2 Ozark Empire Fair Springfield, Missouri SWINE 1. Exhibitors entering open classes in this division should familiarize themselves with the General Rules and Regulations, Livestock Entry Rules and Show Ring Code of Ethics before completing entry form. 2. Exhibitors entering junior classes should familiarize themselves with Junior Show Rules, General Rules, Livestock Entry Rules and Show Ring Code of Ethics before completing entry form. 3. Entry forms are available on our website or at the Ozark Empire Fair Office. Entry forms may be photocopied. Entry may also be made at 4. Registration and health papers must be in order as they will be checked against the information given on the entry form upon arrival on the Fairgrounds. Animals farrowed after January 1, 2017, may show with litter registration. 5. Junior Gilts are eligible to be shown in breed or commercial gilt classes as well as the Junior Market Hog class. Purebred gilts will need to present registration papers to qualify for breed classes. Gilts that either do not have registration papers or are crossbred will show in the Commercial Gilt class. If an exhibitor is interested in showing in both the Junior Market Hog and the Junior breed/ commercial gilt class an additional entry fee will be required. 6. Entries close June 15, and those mailed must be postmarked no later than midnight of this date. Late entries may be accepted through June 25. Entries postmarked after midnight June 15 and through midnight June 25 must be accompanied by the penalty fee as noted on the entry form, in addition to regular stall and admission fees. 7. All swine exhibitors must check with their superintendent before unloading. At this time entries and registrations will be checked. Entries and registrations must be complete before pens will be assigned. 8. No feed will be allowed in wash racks. 9. Ear notches must be legible. No scabby or fresh ear notches allowed. AGE REQUIREMENTS Swine December pigs - farrowed 12/1-12/31/2016 January pigs - farrowed 1/1-1/31/2017 Senior February pigs - farrowed 2/1-2/20/2017 Junior pigs - farrowed 2/21-3/10/2017 Junior March pigs - farrowed 3/11/2017 and after Barrows - farrowed on or after 1/1/2017 BREEDING SWINE DIVISIONS 1-10 Show: Junior Breeding Show, 8 am, Wednesday, Aug. 2 and Open Breeding (including Commercial Gilts and Boars) - 8 a.m., Thursday, August 3 Swine Exhibitor s Meeting: 2 p.m., Thursday, August 3 ARRIVAL: Breeding Swine must be in place by Noon, Tuesday, August 1. No arrival prior to 6 a.m., Tuesday, August 1. RELEASE: Stock will be released at 6 p.m. Thursday, August 3 and must be removed immediately from barn. SWINE DIVISIONS AND CLASSES: numbers are the same for all breeds. Mark entry form with the appropriate class number AND a division number. JUNIOR: Use class numbers listed in left-hand column. 3 Swine Ozark Empire Fair Springfield, Missouri JUNIOR MARKET HOG SHOW AND SALE DIVISION 12 Show: Following Junior Breeding Show, Wednesday, August 2 ARRIVAL: Junior Market Hogs must be in place by 9 a.m., Tuesday, August 1. No arrival prior to 6 a.m., Tuesday, August 1 RELEASE: Junior Market Hogs will be released at 6 p.m. Thursday, August 3. ELIGIBILITY 1. Barrows and gilts must have been farrowed on or after January 1, Hogs will be weighed at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, August 1 and must weigh between 225 and 290 pounds. A 5 lb. allowance will be made on weight. HOGS WILL BE WEIGHED ONE TIME ONLY. Underweight and overweight hogs will show in separate classes before judging of eligible hogs. Underweight and overweight hogs are not eligible for the Junior Market Hog Sale or to show for Champions. 3. An exhibitor may show four animals (can be barrows or gilts). Barrows CANNOT be shown in Open Barrow show. Gilts are also eligible to be shown in breed or commercial gilt classes. Only one entry per exhibitor is eligible for Market Hog Sale. 4. Exhibitor's parent or legal guardian must sign the official Fair entry form to certify that the exhibitor has owned and cared for animals since June 1, 2017 or before. Any entries determined invalid will be returned. No refund will be made. ENTRY DEADLINE: JUNE 15. SHOW 1. All barrows and gilts should be entered into Division 12 Y All barrows and gilts will show together by weight, rather than by breed. es will be broken after weigh-in into classes of equal size. 2. Under and Over classes - Ribbons only (no prize money). JUNIOR SWINE SHOWMANSHIP Following the show, Wednesday, August 2 1. es are open to all junior members eligible to compete in the Ozark Empire Fair Junior Show. 2. Participants must be entered and exhibiting at least one animal in this division. 3. Only barrows and gilts will be permitted in showmanship drive. Animal must be owned by exhibitor. 4. No pre-entry is required. No entry fee is required. OVER 21 SHOWMANSHIP CONTEST - Following Pee Wee Showmanship Contest. 1. This event, sponsored by the Big Hawg Club, is a fund-raising event for the 2017 Market Hog Sale. 2. Anyone 22 years of age and older may be nominated for the contest with a nomination fee of $ Anyone nominated, who does not want to participate in the contest, may opt out by paying $ Costumes, props and hogs will be provided. 5. Nominations will be taken day of show. Showmanship Show Order Ages as of July 1, Senior: ages 16 and older 2. Intermediate: ages Junior: ages 8 through 11 PEE WEE SHOWMANSHIP CONTEST manship on August 2 1. Any child 2-7 yrs. may compete, showing a young gilt. 2. Hog must have been entered in current Fair. 3. Each exhibitor will receive a prize. JR PREMIER EXHIBITOR & JR PREMIER BREEDER/EXHIBITOR A Junior Premier Exhibitor award will be presented to the junior swine exhibitor who accumulates the most points on no more than eight animals during the 2017 Junior Breeding Swine Show. Points can be earned by exhibiting boars and gilts in purebred and commercial classes. A Junior Premier Breeder and Exhibitor award will be presented to a swine exhibitor who accumulates the most points on no more than eight animals during the 2017 Junior Breeding Swine Show. Points can be earned by exhibiting boars and gilts in purebred and commercial classes. The exhibitor must be the breeder and exhibitor of the animals which points are awarded for. A banner will be presented to the recipients of the two awards. Both awards will use the same point scale: Place Point JUNIOR MARKET HOG SALE Sale: 7 p.m., Wednesday, August 2 BIG HAWG CLUB: The Big Hawg Club has been formed to promote the Junior Market Hog Sale. Family membership is $25 annually. Membership fees may be given to any Sales Committee member. All money contributed to the Big Hawg Club will be used to support the sale. However, the club will not purchase any hogs during the sale. Funds will be distributed as determined by the committee after the sale. 1. The top 25 Market Hogs will sell in a Premium Only Sale. 2. Grand and Reserve Grand Champion will be sold first with the remaining sale order determined by the judge. 3. Each exhibitor will be limited to one (1) animal in the sale. If two or more animals owned by one exhibitor qualify, the exhibitor may sell only one. The next highest ranking hog then qualifies for the sale. 4. This will be a "premium sale" (to allow youth to show their animal at other shows). All of the 25 top qualifying hogs must be in the sale. 5. "Premium sale" means that the buyer will pay only the premium bid at the auction. The youth retains full ownership of the animal. 6. Add-on money will be accepted as a contribution to an individual exhibitor or to be distributed to all animals in the sale. 7. The sale committee shall settle all disputes and decisions of the committee are final. The Junior Market Hog Sale is not affiliated with the Ozark Empire Fair. Interested contributors and participants should contact the Big Hawg Club for information regarding the sale. Please note: Exhibitors should have potential buyers & add-on's prior to the sale. The BHC will do all that it can to help the exhibitor contact contributors if needed.
