1 F EBRUARY Taberna Way! New Bern, NC 28562! ! Welcome to the Newest Member Of Our Food and Beverage Team! Mike Lynch grew up outside of Philadelphia, PA, in Norristown. He started his culinary career in high school as a line cook and graduated with honors in the Culinary Arts. Mike then worked for 18 years as executive chef and banquet manager for an off-premise catering company, Grand Buffets. Mike headed up a great asset to the business a catering division that served as a mobile buffet for various events, from elaborate weddings, showers, birthday parties to tailgate parties at the Philadelphia Eagles home games for Eagles radio broadcast and their contributors. Grand Buffets was also contracted with the Grand Lodge of PA and catered events and meetings for the various Masonic Lodges as well as the LuLu Temple Shriners in Plymouth Meeting, PA. In 1998, Mike married the love of his life, Brooke, and is blessed with five beautiful children and two grandchildren. In 2012, Mike moved into the corporate side of the culinary business in healthcare, working in management for Lintons Managed Services, where he served up to 2,000 meals a day to senior care centers, rehabilitation centers and small hospitals. Mike assumed the position of Executive Chef in 2014 with Sodexo, in the hospital division, where he trained and supported culinary staff. In this position, he started traveling throughout Pennsylvania as well as WV, TN and the great state of NC. He spent most of his time in Greensboro, where he was able to travel throughout the state. He fell in love with the beauty of the state and all it has to offer. Most recently, Mike has been the Executive Chef at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC, which enabled him to make a move to our wonderful New Bern. Mike is a Tabernian and loves our community; he is very excited to be able to serve his neighbors and friends as manager of our food and beverage team. Team Taberna plans to use his experience, versatility, creativity and executive management skills to increase the efficiency in the kitchen, develop relationships with local food providers, and to modernize our menu offerings (while keeping your favorites!). He and Aundra, our sous chef, will make a great team and have already put their heads together on some upcoming events. We know our members will make Mike feel welcome; please take the time to say hi when you get a chance. Meet Mike!!! Wednesday, February 28 from 5:30-7. Meet Mike as he will introduce three new lunch entrees and three new dinner entrees for our members to sample. Reservations are limited to 40 people $19.95 per person (food only). Our first series of wellness speakers was a success, with a variety of members attending complimentary seminars hosted by Peggy Barnes, Brooke Smith and Dr. Axelson. 2018 TMGA TABERNA GOLF LEAGUE NEWS MARK FARLEY Well it s almost time to get off the couch and limber up! The start of the 2018 season is only a month away.

4 2018 TMGA TABERNA GOLF LEAGUE NEWS MARK FARLEY Well it s almost time to get off the couch and limber up! The start of the 2018 season is only a month away. On March 7th, we will have our first event, a Modified Scramble with a lunch to follow. The TMGA tournament chair, Mel Walczak, has been working hard planning this year s events. Mel with the assistance of Larry Narolis will have the calendar available on the Golf Genius TMGA portal before the start of the season. This year we expect to present the members 36 weekly events, and at least three lunches and a yearend dinner. We ask that you submit your dues by March 1st, Your check may be presented to any of the TMGA officers or left at the pro shop desk. The dues remain the same at $50.00 With the start of the golf season we wish to welcome Kraig Butler back to Taberna as our Golf Professional. There may be more than a few of us who could use his guidance with our swings. Kraig s knowledge of running events will also be very much appreciated. We regret the untimely loss of fellow member, William (Bill) Cheesman. We will miss his friendship and support. Our prayers go to him and his family. Please also keep Dale Swan in your thoughts and prayers as he faces a major medical issue. Lastly, the golf course last year rebounded to the best conditions it has seen in years. This is a direct result of management involvement and the maintenance staff. We ask every golfer to respect the course and help maintain the conditions. ooooooooooooooooooo TWGA 18-HOLE GROUP JULIE JONES This winter has not been what we had all hoped it would be word was that a weak La Niña pattern promised a mild, warm, dry winter in our area. Hah was that ever wrong! Now that the long, frigid month of January is past and February has arrived, we re hoping for an early, sunny and warm Spring, so that we may get out on the golf course and start playing golf and having fun in earnest... soon! The Tuesday 18-hole league will start this year on Tuesday, March 13th. The Saturday 18-holers will start their season on Saturday, March 24th, since the Opening Day Tournament is slated for Saturday, March 17th. The season will run until November 13th (Tuesday) and November 17th (Saturday). Betty Rovins and Debbie Walczak are the group leaders for the Tuesday league again this season and Lisa Durante is once again the leader for Saturday. The season s first tournament, the 11th Annual Chili Bowl Tournament, will be held on Saturday, February 17th, with a 10:00 shotgun start. You may sign up in the pro shop or online through the Golfgenius portal (entry fee is $25.00 a person). The format is a four-person Captain s Choice (ABCD) pairings. Registration for the Chili Bowl closes on February 14th. It s really a fun time and will be so good to get out and play golf and get together with good friends again! ooooooooooooooooooo

Taberna resident and Club member, Jason Raper, volunteered months ago to lead an effort to refresh our dining room furniture, but he is a very busy Marine dad of two and his schedule has been FULL! Last summer, he took a table (and two chairs) home. Here are photos of one of our current tables in the dining room: BEFORE AFTER Note the sharp, clean edges, the smooth sanding/refinishing/staining work, and the new paint on the legs of the table. He gave this table new life! Jason has volunteered to lead, manage and execute the facelift of our dining room furniture on Saturday February 24, starting at 10am - and working through the day, possibly also on Sunday, if needed. However, in order to do so, he needs at least 20 handy volunteers, who are willing to share their weekend of valuable time (and maybe even forego some golf) with him here at the Club - rain or shine. Open Men s Tennis Tuesday and Friday 9:00 AM 11:00 AM (Contact Howard Cochran ) FOR PRIVATE LESSONS AT ANY LEVEL BEGINNER TO ADVANCED, CONTACT RANDY BRIDGMAN There has been practically no tennis played with the extremely cold winter we ve been having this year. The courts have been adversely affected by the snow and ice; however, courts 1, 2 and 3 are now ready for play again! Now, all we need is warmer weather! YOGA Allison Pack (aka The Grey Yogini) offers Yoga on Mondays from 9:00 am 10:15 am and 6:00 pm 7:15 pm and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 am 10:15 am. Most classes in our area are at least $10, so, Taberna Wellness, Wellness Plus, or Full Golf members can receive up to $160 of instruction a month included in their membership dues a fantastic deal!
