The staff did a great job servicing the membership. The music, dunk tank, holiday buffet, and tikki bar were all a hit. Our parking lot was near capacity in the afternoon. These are all positive signs and our new membership drive continues to bring new families to the Club. I hope you are enjoying the many wonderful activities we are offering. Please continue to support HCC and if you know friends that would be good members, introduce them to Gabby Forte, Membership Marketing Director, so she can highlight our current membership drive. So far this spring we have welcomed forty new families to the Club. All of our sporting activities are now in the summer mode, please read this entire newsletter for all the pertinent information about June s activities. Be sure to checkout our website, Facebook and weekly s. Brad Novotny and his staff have survived the frigid winter and they have our golf course in excellent shape. We are working hard to catch up from the delayed season start due to the cold winter. Thanks to Robbie Nelson, Carroll Tree Services, we removed many damaged trees from the golf course. The snow and ice caused severe damage to many pine trees this winter. The removal process on the 7 th hole turned out great. Matt Bilger has been working with Gabby Forte to update the membership weekly on the activities at tennis. Their efforts seem to be working as tennis has been packed, especially the children s programs. Having so many kids playing tennis will have a positive trickledown effect at the swimming pool and snack bar. In your travels try and spend some time on the tennis deck, enjoy a beverage from the snack bar and watch all the activities. Whether you play tennis or not it is very entertaining. Jason Johnson s team is now in place for the summer. The summer interns include students from Coastal Carolina, (add other schools). It is great to have a young staff that plans to be in the golf business for their careers. The experience they receive this summer will not only help them but will continue to benefit the Club in the future when these students return to college and than they tell all their friends how great it was working at Hillendale. Please take the time to get to know these folks, summer moves fast and we only have them for a short time. This month the Men s Invitational Golf Tournament and Lady s Member Guest will take center stage. These are two marquee events that many Members look forward to participating in every year. Not to mention the guests have a great time. We look forward to seeing you at the Club this month and please continue to offer your feedback. 3 Membership Update May was a fantastic month for Hillendale - not only in its Golf, Tennis, & Social Events, but also with Membership! The Spring Gabby Forte Membership Marketing Director Open House was a huge success - we had 15 families attend, and so gabby@hillendalecc.com far 3 of these have joined. With the six New Members, six Posted Candidates, and many more inquiring daily, Hillendale is obviously the place to be in the Summer! If you see any of these New Members at the Club, please be sure to introduce yourself and welcome them. I also wanted to take a moment to thank those members who have brought in friends or family to the Prospective Member Happy Hours and other events. This is the way that we best grow the Hillendale family! The Club is still eager to welcome New Members, so if you know of anyone interested in joining a club, please bring them to one of our great social events as your guest! And don t forget the ongoing internal promotion - if a Member brings on a New Member of the same or higher classification, the current Member s debt service disappears! On another note, I d like to congratulate those Members celebrating an Anniversary this month. The list is located at the bottom of this page. His wife, Cathy, is a proud mother of their two daughters, Becky, 13, and Mary Beth, 10. Matthew & Sharon Andrulot Social Matthew works as a Director of Asset Strategy at Hightower Advisors. His wife, Sharon, is a proud mother of their three children, Brady, 9, Campbell, 6, and Reese, 3. Ms. Helen Brooks Significant Other Helen is the Significant Other of John Mezzullo. She is the Vice President of PA Financial Services. David & Lynn Sutor Golf-1 The Sutors are re-joining Hillendale after a 9-year hiatus. 5 upcoming events Pilates Classes These classes are a challenging hour of power designed to strengthen and lengthen core muscles of the shoulders, abdominals and hips. High intensity intervals will add a cardio boost by getting the heart rate elevated. Lengthening exercises to improve back extension and range of motion through the shoulders and hips will be intertwined. 7 tennis update Matt Bilger What an incredible start we had to the tennis season! Our parent/ Director of Tennis child round robin saw 40+ families on the court in a funmbilger@hillendalecc.com filled Sunday at the courts!!! On Memorial Day we fill the courts all day long with our annual Round Robin and kid s clinics. If you didn t attend, you were missing out! So on to June... Saturday, June 7th we will be giving an Adult Free Beginner Clinic. If you ever wanted to try tennis with no fear of your level, and didn't want to "embarrass" yourself, this is for you! Come out and give it a try from 2:30p.m.-4:00p.m. and meet our AMAZING Tennis Staff!! On Friday, June the 13th, we will be having our first Karaoke Social and Round Robin beginning at 6:00p.m. Sing the night away while playing some entertaining doubles tennis. Babysitting clinic is available for your children while you enjoy this event. On Sunday, June 15th at 4:00 p.m, we will be doing another Sunday Junior FREE Swing for all kids. This has been a huge hit and is sure to fill up fast, so sign up early. Due to limited space, we can only accept the first 30 kids who register. On Monday, June 16th before the Schools Out Pool Party, we will be holding a Junior Clinic from 1:30p.m.3:00p.m. This is $18 for the kids to come out and enjoy some tennis and fun before jumping in the pool to cool off. Again, because space is limited, please register early. On Friday, June 27th at 6:00p.m., we will be doing one of our famous signature events: the Jamaican Me Crazy Round Robin, Man. Fun doubles, jerk chicken and rum runners, me with dreadlocks, and a steel drum band. What more need I say?!?! Yet again, a babysitting clinic is available for your children while you enjoy this event. Bar items are by signature. This fee allows your Au Pair to come to the pool without having guest fees charged to your account. As a reminder, a guest may accompany a member no more than eight times in a season to Hillendale s Pool. If you plan to sign up your Au Pair this summer, please contact Donna Wobbleton at ext:223 or dwobbleton@hillendalecc.com to have the form ed. Pool News SWIM LESSONS 10:00a.m. - 10:30a.m. Monday-Thursday for 2 consecutive weeks Cost: $70 Per Swimmer for 2 Week Session or $40 for 1 Week Included in this cost: 4 or 8 30-minute lessons, a progress report at the end of week one and a certificate upon the successful completion of the level at the end of week two. Swimmers will be grouped by ability level into classes of no more than 6 persons. They will work with an instructor to pass the level and be promoted to the next over a 4 or 8 lesson period. Swim lessons are terrific for younger swimmers who are not ready for the swim team or kids that would like to work on their swimming ability. Contact Katie Cox for more information or you may register at the Pool Office: (410) or via pool@hillendalecc.com Lesson Period Session 1- June 23-July 3 Session 2 July 7-July 17 Session 3 July Pool Guidelines to Remember: - Only certified Personal Flotation Devices will be permitted to be worn in all the pools and the pool area. - There will no longer be a lifeguard posted at the baby pool. - Children wearing approved swim diapers WILL be allowed in the lower pool (NOT the upper pool). - Per The Green Book, children under the age of 11 are not permitted to be unsupervised in the pool area (even if the parent is at tennis). Children age 13 and over are able to watch younger siblings. - All guests must be signed in at the front desk upon arrival. Any parties of 10 or more must be registered through Renee Murphy (rmurphy@hillendalecc.com) so that we can ensure we are properly staffed and prepared. - Lacrosse stick and RipStik use must be confined to the basketball court. - The lifeguards are working to keep all Members safe. Their directions should be heard and followed by everyone using the pool facility. - No food or drink may be brought to the pool. 10 Superintendent update Hillendale Members, The summer months have finally arrived! As we prepare the course for our busy season, I am working closely with our consultants to monitor our greens for any changes in growth habits related to the Nitrates in our soil. I feel confident this year, knowing what challenges we face, we will be able to stay in front of any issues that we might see. You may notice the drainage project we performed on 10 fairway. Although this time of the season isn t ideal to install drains, especially with standing water and saturated soils, it was necessary to improve the health of 10 for the rest of the season. It will take some time for the fairway to return to its initial condition but this will help us during saturated situations in the future. As the summer months continue and the temperatures increase, please follow my website updates to track the progress of the course, specifically the greens. I will continue to keep you informed through the season if any challenges appear and how we will resolve them. I update every Friday, so please take a look if you have any questions! 12 FRIDAY, JULY 4 TH FLAG TOURNAMENT Golf Events DOWN THE MIDDLE Golf News This is an event the golf shop runs every year in occasion with the 4th of July Holiday. It is quite different from any other tournament during the season, and it is a most interesting and entertaining one. There are no special tee times assigned or pairings to be made, you just sign up as you would normally for a tee time and play with whomever you wish. In order to retrieve the flags accurately, the last time eligible to participate will be 2:00 p.m. On the 4th of July, when you come out to play, just register in the Golf Shop for a flag for the tournament. The entry fee is $10 per person. There are both men's and women's divisions, and the way this event works is all players get par plus (+) their individual handicap. When that number of strokes is reached, the player plants the flag in the ground. The flags will be collected later that day, and the player whose flag goes the farthest is the winner. Men s Club Championship The Men s Club Championship is a single elimination match play event. Contestants who want to qualify for the 15 spots of the Championship Flight should sign up for the qualifying round to be played on Saturday, August 3rd. The Championship Flight will be decided by a final round 36 Hole Match.
