Player Development and Foundation Operations Manager Tournaments, Education & Meeting Opportunities Legal Sense Thoughts and Prayers In Case You Missed It Follow CPGA STAY CONNECTED WITH THE CPGA The team of Charles Frost, PGA and Tommy Gibson, representing Old Town Club in Winston- Salem, NC won the 2016 E-Z-GO Carolinas PGA Pro-Pro Championship Presented by Ahead, Global Golf Sales, Stitch Golf, and Tifosi Optics held in historic Pinehurst, NC. Frost, Old Town s PGA Head Professional, and Gibson, an Apprentice Assistant Professional, posted rounds of = 196 (-19) to finish tied with Jeff Avant, the PGA Head Professional at Rolling Hills CC in Monroe, NC, and Larry George, the PGA Head Professional at River Landing CC in Wallace, NC. That duo earned scores of = 196 (-19). Three formats were used for the 54-hole championship on three courses each day. Both teams happen to have been assigned the same rotation: - Mid South Club / / Captain's Choice - Pinehurst CC No. 2 / / Four-Ball Stroke Play (better ball) - Pinewild CC of Pinehurst (Holly) / / Modified Alternate Shot The duo played four playoff holes at Pinehurst CC No. 2 using a loop of Holes #18, 1, and 17 where they tied each hole. After the second time through #18, it was determined that there was not enough daylight left to play another full hole. The competitors were taken to 140 yards out on the 18th fairway. Avant and George both bogeyed, and Gibson made a two-foot putt for par and the victory. (L-R) Champions Tommy Gibson & Charles Frost, PGA CONTACT US In the senior contest, Donald Padgett, a PGA Life Member and former President and COO of Pinehurst Resort & CC, with Ed Sabo, also a PGA Life Member, were impressive. With rounds of = 193 (-22), they finished eight strokes ahead of Ron Schmid, a PGA Life Member, and Karl Kimball, the PGA Director of Golf at Hillandale GC in Durham, NC who recorded scores of = 201 (-14). On the afternoon prior to the tournament, Global Golf Sales conducted its seasonending Par-3 Challenge on Pinewild CC of Pinehurst s par-3 Azalea course. The majority of the field qualified through meeting/education attendance, volunteering, growth of the game activities, committee involvement, and tournament participation. The purse was $10,000 with $9,000 being dedicated to skins on each hole with no carryovers. Results can be found here. The mission of the Carolinas PGA Special Awards Committee is to ascertain the most eligible winners in each of the annually awarded categories, which is accomplished by an enthusiastic commitment from each committee member afforded the responsibility of identifying and recognizing his or her peers as exceptional. With over 230 nominations this year, only 10 are selected by the Committee to receive these honors. Carolinas PGA Section Grows with Addition of Player Development & Foundation Operations Manager Position Christopher Gaines, PGA to Assume New Role READ FULL RELEASE - The Carolinas PGA Section is proud to announce the promotion of staff member and PGA Professional Christopher Gaines to Player Development and Foundation Operations Manager. Gaines previously assumed the role of resident Tournament Official at Carolinas PGA Headquarters. The Player Development and Foundation Operations Manager position was recently established by the Carolinas PGA Section and Carolinas PGA REACH Foundation in their need to find an individual with the ability to develop and grow the programs and initiatives of the Carolinas PGA REACH Foundation. Gaines will be responsible for the planning and execution of all player development programming, including youth golf initiatives, as well as managing current funding resources of the Foundation. In addition to member development and volunteer recruitment for all player development initiatives, the bulk of his responsibilities will include the implementation of Foundation programs to include youth, diversity & inclusion and military (PGA HOPE) initiatives (including 2017 PGA Championship foundation initiatives at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte), the management of day-to-day operations for the Carolinas PGA Junior League Golf program, and, in cooperation with the PGA of America, USGA and Augusta National Golf Club, management of the day-to-day operations of the Section s Drive, Chip & Putt Championship local, sub-regional and regional competitions. Chris has been part of the Carolinas PGA Section team for nearly a year and officially assumed his new role on December 1, 2016.

6 Thoughts & Prayers The Carolinas PGA mourns the loss of David K. Philo, PGA Life Member, 76, who passed away at home on November 30. A lifetime member of the PGA and a 50-year member of Wilson Staff equipment company, Philo dabbled in PGA Tour, Champions Tour and South Carolinas PGA Tour events. He competed in two PGA Tour events in Among his many accolades, he also won the Carolinas PGA Senior Player of the Year award six times.

A funeral and memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 10 at the Holy Cross Faith Memorial Church in Pawleys Island.
