5 NWAHJA Classes and Divisions / Conditions of Entry Continued Progressive Medal: This is a test of an individual as a show jumping rider. Exhibitors will show over a course of no less than eight fences and may choose from heights 2 9, 3. At any time during the show season the rider may choose a different height, lower or higher. The course must also include at least three of the following: Bending Lines Narrow Jump (6 8 ) Roll-Back Turn Fence at the End of the Ring Long Approach to a Single Jump To be judged on style and execution. Upon completion of the over fences phase all riders will be asked to come back to the ring for a flat phase on the same horse. Riders will be asked to show at the working walk, working trot sitting, the working trot rising, as well as showing a lengthening of stride; the working canter, and the working canter showing a lengthening of stride. Riders being considered for an award will be asked for the working canter on the counter lead for at least one full revolution of the arena in both directions. Riders may be asked for additional tests. (see USEF tests 1-19 below) To be judged onrider s position, seat and the correctness and the effect of the aids. 2 contestants are required for the class to fill. All entries will qualify for the year end Medal Finals to be held at the Harvest Run show. Distances will not be adjusted for ponies. Riders may not cross enter into any other Medal Class. Amateur Pony Hunter: Open to all ponies. Fences set at heights of 2, 2 3 or 2 6. Entrant may decide which height to compete in regardless of pony s height. Rounds will be ridden throughout the day as courses are changed for other divisions. Riders will be asked to show their ponies at the walk, trot and canter in the under-saddle class. Baby Green Hunter: Open to horses or ponies in their first or second consecutive year of showing in a competition over fences. The courses consist of fences not to exceed 2 3 in height, with small oxers no wider than the height of the fence. The riders will be asked to show their horses at the walk, trot and canter in the under-saddle class. Modified Amateur Hunter: Amateurs only. The courses consist of fences not to exceed 2 3 in height, with small oxers no wider than the height of the fence. The riders will be asked to show their horses at the walk, trot and canter in the under-saddle class. Scholarship Equitation and Education Equitation: Amateurs only. Scholarship class. Riders may choose fence heights of 2 3 (Sunday only), 2 6 or 2 9. Rounds will be ridden throughout the day as course heights are changed for other divisions. Open to all amateur riders regardless of age or membership. However, riders wishing to compete for the scholarship must meet the following requirements: Notification of Intent recorded with NWAHJA Member in good standing with NWAHJA Freshman through Senior in High School Grade Point Average of 2.5 or higher Application and guidelines can be found at NWAHJA Hunter: Open to all. Table II, Sec 2(b): Cross-Entry of horse/rider into Future Jumpers only. The first round and first jump-off, if any, are decided by adding together the faults incurred over the course and any penalties for exceeding the Time Allowed. If a competitor has gone clean in the first round, the competitor will, without leaving the ring, upon audible signal, commence the designated jump-off course. A competitor with a clear round may dismount, and with assistance if necessary, adjust tack and/or equipment; however, upon audible signal to begin his/her round, the competitor is responsible for adhering to the 45 second rule as per JP134.3 A competitor who leaves the arena after a clear round (before or after the tone) will be considered to have retired from the jump-off. If there arena clean rounds and a tie exists for first place, there will be one jump-off in which time will decide in the event of equality of faults. It is recommended that no more than ten numbered obstacles be included in the first round when the class is scored under this table. Training Jumper Level 1: : Table II, Sec 2(b): same as above. Table II, Sec 2c Power and Speed: If a competitor has gone clean in the first round rider will, upon crossing the finish line, commence the designated jump-off course. Time starts as the horse crosses the finish line for the initial course. If there are no clean rounds and a tie exists for first place, there will be one jump-off in which time will decide. Open Jumper Level 2: : Table II, Sec 2c Power and Speed: same as above. Table II, Sec 1: Timed First Round; first round is decided by adding together faults incurred over the course and any penalties for exceeding the time allowed. Horses with clean rounds or equal faults are classified according to their time taken to complete the course.

7 NWAHJA Classes and Divisions / Conditions of Entry Pleasure: Amateurs Only. This division is for entry-level riders only. Individuals who can walk and trot and have never shown over obstacles at a rated or non-rated show. The purpose of the class is to provide an initial showing experience for individuals just beginning to learn how to ride. It is not intended for individuals who are routinely cantering or jumping over fences, either as part of their lesson plan or at shows of whatever caliber. Rider may not enter any other classes at show. Class number 1 and 2 are under-saddle only, riders will be asked to show their horses at the walk and trot in both directions. Class number 3 may include two (2) ground poles placed separately to be trotted over. This class may progress over show season to four (4) ground poles. Open Walk-Trot Under Saddle: Open to all. Riders will be asked to show their horses at the walk and trot in both directions. Class may be split between professionals and amateurs if entries warrant. Beginner Walk/Trot Hunter and Equitation: Amateurs Only. The course for this division will be four (4) 12 crossbars set as two (2) lines, one line on each side of ring. The rider will jump once around only. The rider may trot the entire course or trot to the line and canter away. Riders may not canter in to any first fence of a line. On the flat, the riders will be asked to show their horses at the walk and trot in both directions. No cross-entry into any other division is allowed by that horse/rider combination. Intermediate Walk/Trot Hunter and Equitation: Amateurs Only. The course will be 12 crossbars with optional diagonal lines or a single fence present. The rider may trot the entire course, trot to the line and canter away, or canter the entire course. On the flat, the riders will be asked to show their horses at the walk and trot in both directions. No cross-entry into any other division is allowed by that horse/rider combination. Maiden Hunter: Open to horses or ponies in their first year of showing. The course will be seven (7) or eight (8) jumps consisting of 12 crossbars jumping in 18 verticals out. For the under-saddle class riders will be asked to show their horses at the walk, trot and canter in both directions. Leadline: No age limit. Offered both Days. Horse or pony must be led/controlled by a qualified horse leader. Entrants may not enter any other classes in show. Progressive Hunter: Riders must be 12 years of age or over. If warranted, classes may be divided into age groups and 18 - up. The jumps will include 18 verticals jumping in and 2 verticals jumping out. The riders will show their horses at the walk, trot and canter in the under saddle class. 18 Amateur Hunter and Equitation: Amateurs only. The courses are simple with seven (7) or eight (8) small 18 verticals. Entrants are encouraged to canter the courses as a stepping stone towards more advanced divisions. On the flat and in the under-saddle class, the riders will be asked to show their horses at the walk, trot and canter in both directions. 2 Hunter: Open to all. The courses consist of fences not to exceed 2 in height, with small oxers no wider than the height of the fence. The riders will be asked to show their horses at the walk, trot and canter in the under-saddle class. 2 Amateur Hunter: Amateurs only. The courses consist of fences not to exceed 2 in height with small oxers no wider than the height of the fence. The riders will be asked to show their horses at the walk, trot and canter in the under-saddle class 2 Equitation: Amateurs only. The course will consist of fences not to exceed 2 in height with small oxers no wider than the height of the fence. The riders will be asked to show their horses at the walk, trot and canter in the flat class. 2 Medal 2 fences, may have oxers with maximum spread of 2. USEF Tests 1-6 may be used for work-off on the flat. (See USEF Tests listed below) It is the judge s discretion as to which test may be used. **Warm-Up: Open to all $15. Warm-up rounds can be ridden before any hunter class to be judged. Riders cannot ride a warm-up round before any Equitation Class including but not limited to: Education Equitation, 2 Medal, NWAHJA Medal, Progressive Medal, or any Jumper Class. In addition, warm up rounds are not offered to riders who are riding in the Pleasure division or any crossbar division. 8 Rules & Guidelines Proper show attire required with exception of Pleasure Division (attire rules to be found at or in the NWAHJA Rule Book). ATSM/SEI protective headgear required when mounted. Attire for Pleasure Division only. Although we encourage traditional riding attire, pleasure attire of a hard heeled shoe or boot, neutral colored schooling tights (with belt if loops), approved helmet and a shirt with collar and sleeves will be acceptable. No jeans and/or cowboy boots allowed. One year negative Coggins is REQUIRED and will be checked upon arrival. Pleasure, Beginner & Intermediate divisions will be pinned through 10th place if entries warrant (Year-End Awards awarded through 6th place). Ribbons for Champion and Reserve Champion. Only horses receiving points over fences are to receive under saddle points toward determining champion and reserve champion of each division.* A horse/rider combination may only cross enter divisions with fence heights of six (6) inch difference. This includes flat and under saddle classes, jumper classes excluded. A horse/pony may not be ridden in more than (10) individual classes per show day. This limit does not apply to any challenge classes or the Pleasure walk/trot division.* In the event that a division does not fill (3 or more riders) and cannot be combined with another division, the class will run with half points being awarded. Entry into one over fences class in a division is prohibited. Rider must enter the whole division or only the under saddle/flat class. The One Minute Rule will be enforced at all times. A rider will have one (1) minute to enter the arena when called or be penalized by disqualification in that class. Out of respect for other competitors and the judge, this rule is not up for discussion. BE PREPARED! NWAHJA Steward is on duty for show safety, management, schooling and questions. Please do not approach the judge during the show. Any horse or pony known to kick must wear a red ribbon in its tail as a warning. A formal request from a rider or trainer to view the card can be made to the Show Manager. The rider and their trainer must wait until after the last class of the day to speak with the judge. It is a NWAHJA policy that ANY help or encouragement from the ringside by adult guardians or instructor/trainers is prohibited. Horses owned by a registered NWAHJA member may receive a year-end award once the horse has competed and received points in that division in a minimum of 2 NWAHJA sanctioned shows during the show year.* A rider in an equitation or medal class or division may receive a year-end award if the rider has competed in and received points in that class or division at a minimum of 2 NWAHJA sanctioned shows during the show year. A rider will not be disqualified for the purposes or this rule if, by virtue of when the rider becomes a member of NWAHJA, the rider competes in and receives points in all shows at which the rider was eligible to accumulate points during the show year. To help us ensure that everyone is checked in and has signed a release, please wear your number during schooling! Please read through the NWAHJA Rule Book to acquaint yourself with class descriptions and other conditions of entry. Please return your number to the registration table before leaving the show.
