2 Step Forward into History. Be a Hundred-Miler. Ride 40 miles the first day, 35 miles the second and 25 miles the third under ECTRA-sanctioned competitive trail judging. Enjoy the fun and friendly competition all wrapped up in 80 years of tradition. There is nothing like it! Our esteemed judges this year are Nick Kohut, DVM and Linda Ferguson Glock for the 100-mile and other competitive distances; and Joan Hiltz, DVM for the 15-mile conditioning distance ride. New! 100-Mile Team Relay Grab 2 friends and complete the 100-mile together, relay-style. You can form a team of 2 or 3 horse/rider combinations. You will also qualify for awards and mileage for the distance you ride (60, 40, 35 or 25). See the Entry Form for full details. Also New! 50-Mile Pleasure Horse Challenge Pleasure riding has always been a part of the GMHA 100-Mile. Traditionally, the pleasure portion of the ride (called the B Ride ) was 50 miles. So, if you d like to challenge yourself, join into the 50-Mile Pleasure Horse Challenge and receive a prize if you complete all 50 miles. As always, there will be shorter loops for those who would prefer less distance. Competitive Trail in 6 Distances Pass/fail options are offered in all distances. 5 100-Mile Team Relay Details The goal: To complete 100 competitive trail miles as a team over 3 days. Why? Because you get to name your team and cheer each other on. Maybe your horse isn t ready for 100 miles or maybe you aren t ready to ride that far. This is a fun way to complete the distance as a team. Also, you get ECTRA mileage and scoring/awards in whatever distance (60, 40, 35, 25) you complete as a team member. Your team: The most likely combination is 2 or 3 riders with their separate horses. It is permissible for one rider to enter a different horse each day or 2 horses over 3 days. How you get to 100 miles: The team will never have more than one rider on any given day. If your team has 3 members, Rider A enters and completes 40 miles on Friday, Rider B enters and completes 35 miles on Saturday, Rider C enters and completes 25 miles on Sunday. If your team has 2 members, Rider A completes 40 miles on Friday, Rider B completes 60 miles on Saturday and Sunday. Another option with 2 members is for Rider A to complete 40 miles on Friday and 25 miles on Sunday and Rider B to complete 35 miles on Saturday. With 2 members, any order is permissible. Pass/fail entries are not permitted. Scoring: Upon completion each day, the team member s score is added to the total. The scores are averaged. The team with the highest average wins. Awards: The Team Relay will award prizes to Champion, Reserve Champion, and 1st through 6th places. Each team member who places will receive a ribbon and award. How to Enter: Get your team together and decide who will be doing each distance. Each member will enter the distance that they intend to ride as a stand alone entry and will also indicate in the Team Relay box the team name and other team members. Team composition and name can not be changed after 3pm on Thursday, September 1. Entry Fee: Your cost for entering will be the entry fee for whatever distance you are riding plus an extra $5 to help support team prizes. Arriving Early? Plan to attend the early bird party for 100-milers at Smoke Rise Farm on Wednesday night, 6:30pm. Contact Kathy Hall (kathy.stormybrook@gmail.com) to RSVP. Pleasure Riding Three days of pleasure riding are offered Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. You will be stabled with other pleasure riders so you and your horse can enjoy the more relaxed pace and schedule. Breakfast, lunch and trail snacks are included each day. If you sign up for all 3 days, your stabling and dinner tickets for Thursday and Friday are included. Bring nice clothes for the banquet on Thursday. If you are a single-day rider, a day stall will be provided for the day you enter. You will have 3 trail distance options Friday and Saturday short (6-8 miles), medium, (12-15 miles) and long (20 miles). On Sunday, you will have 6 and 10 mile options. Lunch will be served on trail for the longer options, weather permitting. There will be a New England Horse & Trail signup sheet for your mileage each day. 50-Mile Pleasure Horse Challenge To enter this Challenge, you need to be signed up for all 3 days with the same horse. The fee is an additional $5 to your 3-day entry. You will pleasure ride 20 miles on Friday and Saturday and 10 miles on Sunday. A trail manager will verify your completion of the distance each day. Ride at your own pace. All riders who meet the challenge will receive a special prize in a ceremony after brunch on Sunday. Accommodations & Travel To find the best route, use your GPS or online map service to search 5491 South Road, South Woodstock, VT, If you are traveling up the eastern seaboard from metropolitan areas, consider taking the New York Throughway to Albany and taking major highways across Vermont to avoid city traffic. If you choose not to camp at GMHA, there are many other options from off-site camping to hotels to bed and breakfast establishments. We also have an on-site Ranch House for rent. Contact us for availability or visit for a list of off-site options.
