2 Letter from the editor Sue Thurlow Welcome to winter. And as the weather cools, the horse competition season heats up. While the MARC committee is busy all year round, this is the season when MARC needs the most participation from its members (and their friends) as volunteers at our major events, the Fraser Coast All Breeds Show and the Fraser Coast Dressage Championships. Without sufficient volunteers, these events simply cannot happen. Especially if you are not competing (horse not ready, busy with work, children, and so on) please pay it forward by volunteering your help, so that when you are ready to compete, there will be others volunteering to help for you then. As a fun reward / incentive, there will be a $50 cash raffle with free tickets for all who volunteer 3 hours, or more, at either the All Breeds Show or the Dressage Championships. Eligible volunteers will have their name written on a raffle ticket, and the raffle will be drawn at the prize giving of the Dressage Championships. People who volunteer (3 hours or more) at both events will receive 2 tickets. MARC members and non-members will be eligible. We know that most volunteers would do so anyway, but we hope this might be an incentive for some. The money was donated specifically for this raffle. Please, right now, put in your diary, calendar, phone, computer, or whatever you use, that you need to assist YOUR club on at least one of those days (and ask friend to help too). 30 th June 1 st July - Fraser Coast All Breeds Show Ring Stewards and Announcers are needed. 3 Fraser Coast All Breeds Show 30 th June 1 st July 2018 The program is available on the MARC website and Nominate website, and nominations are now open through Nominations close midnight Monday 25 th June 2018 On Saturday there are Led and Ridden classes for every breed and age of equine including ANSA, Appaloosa, Pure Arabian, Arabian Derivative, Australian Pony, Riding Pony, Saddle Pony, Pure and Part Welsh, Australian Stockhorse, Baroque, Colorama, Paint, Quarter Horse, Thoroughbred, Warmblood, Miniature and Small Horse AND if your horse is not on that extensive list, there are also classes for Unregistered or Other Registered equines! Young stock, Mare, Gelding and Stallion led classes (for each breed) Futurity Weanling, Yearling and Two Year Old classes 17 x Champion and Reserve Champion awards (for each led breed) 4 x Grand Champions for Led Youngstock, Mares, Geldings, and Stallions (of all breeds) Supreme Champion Led Exhibit (of all breeds, ages, sexes) and ridden classes for every breed, separated into Mare, Gelding and Stallion classes with 16 x Champion and Reserve Champion awards for each ridden breed 3 x Grand Champions for ridden Mares, Geldings and Stallions (of all breeds) Supreme Champion All Breeds Ridden Exhibit But wait, that is not all, there is more There is an evening program including Freestyle ride to music. This is a free choice workout to own choice of music lasting 2mins 30seconds to 3 minutes. All Breeds Challenge - with prizemoney for each phase, Hack, Working and Utility Patterns and Overall Challenge placegetters! What a program and that is just Saturday! 3

4 Sunday is ridden classes, with no specification of breeds, and includes Smartest on Parade - Junior and Adult Rider classes - Junior and Adult (including Tiny Tots, Lead Rein and Beginner classes) Hunter and Show Horse classes divided into all combinations of o Pony, Galloway and Hack o Small and large o Beginner, Maiden, Novice, and Open o Mare and Gelding / Stallion classes 4 x Champion and Reserve Champion Rider awards Supreme Champion Novice Rider and Supreme Champion Rider 12 x Champion and Reserve Champion ridden Hunter and Hack awards Supreme Champion Novice Hunter and Supreme Champion Novice Hack Supreme Champion Hunter of Show and Supreme Champion Hack of Show There are classes to encourage participants of all ages and skill levels with Beginner (walk and trot only) classes for adult riders as well as Tiny Tot, Lead Rein, and Beginner classes for juniors Beginner (walk and trot only) classes for Hunters and for Show Horses 4 x Consolation Led classes and 3 x Consolation Ridden classes In addition to the normal ribbons there are numerous Champion and Reserve Champion sashes, $ cash, other prizes and vouchers, plus the trophy rugs and garlands!! 4

5 3 rd June Dressage Event It was typical Queensland winter weather Perfect one day, better the next. Sunny, cool, a gentle breeze well actually freezing for the judges and pencillers in the shaded covered arena!.. but really we could not have asked for better conditions. The eastern sand arenas had been well watered and raked and seemed like a perfect outdoor riding surface, and the covered arena surface rode well too. It was nice to see many new faces (well for me anyway) and some returning after a long break. Also terrific to see some really pleasant calm Prep tests ridden alongside the more experienced Medium level classes. Thank you to the Judges, Julie Watson, Christine Allen, Jenny Rykoff, Sue Dale and Marilyn Costigan. Thank you to the organisers, Lynne Larkin and her band of assistants Ros, Karl, Dan, Marilyn, Leah, and Pam, who were grateful that the computers and printers co-operated and so the scoring was completed in good time. Thank you to the gear checks, pencillers, sheet collectors, arena builders and dismantlers. Thank you to the competitors, some of whom travelled long distances again. Well done to all. The results will be up on the MARC website very soon.
