1 NOVEMBER Taberna Way! New Bern, NC 28562! ! NOTES FROM THE PRO SHOP It was a pleasure to see so many members participating in this weekend s Fall Member-Member tournament. I witnessed many great shots and some very good scores. The winners of the Women s division were: Flight One: Debbie Walczak and Betty Rovins. Second place: Pat Baader and Sue Gordon. Flight Two: Barbara Herl and Jean Herscovici. Second place: Theresa Mueller and Nancy Gilliam. The Women's Playoff Winners were Debbie Walczak and Betty Rovins. The winners of the Men s division were: Flight One: Jay Mazzone and Bob Porter. Second place: Bruce Clark and Jesse Robinson Flight Two: Mike Miller and Dale Swan. Scott Bronstein Second place: Rick Nelson and Bryan Scoggins. Flight Three: Peter Dillon and Terrence Cormier. Second place: Bob Dellorfano and Craig Baader. The Men's Playoff Winners were: Peter Dillon and Terrence Cormier. Congratulations to all the winners! There remains one 2018 tournament, The Superintendent s Revenge, on November 17th. Please see me in the Pro Shop to sign up. This should be a lot of fun for all! I look forward to the 2019 Season. You may have noticed that the course is marked with many white circles out in the fairways. These are there to allow players to get free relief and to allow the course time to heal from Hurricane Florence. So please keep carts and play away from those areas for the foreseeable future. Thanks to all of who have stopped by to introduce yourself and say hi; I feel very welcomed. Let s continue to work together in making Taberna strong. Feel free to stop by anytime to chat. From the Course... Wade Faircloth III On the course, when the temperatures cool, the Bermuda grass growth slows, the crabgrass dies off, and the bent grass thrives. Work will start on drainage issues on both course and bunkers and will continue throughout the winter months, as we find more time between course maintenance tasks. Also scheduled is detail maintenance, such as pruning and edging in all areas. Over the winter months, the cart paths will also gradually be addressed. November is the month in which the first preemergent herbicide application takes place. We look forward to seeing everybody play in the Superintendent s Revenge; we will do our best to throw a few surprises on the course for you. Give thanks with a grateful heart"

3 UPCOMING EVENTS Please keep the dress code in mind for the Golf Course, Range & Clubhouse. Collared shirts and golf shorts or pants are required. Jeans, cutoffs, gym shorts and tee shirts are not allowed. Tennis shoes and golf shoes with soft spikes are appropriate.

4 TWGA 18 Holers Julie Jones News from the Golf Leagues TMGA Mel Walczak With the official 2018 golf season ending this coming week, we look forward to the upcoming holidays, yet hope we ll still be able to enjoy some decent golf weather over the winter. Last weekend, October 27th and 28th, Taberna had it s annual Member-Member Tournament. It was a fun weekend, starting with the social (Calcutta) on Friday evening. With two flights, there was a playoff between Flight A s team of Betty Rovins and Debbie Walczak and Flight B s team of Barbara Herl and Jean Herscovici. The overall winners were Betty Rovins and Debbie Walczak. Congratulations to all the winners nice going, ladies! By the way, welcome to Barbara and Jean, our new members this year great to have you here! This past Tuesday, we had our annual Ghosts & Goblins Tournament, with Judy Gilbert and Laura Serumgard as the tournament chairs thanks, Judy and Laura! The Ghosts won the match play tournament. That night, the G&G party to help celebrate the end of the season was at my house everyone was very animated and chatty and seemed to enjoy the evening. Please see photos below of the tournament and party (thanks, Sharon Krejcarek, for taking the pictures!) Betty and Debbie will be leaving their their two-year stint of being the Tuesday 18-Hole leaders. Thanks to both of you for setting up the games and pairings throughout this past rainy, super-hot and humid summer in North Carolina! We didn t get as much play as we wanted, but, you still had to plan for the rounds anyway. As the substitute writer for this month s newsletter, it is my pleasure to congratulate the winners of the Men s Fall Member/Member Golf Classic, Terry Cornier and Pete Dillon. Many thanks to our Golf Pro, Scot, our Chef, Mike and the entire staff at Taberna for their assistance during the event. Special note of thanks for Larry Narolis for all his work with the setup and scoring. The TMGA is preparing for its final competition for the Spring/Summer golf season of 2018 on October 31st. I am pleased to announce the TMGA members Larry Narolis and Bob Dellorfano will be heading up the Fall/Winter season for 2018/19. On November 6, the Men s Golf Association will hold their annual business meeting and dinner at which they will elect a new slate of officers to for Please consider serving on the Board. The year of 2018 shall be remembered for a harsh winter, one of the hottest months of June that was followed by the very wet month of July. Then, Florence came to visit and proved to be a most unwanted guest. Yet, through it all, we enjoyed some fantastic golf, thanks to the efforts of our Superintendent, Wade, and his incredible grounds crew. Many thanks to them for their extraordinary efforts. Through the generous actions of our golf community and the Hurricane Florence Relief Golf Tournament we were able to assist a number of our Taberna staff in their recovery from the hurricane. Many thanks to the TMGA for their support. Speaking of support, as always, during the month of November and the beginning of December, the Taberna golf community has had a Christmas Collection that is shared with the Taberna Staff as a sign of our appreciation for all of the work they do throughout the year to make our Club exceptional. We are beginning that collection now. I invite you to make gift in the form of cash or write a check to the TMGA so that monies can be counted and distributed before Christmas. The cash/check option assures that your entire gift can be counted as a bonus to our staff. If you choose to put your gift on your account, it would then be subject to all of the normal payroll taxes and would shrink in size. I hope all of you will count your blessings and be generous in your offering. Finally, I hope all of you enjoy a most blessed Thanksgiving with your family and friends and, as always please be mindful of those less fortunate during the holiday season.

5 TWGA Nine-Holers Regina Gemignani Brisk fall temps and sunshine allowed us to play all but one Tuesday in October. Our games included a best ball shamble and individual blitz, as well as two fun formats - 1,2,3 Cha Cha Cha and a team competition of Ghouls vs. Gremlins on Halloween Eve. Those sneaky Gremlins won by just three points. Sadly, two of our members moved away this month. Christie Doyle, our new member rep and long term TWGA member, moved to California and Marianne McMillan, a new member, moved to the Netherlands. We will miss both of these ladies and wish them well. Our regular season ends on November 13th but we hope if nice weather continues some of our ladies will get together informally to play on Tuesdays. For anyone interested, there is a sign up sheet in the locker room for our business meeting on 11/13 and another sign up for the annual Christmas party on 12/4. 6 TCC 2018 Member Member Photos It s difficult to get the members together for photos after the tournament has ended and the after-party has begun; however, Kathy Kszakmeister, TCC s Assistant Manager, managed to pull some folks together for a couple of quick photos! Fun times! FROM THE GREENS COMMITTEE... Members of the Green Committee along with Katie Shorter, General Manager, Wade Faircloth, Greens Superintendent and Scott Bronstein, Head Golf Professional, met on Tuesday afternoon, October 16, 2018 for their monthly meeting. This meeting took place after both Hurricanes Florence and Michael had passed through our area. We reviewed the impact of the storm damage on the course, the status of the continuing efforts to remove dead trees and large limbs and the ongoing cleanup efforts. Now that we are back playing on the golf course, Wade and his crew will focus on tree removal and cleanup in the non-playing areas of the course in addition to maintaining the course for member play. Scott, our new head professional is going to mark all GROUND UNDER RE- PAIR (G.U.R.) areas caused by the storm as well as areas on the course that are applicable. There are several areas on the course where the turf was underwater and saturated and now unplayable. These areas will be marked as well. The Greens Committee meets twice a month to install and move the traffic ropes and signage on the course to reduce wear patterns in the fairways. Numerous ropes have been broken, stakes have been destroyed and carts are being driven where they are not permitted. Please respect these areas and the course rules. Please follow the 90 degree rule: Stay on the cart path until you are parallel to your ball then exit the cart path and drive 90 degrees from the cart path to your ball. On your approach to the green, exit the fairway before the green poles and proceed on the cart path to the green. Taberna handicap flag holders should use the designated parking areas nearer the green and NOT be closer than 30 feet from any green. Please respect these rules and understand that this is for the good of the course. Treat the course as your own yard/property and the condition of Taberna will improve. Wreath Making Sunday, November 18th 2:00 5:00 pm Taberna neighbor, Lori Carlblom, is offering instruction in wreath making. Learn how to make three different style ribbon-based wreaths and finish one. Some supplies will be provided, but each wreath requires that you bring a list of supplies with you. A FEE OF $15.- COVERS BASIC SUPPLIES, AS WELL AS LIGHT FINGER FOOD AND MULLED WINE. Call Kathy at TCC to RSVP at , ext 6, or Kathy at kszakmeister@tabernacc.com.
