Business at the Club has been spectacular. We just completed the Club s Annual Meeting and I am happy to report there are many positive takeaways from the meeting: Our new membership drive has produced 33 new families to join HCC; Our operating results for the first quarter were $94,000 better than budget; Membership remains our top priority - please consider inviting a friend to our upcoming Open House or Prospective Member Happy Hour; Our social/sporting calendars are packed with events for the entire family - get involved and enjoy; Consider hosting an event at HCC - we can do anything you need, please contact Renee Murphy and let us do all the work. Later this month over Memorial Day Weekend our pool facility will open, and we are very excited about kicking off the holiday on a positive note. We have revised the menu at the pool snack bar adding several new salads and healthy choices. We will also be adding a School s Out Party on the last day of school at the pool which will include a DJ and special buffet. Tennis is off to a good start and Matt has the courts open and ready for play. We have added some new furniture on the tennis deck area, so feel free to watch your friends play and enjoy a beverage of your choice. Please make your Mother s Day reservation as soon as possible. Mother s Day tends to be one of the busiest days of the year, and we want to accommodate as many Members as possible. Men s twilight golf kicks off this month as well. We always look forward to Wednesday evenings when the Club is packed and everyone is enjoying the camaraderie that takes place. Please grab a partner and sign up - you will have a great time. On June 5 th the Club will be hosting a wine dinner with Wes Hagen, the winemaker from Clos Pepe Estates. Please take a minute and look at the Clos Pepe website and view Wes s video at I had the pleasure of meeting Wes this winter during my Club Manager Convention. I attended the International Wine Society Workshop and Wes was a keynote speaker. Wes has a very unique approach to wine and his vision is unlike anyone I have ever met. He made a huge impression on me, and I hope after you meet him you will feel the same way. Regardless, the guy can flat out produce great wine. His pinots and chardonnays receive 93 points in the Wine Spectator and with Robert Parker. This is an event not to be missed. As we head into summer I am extremely excited about the direction the Club is heading. From my perspective, we have the right team in place, and everyone is working hard. Please continue to provide your feedback to me as well as the team. Your suggestions and recommendations will only continue to improve a very special Club. Enjoy the month of May and I look forward to seeing you often at the Club!! To date, the club has gained 33 New Members under the current promotion, and that number is growing daily. At the Annual Gabby Forte Meeting, the Executive Committee urged the membership to spread the good word about Hillendale, and I am doing the same. If you know anyone interested in membership please consider bringing them to the Prospective Member Happy Hour or the Open House. Both are great opportunities to expose a guest to the Hillendale culture. Don t forget about the internal promotion - if a member brings on a new Golf Member, their debt service is eliminated, and if they bring a second new Golf Member, they get a $1,000 dining credit! I look forward to an exciting spring with only good things continuing at Hillendale. See you at the Club! Membership Marketing Director gabby@hillendalecc.com Page 3

4 Clubhouse Updates Denim Policy & Club Rule Update For the past year, Hillendale Country Club has piloted a limited exception to the dress code to allow denim in certain areas of the Clubhouse. We are excited to announce that, based on the positive response from membership and the recommendation of management and the House and Committee, the Board of Governors has approved a denim exception to the House Rules and Regulations. Specifically: Denim consistent in color and in excellent condition (no rips, frays, or torn jeans) will be allowed in the Sandtrap Lounge, Tee Room, outdoor member patio and Overlook Lounge. On Pasta Night, denim will be permitted in all dining areas, including the Phoenix Grill and Favazza Ball Room. Denim is not allowed on the golf course, driving range, and short game areas at any time. The Club also will not allow denim to be worn for major Club functions (e.g., Easter, Mother's Day) which require more formal dress. The General Manager may extend additional denim exceptions for appropriate events and will publish such exceptions prior to the event date. We strongly believe this updated dress code strikes a balance between the cultural shift in country clubs and Hillendale's tradition of excellence and mission statement to be the premier family-oriented club. We are confident that this new dress code will continue to increase member usage of the Club, Member satisfaction, Member retention and new Member referrals. While we regularly evaluate new ways to foster the Club's evolution and growth, we also must adhere to the standards to which we have all agreed as part of our membership. To that end, we remind you of the following House Rules (see the House Rules and Regulations in the Hillendale Green Book for the full text): Children may not sit at the bar in the Sandtrap Lounge at any time. After 7:00 p.m., children under 16 are not permitted in the Sandtrap Lounge. Children of all ages are prohibited from running in the Clubhouse, or any other activity deemed to endanger their safety or the safety of other Members and their guests. Children also are prohibited from screaming in the Clubhouse, or any other activity deemed to disturb the peace of other Members or their guests. Gentlemen are not permitted to wear hats, caps, or visors in the Phoenix Grille, Tee Room, or the Blenheim Room. Members and guests may only wear shirts un-tucked if they are designed to be worn as such. These shirts are commonly referred to as Hawaiian or Aloha style shirts and typically have a straight, lower hem. We appreciate and thank you for your support in maintaining these standards. 10 Superintendent Update Hillendale Members, I m excited to say that spring has sprung!! Brad Novotny Greens Superintendent bnovotny@hillendalecc.com After the long tough winter, and a slow-starting spring, the course has finally come to life. A lot of our projects have been completed. You may have noticed all of the sod we have placed around the course and the completion of our cleanup of the winter tree damage. Behind 7 green has been seeded with the native fine fescues and we will begin seeing the establishment of that area soon. We are extremely excited for the May 10 Spring Swing. Our April aerification will be recovered, the weather is hopefully perfect, and this inaugural event is bound to be a hit! My staff and I are looking forward to presenting great conditions for our official opening day and we hope you enjoy all of the festivities! May can be an interesting month with the weather. I ve seen triple digit temperatures, and I ve seen extremely cold temperatures. This month usually sets the tone for the summer and we re prepared for whatever conditions Mother Nature sends our way. We re monitoring our soil temperatures and growth rates regularly to do our best to stay ahead of the Nitrates with numerous different practices including fertility applications, growth regulator use, and flushing of the soil. We are prepared to combat this issue as the conditions become more favorable. As always, please don t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or comments regarding our practices or conditions. All the best, Brad Don t forget to keep up with the state of the Golf Course through Brad s Blog on the HCC website under Superintendent Update or follow him on Twitter Page 10
