and efficient dinner service, while providing better restroom facilities as opposed to using the men s and women s locker rooms, and allowing the 19th hole to be a place golfers may rehash the great (and not so great) shots of the day. We have additional projects on the horizon that will be funded as funds come available from the capital fundraising campaign. The Board has compiled a list of needed projects, and obtained estimates on most. We welcome your questions, interest, and support of this endeavor. Of all the committees at the Club, the Social Committee will surely be the most fun! This committee is being formed to help plan activities and events at the Club. Whether it s a suggestion to improve existing social events, or a completely new concept, we are putting the committee together now, so contact Mary to sign up! We will continue to operate the Club with a high priority on fiscal responsibility. We have seen cash flow improve over the last several years, allowing us to reallocate funds to improve member products and services in other areas, as opposed to using it to fund overhead. Thanks to the current Board of Directors who work MUCH harder than most people realize, investing personal time and expertise, striving to make Saugahatchee the best it can be. Thanks to Board members and their families for your dedication to Saugahatchee! Special thanks also to our management staff who serve a vital role in running the Club on a daily basis Charlie Richardson, Robin Frantz, Steve Robinson, Harry Greenlee, Betty Riley, Trey Dorsey, Jamica Thomas, Arnold Frantz, Tommy Minor, Mike Voyles, Mary Isbell, and Chris Hollis. 4 SAUGAHATCHEE COUNTRY CLUB FROM THE GREEN COMMITTEE Winter Greens Cover Procedures When the temperature is predicted to fall below 27 the greens will be covered. If the following day s high is not above 50 and the predicted night time low is again going to be in the upper 20 s, the greens will remain covered. Covering greens takes about 4 hours; play may be disrupted the day of covering. This policy will ensure that we are providing the best possible winter protection for our greens. Winter Pin Placements During the Winter months, we will attempt to use the most reasonable placements on the greens. Some of the greens have few of these placements when the greens are this quick. Also, we must remember the wear factor on the turf when using the same placement time after time. We will manage these pin placements during this time to provide a fair golfing experience, while maintaining turfgrass quality. Summer/Fall Drought Due to the extreme lack of rainfall during late Summer/Fall, there is always the possibility of damage to the turfgrass. Especially in the areas that receive little or no irrigation, this will also include any mounds, new sod and steep slopes. The type of Winter (extreme cold) we have could also impact the amount of damage to these areas. Course Projects The excavation of the silt in the pond between 1/18 has been completed. We will be shaping and planting grass on the area behind #17 green. Also, the silt was excavated from the irrigation pond to the right of #14 green. The approach on #18 was raised to help with the ball rolling off the green. The change should help with ball being putted off the green and shots that land on the false front of the green and would roll back down the hill. Bunker liners have been installed in almost all the bunkers (#7 remaining). The liners will reduce our labor costs of maintaining the bunkers and it will also reduce contamination in the sand. Diced Tomatoes ½ cup Tomato Paste 1 tbsp Beef Base 2 Medium Potatoes 3 Bay Leaves 5 Way Frozen Vegetables 4 Cups Water 1 tsp Garlic Salt 1 tbsp Vegetable Oil Dash of Cayenne Pepper Cut meat into small, bite size pieces. Sauté meat in vegetable oil in a large pot. Add browned beef in water, beef base, potatoes, bay leaves, tomato paste and garlic salt. Bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, until beef is tender (about one hour). Add a dash of cayenne pepper and serve with hot sauce or cornbread muffins. 5 SMOKE SIGNAL
