2 GENERAL MANAGER U P D A T E Dear Members, It is with great pleasure and honor that I have been chosen to serve as your Interim General Manager. I look forward to meeting each of you and want to thank Rachel O Neill, Club President, and the Board of Directors for their confidence in me; I promise I will do my best! Some members have asked about my background: I have had 25 years of private club management experience in clubs throughout Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia; my last 14 years was at Country Club of Maryland in Towson. Prior to my civilian career, I completed a 20-year career as a US Army Quartermaster officer. Since I am not one to let too much grass grow under my feet, the past few years I have been substitute teacher in Baltimore County Public Schools. My wife, Pat, and I have been married for 7 ½ years and have 8 grandchildren between us and one cute puppy called Murphy. My goal is to serve you, the member, your family, and guests with the highest quality products and services. We have a lot of work to do to meet (and exceed) your expectations. To that end, we are in the process of hiring new, experienced staff in the Clubhouse to complement those staff members who have served you well over the years. We do need your help! When planning to dine in the club, please call or go on line (preferably) to make a reservation. Making a reservation will go a long way to helping us achieve our goal to give you the best experience; we cannot accomplish it without your help. And finally, there is one operational change in the calendar you need to you about: The Clubhouse is closed on Tuesday nights for dinner and will be effective in September. This is a seasonal change as we head into fall and winter seasons. I am looking forward to streamlining the way we communicate with you to make it as efficient and effective as possible. Please use it as much as you can to let us know to expect you for dinner or for events. When we know you re coming, we can be prepared to give you the level of service you expect. reservations@hillendalecc.com Hillendale has adopted a new app to help us - improve our club communications, - event promotion, and - system of spreading information. When you download Clubster on your iphone or Android device, you will instantly have access to a private social network for Hillendale management and members. Check your to find your invitation to join and then download the app from your app store. Similarly, you can login to the website from a desktop computer. With Clubster we will be able to: - Post to Members in the form of news, events, and alerts - Send Push Notifications and s - Share links, videos, documents, and messages - Create Club groups (i.e. Ladies 3-hole, swim team parents, Book Club, etc.) for more direct communication - Access the event calendar Join us for a Clubster Launch Party on September, 8 or 14 starting at 6:00.

12 SUPERINTENDENT UPDATE BRAD NOVOTNY HEAD GREENS SUPERINDENT Hillendale Members, What an August it has been! It started with a terrible storm that brought many leaves, limbs, and trees down on the course. There are still signs of the damage that we re working on removing from the course, but Mother Nature has thrown a tough month our way. Along with the first storm, we ve received numerous heavy storms, one after the other, which has kept the ground saturated for an extended period of time. Such a large amount of moisture combined with heat causes an extreme amount of stress on the plants. There s a point where the roots deteriorate and can t support the needs of the plant and the grass will die. We ve seen some decline in wet areas on our fairways from this issue. The cooler drier weather we had last week has been beneficial, and we have seeded into these areas to promote faster recovery. We will continue to push the recovery on the impacted fairways while we have the ideal weather so everything will be recovered by the end of the season. September is one of our busiest months on the golf course. We sometimes have three outings a week making it challenging to keep up with preparing the course. My team always puts in their best effort to get the course in the best shape possible, and with some good weather, we ll have some enjoyable conditions to finish out 2017! He was a little tentative through the shot and slowed his body down which lead his arms to swing faster than his body and hit a little squirrely duck hook towards the trees on the left hand side,

13 GOLF UPDATE BRANDON GRECCO HEAD GOLF PRO M A T C H O F T H E C E N T U R Y Hole #6 ~ 395 Yards R.G. still has the honor on the tee after his incredible Par 4 on #5. The 6th hole is a challenging Par 4 with an uphill tee shot that can leave a semi-blind second shot to the green. R.G. stepped up first, picked his target and took a swing.. whoops! He was a little tentative through the shot and slowed his body down which lead his arms to swing faster than his body and hit a little squirrely duck hook towards the trees on the left hand side, dangerously close to the out of bounds markers! Next on the tee was Brandon. His play on #6 is to aim down the left side of the fairway from the right side of the tee and hit a nice fade back to the center of the fairway. He set up as usual, picked his spot and took a swing. The ball started down the left side perfectly and faded back to the center, leaving him with 125 yards for his 2nd shot from a perfect angle to a middle pin. R.G. was in a much different situation however; his ball was in bounds but was resting against a large branch that had been knocked down from the storms the previous week. Although the branch was fairly large, it was easily movable and R.G. was able to move the branch as a loose impediement under Rule 23: 23-1 Relief: Except when both the loose impediment and the ball lie in or touch the same hazard, any loose impediment may be removed without penalty. If the ball lies anywhere other than on the putting green and the removal of a loose impediemnt by the player causes the ball to move, Rule 18-2 applies. After carefully moving the branch, R.G. was able to play his 2nd shot to #6. He had to keep it low to avoid the branches in front of him. With 165 to the pin, he played a 6 iron in the back of his stance with a slightly hooded face to allow for the ball to come out low and running. He took a swing and executed the shot perfectly. The ball ran right through the trees and up on to the green leaving him a 20 foot birdie putt.incredible play from trouble! Next up was Brandon, from 125 yards he took dead aim with a pitching wedge, the ball never left the stick! He watched intently as the ball headed for the flag, it had a slight draw and landed just right of the flag, kicking left towards the cup. It stopped 12 inches from the putt! The birdie putt is good! Now at the green, it is up to R.G. to sink his 20 footer for an all-world birdie to tie. He had a downhill, left to right breaking putt. He picked his line, roughly a cup and a half outside left. Took a stroke and hit the putt. It just slid by on the high side, great effort! The match is all square going down the home stretch! Brandon Grecco 3 R.G. Hackett 4 Match is AS thru 6
