President's Letter Dear Members, It is that time of year again when you should have received your Board of Governor's slate of candidates for the February 2018 Governor elections.

4 President's Letter Dear Members, It is that time of year again when you should have received your Board of Governor's slate of candidates for the February 2018 Governor elections. This is a very important part of the governance process at any member-owned club as thoughtful leadership relies on members volunteering their expertise, in addition to a significant amount of time and effort. This year the Nominating Committee devised a much more inclusive and expanded search for the nomination of governors. Leading this effort was Malcolm Cunningham, Chairman of the Nominating Committee. I want to express my gratitude and thanks to Malcolm, for his leadership and hard work in instituting a new and expanded method of executing the Governor nomination process. The Nominating Committee for 2018 candidates communicated a notice to the entire club, via , that gave every interested member in our club and qualified under our by-laws, the opportunity to submit their names to the Nominating Committee for consideration. Twenty members (incumbents and new candidates) were given the opportunity to submit statements of qualification and resumes, followed by a thorough interview with the Committee. From the twenty candidates up for consideration, the Nominating Committee recommended to the Board ten candidates for nomination to the candidate slate. With four Governors having unexpired terms, and in consideration of the volume and quality of all candidates, the Board voted to increase the number of Governors for the next term from twelve to fourteen Governors. The increased number of Governors should serve to increase the diversity of thought and opinion on all matters of governance at Bear Lakes Country Club. With that statement in mind, many names that were not placed on the final slate of candidates have been asked and/or volunteered to serve on various Committees, insuring we have a steady backlog of Board candidates into the future. I would again like to thank Malcolm Cunningham and his Committee named below, on behalf of every member at Bear Lakes Country Club, for your time and effort at instituting and conducting a process that will hopefully be the template for all future Board of Governor Nominating Committees. What I am going to do is focus on what lies ahead will be a landmark year for Bear Lakes Country Club. We have a big project on the horizon. Much will happen between now and that day, but rest assured all attention will be placed on the Member experience and how we will do all we can to make you proud of your association with Bear Lakes Country Club. We are already in the planning process.permitting, approvals, picking furniture/fixtures, and the transition. PAGE 5 We will be serving 2018 Thanksgiving Dinner in a new Clubhouse. By February, you will start to see action and movement around the Club. You will see us getting ready for moving day. By the middle of March, we will be out of the existing Clubhouse.relocating to the tennis/pool area. If you haven t seen the artist s rendition of the new Clubhouse, you can go to the website or see the presentation boards located in the foyer. If you have any questions about what we are pursuing, please ask! I am happy to share the vision and details of the renovation project. Much attention is on the big prize. Rest assured, we will also focus on the smaller, yet significant details and day to day operations at Bear Lakes Country Club. As we evolve as a Club, please do not hesitate to share your ideas and vision. I am always available for a conversation.

17 01: MONTHLY UPDATE It is an exciting time here at Bear Lakes Country Club! As of March 2017, our Clubhouse will be going through a renovation. The renovation will provide members with a new and improved Clubhouse! Each month we will continue to update members throughout the process. Renovation Updates The Bear Lakes Site Plan has been approved by the City of West Palm Beach's Planning & Zoning Department. The new golf shop is being designed by B. Andrews, a national speciality designer for golf pro shops. The design of the new kitchen has been completed by DEI Kitchen Consultants. The Bear Lakes renovations plans are in for construction permit with the City of West Palm Beach Building Department. The Bear Lakes construction plans are out for bids by our General Contractor, Mouw Associates, to the subcontractor community. We are expecting to have pricing after the holidays.
