Entries must include exhibitor s name, complete address, social security number and entry fees. Entry blank need only list breed and number of animals exhibitor intends to show. You may enter online at Exhibitors should keep their exact login information (username/password). If entering under farm name, please utilize team/ company information line to list your farm name. All breeding exhibitors, whether you enter online or mail your entry, must provide required information by July 20, or pay additional $10 per entry at time of check-in at the fair. If entering online you may provide the information at that time. If information is not given at time of entry, then you must provide updated information by completing the online form, either the excel format, which must be ed, or the google form, which will automatically be forwarded to the Ohio State Fair Entry Department and to swinedept@expo.ohio.gov by the required date. Important: When submitting updated breeding information, if name of exhibitor is the same for both Junior and Open entries, please indicate that on the form. Information needed: Registration number, session, breed, donor/bred and owned, gender, sire, sire of dam, birthdate, and ear notch by July 20 or an additional $10 per entry will be charged. 4. Premiums will not be paid unless registration number of breeding animal is furnished. 5. All entries must be in the name of the actual owner or partnership. All animals must be owned by June 1. Animal must have been transferred to or registered in the name of the exhibitor at time of check-in. 6. Exhibitor s name on entry blank must be exactly the same as owner s name listed on registration papers. Variations in ownership would require separate entry. Partnership and family owned pedigree will be accepted. 7. All swine must be earmarked and earmarking recorded on their pedigree. 8. Animals in all classes must be individually recorded in the recognized American or National Record Association for that particular breed. To be a recognized association a record association must be established and recognized as such by the National Association of Swine records. Individual registration papers are mandatory at check-in, no fax copies. 9. All exhibitors are asked to feed animals in pens. 10. All pens must be cleaned each day before 8:00 a.m. 11. All Champion Open Boars and Gilts must sell, if a breed sale is offered. Any Champion or Reserve Champion Junior Fair Gilt may sell; 3rd or 4th in the Breed Sale unless an original Donor Gilt. 12. Anyone showing boars must be of high school age or have written parent consent at check-in. Must have individual registration papers for each animal. Registration papers replaces the old entry card system, therefore, it is mandatory to have registration papers at check-in, no fax copies will be accepted. Breed Association representatives will check registration papers and the Swine Management will assemble the classes. There is no limit to entries made, number of animals shown, or the number of premiums won by an exhibitor in any Open Breeding Swine Classes, exception: 6 Youth Jackpot Gilts (Division 1615) 2. Purebred breeding swine and Youth Jackpot Gilt sales, participants must provide a health certificate. 3. Exhibitors must carry registration papers along with exhibitor s card, in each class at the time of showing. Animals will be subject to checking identification to match with registration papers at the time of show. Any animals exhibited and not properly identified shall be barred from the show. 2

3 DEFINITION OF AGES FOR BREEDING CLASSES All animals must be farrowed on or after December 1, Grand Champion any age, 1st place animals. Reserve Grand Champion any age. The animals standing second in class to the Grand Champion are eligible to show for Reserve Grand Champion. BREED DISPLAYS Breed associations may erect a breed exhibit display. However, no premium money will be paid for exhibits. The Swine Department management will designate space for Breed Booth Displays. PUREBRED BREEDING SWINE SALES First Session Breed Sales Berkshire, Chester White, Hereford, Poland China, Spotted and Tamworth swine breeds will conduct a breeding swine sale following their breed shows. Approximately one (1) hour after last show. Individual health papers and registration papers for these sale animals will be collected at check-in time. All 1st; 2nd; and 3rd place gilts must sell. All 1st and 2nd place boars must sell. Hereford and Tamworth may be nominated for this sale and a $10 fee will be collected. Guidelines are listed in the breed section of the exhibitor's information. Second Session Breed Sales The Duroc breed will conduct a sale of their breeding swine following the open class swine shows. The Yorkshire and Hampshire breeds will hold a combined sale of their breeding stock following their open class swine shows. Guidelines are listed in the breed section of the exhibitor's information. CLASS SIZE BREAKDOWN Gilt classes will be divided by a maximum of 12 head per class plus or minus three (3) head. All classes will show youngest to oldest. Boar classes will be divided by a maximum of six (6) head per class plus or minus two (2) head. All classes will show youngest to oldest. OHIO CHESTER WHITE BREEDER'S SALE After The Show Only those animals which actually sell may be released immediately following the sale. All others must remain on exhibition until the official breed release time. Violation of this procedure will result in forfeiture of premiums and possible loss of eligibility for showing at future Ohio State Fairs. The Ohio Chester White Association will hold a sale of Berkshire, Chester White, Hereford, Spot, Tamworth and Poland China boars and gilts in the Swine Arena after the show on Friday,July 28. All sale entries must be entered and shown in Junior or Open Class Show. Out of state exhibitors are eligible. Hereford and Tamworth can be nominated for $10 fee. Berkshire, Chester White, Poland China are not automatically in the sale. May also be nominated for a $10 fee. Approximately 20 boars and 50 gilts will be sold. All hogs sold in the sale will be released immediately after the sale. All champion and reserve champion open boars and gilts must sell. All hogs sold in the sale will be released immediately after the sale. Sale animals and order will be made by sale committee and judge. Sale commission, payable to the Ohio Duroc Breeders Association, will be deducted from selling price. All Champion Open Boars and Gilts must sell. All sale entries must be entered and shown in Junior or Open Class Show. Out of state exhibitors are eligible. Individual health papers and registration papers for these animals will be collected in the show arena after the class is placed. The judge and swine managment will determine which and how many animals will be included in the sale from each class. All champion open boars and gilts must sell. A sale expense of 15% will be deducted from the selling price. 1% of the total sale will be donated to the Buckeye Barrow Boosters. All animals must be paid for in full, on sale day, or animal will remain in the possession of the seller until full payment is received by the secretary.. PREMIER BUCKEYE EXHIBITOR In honor of Charles (Chuck) Andrews this award shall be presented by the Ohio Hampshire Breeders Association to the exhibitor from the state of Ohio who accumulates the most premium dollars. Award will be presented just before the beginning of the sale. EXHIBITION INFORMATION Individual registration papers are mandatory and must be turned in to the swine office by 10:00 p.m., Saturday, July 29, when checking in, to be eligible to exhibit. OHA annual meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m., Sunday, July 30, in the dorm meeting room. A representative from each firm is asked to be present with proper information to facilitate this procedure. Recipients must be a member of the Ohio Landrace Breeders Association and dues must be paid prior to the start of the show. The Ohio Landrace Association requires that the Grand and Reserve Champion gilts and boars participate in the NSR sale at the 2017 Ohio State Fair. An annual meeting of the Ohio Landrace Breeders' Association will be held in the swine barn prior to the Open Class Landrace Show. The Ohio Landrace Breeders Association requests that all exhibitors of Landrace hogs at the Ohio State Fair please pay their annual Ohio Landrace Breeders Association membership dues to the Secretary/Treasurer of the association before the exhibitor participates in the Ohio State Fair Landrace Show. CLASS BREAKDOWN PROCEDURE A maximum of six (6) head of market barrows, including open youth gilts, may be entered. It is mandatory all purebred barrows have individual registration papers at weigh and check-in. All barrows must be owned by June 1, All open class barrows should be entered in 1612, class 001. All barrows will be divided into classes after weighin, on Wednesday, August 2. Dark / light any breed exhibiting less than 12 animals will be combined with the next smallest breed. All purebred barrows and crossbred barrows will then be placed in classes with a maximum of 16 head per class. 8

9 Example: 16 and under 1 class 17 and up 2 classes Premiums per class will be paid on a jackpot basis: 1st place - $2 per animal shown in class; 2nd place - $1 per animal shown in class. ORDER OF SHOWING Dark - Other Light Crossbred Duroc - Yorkshire Berkshire - Chester White Poland China - Hampshire Landrace - Spotted Tamworth - Hereford Judges will disqualify barrows showing evidence of late castration, cryptorchidism, or serious structural defects, regardless of the apparent muscling or degree of finish shown. After weigh-in judging sheets and programs will be printed listing each of the exhibitors barrows placed in the proper breed and weight class. Registration papers and breed standards are required for purebred classes. Registration papers are mandatory at weigh and check-in. Exhibitors must use water only on barrows when grooming for show. No oil or what appears to be oil or powder will be permitted. All barrows must have a measurable 1/2" of body hair, underline included. Ears and tails may be a shorter length. DIVISION 1612 BARROWS ENTER ALL (Purebred and Crossbred) BARROWS IN CLASS 001. Each exhibitor need only indicate on their entry form the total number of barrows they are entering in the Open Barrow Show. Exhibitors are limited to entering and showing a maximum of six (6) barrows, including any Youth Jackpot Gilts. CHAMPIONSHIP Grand Champion Barrow Reserve Grand Champion Barrow $200 $100 The Ohio Berkshire Association will present $50 to the owner of the Grand Champion barrow at the Ohio State Fair providing it is a Berkshire with both sire and dam recorded in the Berkshire Association and if a picture and story are supplied. The American Berkshire Association, P.O. Box 2436, West Lafayette, Indiana offers a plaque to the overall Grand Champion Barrow if the animal is from a recorded Berkshire litter and the Association is supplied a photo and story within 30 days of the show. The Chester White Swine Record Association, offers $50 for Grand Champion Barrow over all breeds, provided they are from litters recorded in this Association and a picture of the winner and application for award, signed by Fair Management, is received within 30 days following the show. The Ohio Duroc Breeders Association, will award $50 to the exhibitor of the Grand Champion Barrow (purebred or crossbred), if sired by a registered Duroc Boar. The owner of the barrow must be able to verify name and registry number of the sire at time of award. The Poland China Record Association, Inc., P. O. Box 9758, Peoria, IL 61612, will present a trophy to the exhibitor of the Grand Champion Barrow over all breeds providing they are out of a recorded Poland China litter. A picture of winning animal, barrow certificate and certification by an Ohio State Fair official must be sent to the Poland China Record Association within 30 days of show. The National Spotted Swine Record, Inc., will award $50 to the owner and exhibitor of the Grand Champion Barrow over all breeds provided the exhibitor is a member of the National Record and the barrow is verified from a litter reported with the National Record. The Association will award $50 to the owner and exhibitor of the Grand Champion Barrow over all breeds over all breeds or a crossbred if sired by a recorded Spotted Boar. Payment will be made upon receipt of notice by show officials. SALE OF BARROWS The Ohio Expositions Commission and Management would like to express their gratitude to United Producers Inc. for their assistance in promoting and managing the Ohio State Fair tele-auction of barrows. 9

10 1. A sale expense fee of $3.50 per barrow will be deducted from sale proceeds. The barrow owners will be paid sale price minus sale expense fee and additional one quarter of one percent (.0025) of the market value per barrow will be deducted to be paid to the National Pork Producers Council to promote the Pork and Swine Industries. 2. All barrows shall remain the property of the exhibitor until property is loaded on the purchaser s truck, Sunday, August 6. DIVISION 1613 BUCKEYE BIG BOAR CONTEST Total Amount Offered First Place Only $150 and NO ENTRY FEE SPECIAL RULES 11. Contest open to Ohio residents. 12. The winning boar must be in place at the Ohio State Fair by 12:00 noon, Thursday, July 27 and on display until 4:00 p.m., Sunday, August The winning boar is to be displayed in a designated educational exhibit area of the Swine Barn; however, he may be removed from the display for exercise, washing and other essential activities as long as he is properly handled. 5. The educational exhibit area will be supervised and helpers will be available to care for the boar, doing routine chores, but will not be held responsible in any way for the health and welfare of the boar if the exhibitor elects to have the boar cared for by the Ohio State Fair. 6. The exhibitor of the boar must have adequate liability insurance, as most farm protection policies provide. 7. Entries will be made on regular entry blank and due in the Ohio State Fair Entry Department by June 20. The entry shall give a name, or some identification of the boar the boar weight, exhibitor s name and address and a telephone number. a. The entry received with the heaviest weight will be the winning boar and eligible to be exhibited. b. If more than one entry has the same heaviest weight, the Ohio State Fair Entry Department will draw lots for the boar entry to be accepted. c. If the winning boar dies, or becomes incapacitated so it may not be exhibited at the Fair, then the next heaviest weight or lot drawn will be the entry. 18. The entry accepted and exhibited shall receive as a prize $150 and a banner. 9. General Rules will apply. In case the General Rules conflict with the Special Rules the latter shall govern. 10

Maximum of six (6) head including market barrows. All entries must be owned and in the exhibitor's possession by June 1. Entries must be in the youth exhibitor's name. Exhibitor must be between the ages of 5 to 21, as of January 1 Weight limit for gilts: pounds. Classes divided by declared weights. All gilt classes will be shown smallest to largest by weight. Weigh back top gilts (15 pounds under or over). Gilts will be divided into three (3) divisions. Entry information due in the Swine Office by 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 2. All gilts marked to sell must sell in auction. Additional gilts may be entered into the sale for a $20 entry fee. These will be added at the judge and sale committee recommendations. The profit from this sale is used by the Ohio Youth Swine Committee. Must be between 19 to 21 years of age as of January 1. Awards sponsored by Ohio Youth Swine Committee Novice and Advanced Showmanship is not open to 2017 Junior Fair barrow eligible exhibitors. A market for gilts not making the sale will be available. All gilts must be removed from the fairgrounds by 10:00 p.m., Thursday, August 3. Exhibitors must use water only on gilts when grooming for show. No oil or what appears to be oil or powder will be permitted. All gilts must have a measurable 1/2" of body hair, underline included. Ears and tails may be a shorter length. Any questions about the Breeding Gilt Show will be determined by the Swine Department Officials - This decision will be final. 11

12 ENTRY INFORMATION One entry blank per exhibitor is required. If an exhibitor has both market and breeding in a species, then, please, only complete one entry blank. Swine exhibitors need only enter the division/breed information at the top of the entry blank. If this agrees with the payment per animal fee, then no other information is required. The Junior entry blank is a different one than the Open. If you want to enter both Junior and Open, then two blanks are needed. Entry due date of June 20 means the entry blank and payment must be postmarked, not received by this date. Metered mail is not acceptable. Checks should be made payable to: Ohio State Fair. It's permissible to pay for multiple family members with only one check, provided all entries are sent in the same envelope. ONLINE ENTRY INFORMATION You may enter online at Exhibitors should keep their exact login information (username/password). If entering under farm name, please utilize team/ company information line to list your farm name. LATE ENTRY (June 21-July 20) requires a $50.00 late fee per exhibitor, per species, plus the usual per animal charge. If wanting to enter both Junior and Open, then it would be $50.00 for each area, plus the animal entry fee. Any entry made July 20 and after will be charged $75.00 per exhibitor, per species and per animal charge.
