The energy level around the Club is contagious and we have many events this fall to keep the momentum going. Now is the time to reserve a date in our new wine room or book your holiday party before space fills up. Please review the list of upcoming events and remember to make your reservations early: First Friday Happy Hour Friday, October 7th Sake 101: Japanese Cuisine paired with Premium Sake Friday, October 14th Prospective Member Happy Hour & Hibernation Guest Day Friday, October 21st Kids Halloween Party & Hayride Night Friday, October 28th We will be hosting a Hibernation Guest Day coupled with a Prospective Member Happy Hour event at the Club on Friday, October 21st. Invite your friends out to play the course and spend the evening enjoying live music, complementary appetizers and happy hour drink specials. As mentioned many times, membership continues to be a major part of HCC s plans for future success. New members have between now and June 1, 2017 to make a decision to remain Members of the Club. As we all know business does not slow down until after the holiday season. Thanks for your ongoing support of our Membership Drive to 375!!!!! Jason Johnson has a few fun events left for this season as well: Brad s Revenge and the annual Turkey Shoot golf outing are coming up soon. If you have not visited the golf shop lately, Jason has an awesome display of latest fall fashion wear for you to check out. This is ideal for holiday shopping or a special gift for that big occasion at home or work. The Golf Shop has had a successful season and they look forward to finishing the season on a high note. Finally, as I reflect back on the summer, I have many Members and staff that I would like to thank. Thank you to all the Members that volunteered on a Committee or to help set up for an event. We appreciate you taking the time out of your day to help the Club! The summer staff, especially Katie Cox and the pool staff, did a tremendous job this season, as it was the best we ve had in years. The tennis team, headed by Jamie Peterson, has done an amazing job this season as well. The golf course has had a very good year, Brad Novotny and his staff really hit a homerun. Our Clubhouse staff has completed another busy season due to the hard work of Executive Chef Mark Cala & staff, Tina Lutzi-Regler, Gregg Morrison, Alex Marshall, and, newcomer, Shannon Welihan. This team has worked extremely hard and they deserve a lot of credit. I hope you are enjoying my weekly updates. 9 SUPERINTENDENT U P D A T E Brad Novotny Golf Course Superintendent bnovotny@hillendalecc.com Dear Hillendale Members, Although most of September remained warm and dry, we still had ideal weather for recovering some of the thin areas we had in the fairways. We are now able to have more control over the playing conditions on the greens. This summer, turf health was priority over the green speeds. With fewer weather related stress inputs, we re now able to impart some of the stresses that come with firm and fast greens. This month, after most of our events are finished, we will be bringing in contractors to DryJect the greens. This process helps improve the composition of the soil in the greens by injecting sand into the rootzone. There is very minimal disruption to the surface with this process and we will see a quick recovery. We will also be deep tining the greens to give the roots a channel to grow through during the fall. This will help set us up for another successful year in As you know, we restored the surface on the 15th tee. The grow-in is going very well and I don t foresee any issues with opening the tee for the end of the season. I appreciate your patience while we are making this improvement to the tee. The leaves that began falling last month are from the dry conditions we were experiencing. That will roll right into the normal leaf season. I m hoping for an early and quick drop of the leaves. Some days will be difficult to keep up with the leaves when they re coming down at a fast pace but we will be doing everything we can to keep the course clear. Finally, last month, we received a Dakota 440 Material Handler (pictured right) that was purchased with the money raised from the Dick Irvin Legacy Open. This is the piece of equipment that we will use to topdress fairways, fill bunkers, move mulch around the course, and many other jobs that use large quantities of materials. This will not only help playing conditions but it will increase our productivity with a lot of tasks we perform throughout the year. 10 NEW GOLF CARTS UPDATE On Thursday, September 15th, we received 60 new golf carts from ClubCar. These carts come equiped with the following new features: two usb ports four divit bottles new rain covers Member-Member Results state of the art batteries Not to mention that the carts are designed to go 36 holes on a single charge!! We look forward to the membership enjoying this new addition to the Club.
