1 Equestrian Schedule ENTRIES CLOSE 15 NOV 2018 and fastened when in the arena or ring, the practice area, collecting rings or anywhere on the Showgrounds. Hats/helmets must conform with one of the current approved safety standards and MUST have been RED TAGGED to confirm this. No tag = no entry into the show ring. First Aid First aid is available on the upper level. Contact the Show Office. Accidents must be reported to your Chief Steward and the Show Office. Whangarei A&P Show Equestrian Rules, including Donkey & Mules, for RAS Affiliated Shows/Events, Competitors, Exhibitors & Judges. Regulations & Conditions of Entry The Whangarei A&P Society will conduct this Show in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for the governance and conduct of A & P Shows, in their entirety, as ratified by the Royal Agricultural Society of NZ (RAS). These rules will be on display at the Show Office. Whangarei A&P Society has offered the standard qualifying section schedule as presented in the RAS rules. As such the Society believes therefore that this Show is a qualifying show for Horse of the Year. In addition, the RAS equestrian levy (as set by the RAS) is incorporated into the entry fees. Note: Rules for Show Jumping may differ as these classes are run under ESNZ/FEI Rules, not RAS Rules. IMPORTANT HEALTH & SAFETY INFORMATION FOR EXHIBITORS & COMPETITORS All Exhibitors agree to comply with the terms of the Health & Safety at Work Act 2016 and its subsequent amendments. Whangarei A&P Society will accept no responsibility in any claim from any person resulting from non-compliance with the Act. All Exhibitors and Competitors must follow the instructions of Stewards and Officials. Exhibitors and Competitors are responsible for ensuring animals are kept in control at all times. Whangarei A&P Society reserves the right to order immediate removal from the Showgrounds of any animal it considers dangerous, unruly or unmanageable. Exhibitors and competitors must ensure that they keep walkways and access ways clear and no dangerous equipment of chemicals are accessible to the public. NO SMOKING is permitted in any toilets, showers, marquee, gazebo or tent. Whangarei A&P Society reserves the right to impose a fine of $ on any person found smoking in these areas. Protective Headwear Wearing a hard hat is compulsory for anyone competing on, working in or schooling or riding for any reason a horse within the Showgrounds, including harness drivers. All riders, including harness drivers, with the exception of heavy horse (Clydesdale). must wear protective headgear, which includes a retaining harness secured to the shell at more than two points. Such head gears must be worn with the chinstrap properly adjusted Legal Liability The Society's policy does not cover Competitors and Exhibitors Each exhibitor must supervise and control their animals at all times and shall be liable for any hazard created, or accident, illness or damage caused by the action of themselves or their animals at the Showgrounds. Exhibitors must comply with the appropriate Animal Legislation and the Health & Safety at Work Act No person is permitted in any judging ring without express permission from the Head steward of that ring. Only persons directly responsible for an Exhibit are permitted in the marshalling area. ALL EXHIBITORS are required to maintain good control over their animals and the area in which their animals are stalled and to keep equipment in tidy order at all times so as not to interfere with access through the passageways. All exhibits shall be at the sole risk of the owner or exhibitor and Whangarei A&P Society shall not, under any circumstances, be responsible for loss or damage, misdelivery, detention or delay of exhibits of any description whatsoever. COMPLETION OF ENTRY FORMS Entries & Online Entries: showdayonline.com Online entries are simple and easy to do - try it - and you will save the $5.00 entry processing fee. Please note online entries are paid at the time of entry. The online entry system allows you to safely pay directly. No entries will be acknowledged unless accompanied by entry fees. Entries will not be processed unless ALL monies are received and the entry form is properly completed and signed. No telephone entries will be accepted. The onus of responsibility for the accuracy of all entries lies solely with the exhibitor, who must ensure that each entry is legible and that all details required for any class are fully and correctly stated on the entry form. Several events are run concurrently. Competitors should select which class they favour as there will be no refund of entry fees where classes overlap. Show Jumping entries MUST be completed on the Whangarei A&P Society entry form AND accompanied by the relevant ESNZ entry form. Late Entries WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED Entries close at 5.00pm on 15th November. The only exception to the late entry rule will be for Show Jumping sections which are run under ESNZ Rules. Late entries in these sections will only be accepted at the discretion of the ring steward prior to the start of competition for the day and a 50% penalty will be imposed entry fees after 15 th November. 7

2 Receipt of Entries COMPETITORS are responsible for checking their entry receipt/confirmation carefully. A receipt showing all details of your entries will be returned to you following data processing. Please note any overpaid entry fees will only be refunded upon request and if the overpayment is $5.00 or more. Entry forms will NOT be returned to you. Any alterations to classes must be made to the Show Secretary by 28 November in writing (by ). NO EXCEPTIONS other than Novice upgrading changes. Refund of Entry Fees Exhibitors desiring refund of entry fees must apply in writing enclosing a veterinarian's or doctor's certificate. Such application will be considered by the Committee, and if successful, refunds will be made less 25%. GENERAL CONDITIONS OF ENTRY Competitor Number Competitors must supply their own competitor number, which may be worn on the breastplate, arm or back. The competitor number is shown on the entry confirmation, which is mailed to you with relevant passes to the Show. Electronic or Audio Equipment Electronic or Audio equipment carried on a competitor deemed to be possible of outside assistance to a competitor is banned from all competitions at any RAS or affiliated shows, with the penalty of forfeiting all prize money, awards and qualifications and elimination from any further classes at that show. Gate Admission Passes One gate admission wrist band is provided per competitor as named on the entry form. A coloured wrist band will be issued which must be WORN in order to allow you entry to the Showgrounds. The wrist band is water proof and tear proof and can be left on for the duration of the Show. The wrist band will be mailed to you along with your entry receipt/confirmation, prior to the Show. Additional gate admission can be paid for at the gate. Catalogue/Substitutions When an animal has been duly entered and catalogued in any class, the substitution of another animal will not be permitted. Ground Levy A ground levy of $7.00 per horse must be included with entry forms. Class Amalgamation The Society reserves the right to amalgamate classes if there are insufficient entries. Local Means a local owner or local competitor who is resident within the area of the Whangarei District Council. Member Means current financial member of Whangarei A&P Society. Membership must be paid prior to 30 September to qualify for discounted member entry fees. Prize Money In all classes throughout the schedule, the full prize money will be paid out if there are four or more entries. If there are three entries or less, prize money will be scaled. For example, where the Prize Money is 1st = $30, 2nd = $20, 3rd = $10: 1 entry 1st $10 2 entries 1st, 2nd $15, $10 3 entries 1st, 2nd, 3rd $15, $10, $5 4 entries 1st, 2nd, 3rd $30, $20, $10 Where the Prize Money is 1st = $50, 2nd = $30, 3rd = $20, 4th = $10 if there are three entries or less, prize money will be scaled as follows: 1 entry 1st $10 2 entries 1st, 2 nd $20, $15 3 entries 1st, 2 nd,3 rd $25, $15, $10 4 entries 1st,2 nd,3 rd $50,$30, 20,$10 Sponsored prize money of a section or class may be paid in lieu of Society prize money and will not be additional. Sponsorships are subject to confirmation. Prizewinners Ribbons and prize money will be presented on conclusion of events. Whangarei A&P Society no longer allows cups and trophies to leave the Showgrounds. Cups and trophies are available for viewing in the trophy cabinet inside the foyer at the Barge Showgrounds Events Centre. Supreme Awards It would be appreciated if all Champions eligible for Supreme Awards present themselves for these awards in a timely manner. It is poor manners to leave the Show prior to these Awards being presented if you are eligible. Publication of Show Results & Show Photos The Whangarei Agricultural & Pastoral Society reserves the right to publish show results. Entry in the show entitles the Society to publish an exhibitor's name in result reports and distribute with exhibitor lists. Furthermore, as an entrant in the Show, any photographs taken of entries, competitors or exhibitors may be used for publicity purposes by the Society. Alteration to Programme and Prize Money The Whangarei A & P Society reserves the right to alter the programme and prizemoney without prior notice. Dogs and/or other animals It is the preference of the Whangarei A&P Society that no animal except those entered in the Catalogue, or as part of a Trade Display or Entertainment, is brought to the Showgrounds during the Show. IF a dog is brought onto the grounds, it must be: on a lead at all times OR fully contained and controlled within a vehicle or horse float. In NO circumstances is a dog to be walking or running free on the Showgrounds during the Show. This includes after hours. FORMALITIES & PROTOCOLS Rights of Whangarei A&P Society & Committee The Society reserves the right to refuse or cancel any entry without giving any reason for so doing and reserves the right to make any alteration to the Show timetable, or withdraw any event as may be deemed desirable. 8

3 All persons admitted into any premise controlled by the Society is subject to the orders of the Society's committee and officials. Should any such person, in the opinion of the Society, its committee or officials, infringe any of these Conditions and Regulations or refuse to comply with the directions of the same, or be guilty of any fraudulent or unfair practice or any deceit or concealment either in entering or exhibiting or competing, shall be disqualified. Furthermore, their name shall not appear in the official prize list, and the Society shall have power to suspend such person from exhibiting or competing during such period as it may think fit. The decision of Whangarei A&P Society and its committee shall be absolutely final in all cases. Yellow Card - This Show/Event supports the RAS 'Yellow Card' system. A Yellow Card will be issued, In cases of offences in respect of abuse of animals or inappropriate behaviour as per the RAS Constitution and the RAS Rules & Regulations/Bylaws including the Equestrian Rulebook, the RAS affiliated Show/Event/registered Measuring Stand and their grounds and their duly appointed delegates may deliver to the Person Responsible a Yellow Warning Card (either immediately or within 10 days of the show) which suspends any penalty until possible new offences. Full wording of the 'Yellow Card' system is available to view on the RAS website Clean Sport Testing The Rules of the Royal A&P Society New Zealand in regard to Clean Sport apply. See Clean Sport Section (CS) in RAS Equestrian Rule Book. Competitors are advised that tests for forbidden substances may be carried out during the Show/Event and that testing of all animals is at the person responsible s risk. A Forbidden Substance is any substance capable of affecting the speed, stamina, courage or conduct of a horse, pony, donkey or mule by its action upon the central or peripheral nervous system or the cardio-vascular, respiratory, alimentary, digestive, muscoskeletal or urogenital systems. Arrears No person who is in arrears with regard to entry fees, subscriptions, or any other show/event charge is eligible to compete at any affiliated show/event. Proof of payment will be required before any restriction is lifted. Summary of RAS Resolution Process The full process can be found on the RAS website The principle behind the process is to deal with the matter as it comes to hand and in most cases it should be dealt with directly by the show. If the matter is in regards to an RAS official, the show may request the assistance of RAS Head Office as to how to deal with this in an appropriate manner. Protests As per the RAS Complaints Procedure adopted in June 2013, all protests must be in writing and detail the specific RAS or Whangarei A&P Society rule that has been breached. The protest must be lodged with the Show Secretary, preferably at the time of the incident, or within 10 days of the incident. Any protest lodged outside of this timeframe will not be considered. A $50.00 deposit must accompany the protest. (The RAS Complaints Procedure 9 can be found on the RAS website under Rules and Regulations). Sportsmanship The purpose of our show is to provide our community and visiting competitors with the opportunity to have an enjoyable day of fun and friendly competition, therefore any person or persons who verbally or otherwise abuses fellow competitors, stewards, judges, show officials or animals may be asked at the discretion of the Show, to leave the Showground. Discipline The CEO, President, or any two members of the Whangarei A&P Society Executive Committee may eject from the Showground, without compensation or return of fees, any person whose conduct or behaviour, either personal or as proprietor of a side show or exhibit, is a source of annoyance. This includes any exhibitor, competitor or member of the public who behaves in a manner, which in the opinion of the Judges or Society representatives, is considered to be rude, bad manners, disobedient or abusive or which is designed to be or has the effect of harassing or being discourteous to any Steward, Judge, or other Show Official, animal or exhibit. Penalty Penalty for such offence may include expulsion from the Show, disqualification, suspension from exhibiting during such period as it may think fit. Measuring The height of horses and ponies must be confirmed by production of correct height certificate issued by a qualified measuring authority. Under the RAS Rules for annual certificates, 0.5cm only is allowed for normal shoes, and no allowances for thin shoes or racing plates. The age of all horses is calculated from 1st August. Annual certification is from 1st August until 31st July the following year. All horses and ponies measured within that period must renew their annual height certificate on 1st August or shortly thereafter. Youngstock Certificate are valid from 1 August to 31 January, and from 1 January to 31 July. Measuring Dates: Sunday 2nd September 10am-12 noon Sunday 16 th September 10am-12 noon Sunday 30 th September 10am-12 noon Sunday14th October 10am-12noon Miniature Horses 12pm-2pmOthers Sunday 28 th October Sunday13th January 10am-12 noon 10am-11am Miniature 11am-12 noon Others NO measures will be conducted outside of these dates. Height Certificates Exhibitors must carry a current RAS Height Certificate in all classes where height is a requirement of eligibility. Height Certificates will be checked by stewards before horses/ponies enter the ring. Judges will refuse to judge exhibits who do not produce height certificates when requested. NO Height Certificate on the day = NO competing! Unless height certificates are presented, no prizemoney or ribbons will be awarded.

4 Equestrian The RAS Equestrian Competitors & Judges Rule Book can be viewed online at Stallions & Colts: In accordance with RAS rule CDE14 (a) All stallions and colts (with the exception of Miniature horses and foals) must be shown in a bit. In the case of Miniature Donkey Jacks 86cm and under, they must either be shown in a bit or a halter with a stallion chain. If utilising the option of a halter and a stallion chain, then the donkey's original RAS height certificate must be carried at the time of showing, to show proof of height. (b) A Steward will order any stallion/colt considered out of control or to be causing undue disquiet to other horses from the ring without recourse from the stallion/colt's owner/exhibitor/competitor. (c) It is compulsory for all stallions and colts, except foals, to wear two (2) official 'S" identification badges, one attached to each side of their bridle, at all Shows/Events at all times. The rider/handler must also wear two RAS official (2) armbands (one on each arm) when in the ring. 'S' badges to be purchased from RAS Head Office or ESNZ; armbands from RAS Head Office. (d) Handlers and Riders of stallions/colts must wear an approved Hi Viz vest at Shows/Events when outside the showing ring. Vests can be purchased from RAS Head Office. Horse Pens The Whangarei A & P Society will NOT permit horses/ponies to be contained in temporary pens. Horse Pens are available at the Showgrounds at $5.00 per night or $10.00 for the weekend/duration of the show. Please enter your requirements on the entry form where provided. Competitors please note: The Health & Safety Act requires that hard hats are worn during competitions. All rings are split and offer Novice and Open Classes - only novice horses may enter in novice classes - all may enter in Open Classes. Paced and mannered class winners from all rings are eligible for the paced and mannered championship. In all rings first prize winners only to parade for champions. Once the champion has been selected the second placed animal to the champion MUST be allowed to parade for the judging of reserve champion. One championship or two reserve championships in the open rings qualify animals for the New Zealand Horse of the Year Show. PONY CONDITIONS: Ponies or children entering in the Ridden Pony Rings may not enter for classes in Hack/Hunter Ring. Any pony that has entered in or competed in Hack/Hunter Ring events on either day is not eligible for this section. All ponies to be measured prior to entering Ring. Age of Riders/Handlers is as per RAS rules and is as at 1 August. If there are insufficient entries, some classes may be combined. Protective Headgear: All riders 16 years and under must wear protective headgear, which includes a retaining harness secured to the shell at more than two points. Such headgear must be worn with the chinstrap properly adjusted and fastened when in the arena or ring, the practice area collecting rings or anywhere else within the Showgrounds. Classifications Horses or ponies may only enter those classes which correspond to the classification selected at the time of measuring and as noted on the current height certificate: e.g Hack, Park Hack, Saddle Hunter, Riding Horse, Show Pony, Saddle Pony. An exhibit may only be entered in the Show Hack or Riding Horse or Saddle Hunter Section Horses will be required to gallop within the confines and constrains of the venue involved. The Novice status of the horse from previous Show Hack, Park Hack or Saddle Hunter competitions will apply to this 'Riding Horse' section. An exhibit may only be entered in a Lady's or Gentleman's Class - not both. Novice Classification (a) A Novice exhibit or rider is one that has yet to win six (6) classes in any division within the competitions provided at any A & P Show/Event. Note: To clarify further, at time of first day of the Show/Event competition If you have 0, 1 or 2 wins - you can enter the 0-2 wins class If you have 0, 1, 2 or 3 wins - you can enter the 0-3 wins class If you have 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 wins - you can enter the 0-5 wins class Once you have achieved 6 wins in Conformation (and this includes Lady's & Gent's classes) and/or Paced & Mannered classes, you can no longer enter in Novice classes in that category. (b) All Wins, whether they be novice or open, at all affiliated RAS Shows/Events including the NZ Horse of the Year (HOY) Show must be recorded on the RAS Certificate and/or Performance Card, until six wins are achieved. Open Classification All horses and ponies that have won six classes within a designated section (as above). Open class horses may not enter Novice classes. Winners of Paced & Mannered Classes Winners of these classes are eligible to compete for Paced and Mannered Championship of the Show. 10

5 Maximum Jump Heights - Round the Ring The maximum distances for Doubles are: 10 m (33 feet) for horses 8.5m (27 feet) for ponies over 138cm to 148cm 7.5m (24 feet for ponies not exceeding 138cm The minimum distances for One Stride Doubles are: 8.5m (27 feet) for horses 7.5m (24 feet) for ponies over 138cm to 148cm 6.5 m (21 feet) for ponies not exceeding 138cm Jump Heights are not to exceed: 125cm for horses 105cm for ponies over 138cm and up to 148cm 85cm for ponies over 128cm & not over 138cm 70 cm for ponies 128cm and under. The Horse and Pony Sections in this schedule are Royal Agricultural Society Horse of the Year Qualifiers Horse Section Horses entered in this section must be shown in their current recorded height group and classes. This is the responsibility of the competitor and must be checked on the confirmation of entries. Any errors found on show day will not be rectified. They must hold a current RAS height certificate issued by an official RAS Measuring Steward at an official RAS measuring stand. ALL Height Certificates will be checked on the day. ALL Hacks, Park Hacks, Riding Horses and Saddle Hunters are eligible to enter this section. They will be required to jump a minimum of three (3) hunter type fences. Jumping style and ability 40%; conformation 30%; paces and manners 30%. Horses will be required to gallop within the confines and constraints of the ring. No boots or bandages are permitted. 10 Worker Hunter Ponies Working Hunter Ponies are required to demonstrate jumping ability and be of good strong conformation with good manners, sound paces and be a comfortable ride over long distances. They will be required to jump a minimum of three (3) hunter type fences. Jumping style and ability 40%; conformation 30%; paces and manners 30%. Ponies will be required to gallop within the confines and constraints of the ring, No boots or bandages are permitted. Combinations from both rings in jumping classes will be given the opportunity to jump up, and smaller height ponies (under 138cm) can jump the smaller jumps at no disadvantage.
