1 Name: Kiera Shaylin Floyd Age: 9 School: Laerskool Van riebeeck park (Kempton Park) Member at: Benoni country club Short history of Kiera Floyd and her golf accomplishments Kiera began playing golf at Benoni country club where Shelly her mother is the club tennis pro. Kiera began showing an interest in golf when she started going to the country club after school. Here she started to hit a few balls and putt around the practice green. The resident golf pro at the time spotted her and took her under his wing, whereupon she started to develop a real interest and ability for the game. Kiera continued under his tuition until Stix and stones golf academy started teaching at the country club she joined them and continued to grow her talent. Kiera started playing in the stix and stones Sunday golf days on short courses where she excelled. In June 2012 at the age of seven Kiera began playing competitively as part of the SA KIDS tour. Kiera s first official tournament was the Modderfontein open in the 7-8 year age group; here she finished a very respectable 3 rd after a 3 way play off for first was her inaugural year with SA KIDS and in any real form of competition, Kiera finished first in the order of merit and received the stroke play award for the best average. In 2013 Kiera began the SA KIDS tour playing in the 7-8 years age group, this no longer proved to be a challenge. Therefore we moved her up an age group to play the longer courses. Kiera moved up to the 9-10 years age group where she continued her winning ways and remained unbeaten throughout She has won over 20 tournaments in the SA kid s tour including the European and world qualifiers since she began playing competitively. Kiera also plays in the SA KIDS 18 hole events in the year age group, she has finished with very respectable positions and recently she won the age group at the Pecan wood open. Kiera won her first international tournament in 2013, on her first attempt at Longniddry golf course in Scotland. Competing in the prestigious US kid s international championship event. In august 2013 she finished first in her age group at the inaugural AFRICAN CHALLENGE in Bela Bela this was a US KIDS / SA KIDS, PGA sanctioned event.

2 Kiera finished the 2013 SA KIDS tour at the top of the order of merit. She also received awards for the highest points scored in her division and received the stroke average award. These were all in an age group above her own. Kiera was also awarded the prestigious PLAYER OF THE YEAR award for 2013 which covers all the female age groups. In 2014 kiera is continuing with the SA KIDS tour both in the 9-10 years age group and the year age group. In November 2013 Kiera was Ekhurleni girls team first pick / qualifier for the inter provincial team for the IPT finals in Klerksdorp. Here she competed competitively and played with the likes of Catherine Lau and Woo Ju Sun as she was Ekhurleni s first seed. Kiera also competes in the Ekhurleni junior league where she is fast becoming a force to reckon with both in the schools and interprovincial leagues. Ekhurleni golf union invited Kiera (9) and Casey Jarvis (10), to play in the SA OPEN PRO AM event at Glendower in a four ball with one of the professionals. Together they finished 3 rd overall and Kiera received the closest to the pin prize for the amateurs. In May 2014 Kiera became the BENONI COUNTRY CLUB LADIES champion at the age of 9. Our main goal for 2014 is to complete the SA KIDS tour and enter her in the US KIDS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS in august, at Pinehurst, North Carolina. Later in the year we hope to compete and retain her title in the US KIDS / SA KIDS Junior African challenge to be held in Bela Bela. This is fast becoming a major international junior event in South Africa.
