2 Letter from the editor Sue Thurlow Well 2019 has kicked off well with a good attendance at both the Practise /Rally Day (9 th February) and the Dressage Training Competition (23 rd February). The next event will be the Open and Restricted Dressage event on 24 th March. Pencillers will be needed so if anyone can volunteer for a few hours, your club will appreciate it. Pencilling is an excellent way to learn more about what the judges are looking for. Sheet collectors will also be needed and of course volunteers to help set up the arenas. Please contact Lynne Larkin if you can help with any of these tasks. Included in this newsletter - - Report and photos from the 9 th February - Rally /Practise day 23 rd February Dressage Training Competition - Upcoming Events MARC Events Calendar I think members like to see photos in the newsletter and so I usually try to take some, but I will not be able to attend all events. I will not be able to attend the Spring Show or the All Breeds Show, so I would really appreciate if others can send in some photos or any items that may be of interest for club members. Remember to Renew your Membership memberships expire on 28 th February 2019 The easiest way is to go to the MARC webpage and scroll to the bottom of the page, then click on the Join or Renew button and go from there. Too easy! Limited or Annual Membership is available, but you need to have Annual Membership to accrue points towards End of Year Trophies. Sue Thurlow Message from Petrea Bates, MARC President 2019 Well our club got off to a great start with our dressage training day in February. It was so well attended with almost 50 tests ridden and it was so wonderful to see so many new and talented riders. The future of our club looks bright. Please keep in mind that suggestions are always welcome, as are ideas for rally days. I am currently in Tamworth with my young filly at Australian Stock horse Nationals. I look forward to meeting all our new members either at our club days or competitions. Petrea 2

3 Club of the year Awards. MARC was a finalist in the Dressage Queensland Awards and also in the Equestrian Queensland Awards and although we did not win this year, it is a credit to our club, (and especially those hard working committee members,) to be a finalist for these awards. Practise/Rally Day 9 th February 12 people attended with their horses, with 10 choosing to practise their dressage tests, with the other 2 choosing to lead/lunge their horses to familiarise them to the showgrounds and being amongst other horses. It was nice to see several new and young members. Jenny Birch & Big Rock have a led outing Julie Donovan with Bill Andrea Raynel with JLB Lacey Cindy White and her daughter, Charlotte, keep in step during their warm up in the lunge arena 3

4 Dressage Training Competition 23 rd February There were record entries for a training day. Thank you to the judges, Sue Dale in the morning, and Pam Thurlow in the afternoon, who gave spoken feedback to the riders immediately after their rides, as well as providing scored test sheets. Riders came from as far as Gin Gin and Gympie, and all seemed to enjoy the day. It was great to see lots of new members, including the children who rode well and are a credit to their parents and coaches. Several horses had their first outing, with some initially quite anxious, but they all settled and had a good experience. Results are on the MARC website. These ladies have contributed more than 135 years to MARC, and an average of more than 33 years each! And still smiling! Keith Smith, who designed the computerised scoring system, has very kindly offered to run a scoring workshop on this day, prior to the Open Official Competition next day. The workshop will be from 1pm at the Brolga Theatre. There is no cost to participants, but the scoring program and tests need to be uploaded to your laptop. Sunday 24 th March Open Official Dressage Event Covered and Eastern arenas. Flyer is on the MARC website and entries will be through Nominate. If you can assist with pencilling, sheet collection or scoring, (especially if you are not competing), please contact Lynne Larkin larkin26@bigpond.com Sunday 5 th May Car Boot Sale (during the Labour Day long weekend) There should be plenty of potential buyers as there is a Western Show in the Covered Arena and FCHT will be completing their ODE with Cross Country and Show Jumping. The Car Boot Sale will be on grass Public Car Park area beside Covered Arena. Sellers will be able to hammer in pegs for shelters if wanted. There will be a small fee of $5 per stall holder to cover our cost of hiring area. Start sorting and preparing surplus equine related equipment for sale!! Bundaberg Country Dressage Group and Hervey Bay Active Riders have upcoming Clinics and Dressage days. Check out their facebook pages. These are set by the Fraser Coast Regional Council. To book and/ pay for stables/yards, cleaning bonds, facility fees and camping. Payment by credit/debit card. Fees until 30 June 2019: Camping Fees: $20.40 per site per night (maximum 2 nights unless staying for an event at MSEP) Equestrian Facility Fees: $7.80 per horse per day when riding anywhere on the grounds OR $ Season Pass per person for 12 months from the date of payment, and $50.00 per person for any additional family members. Stable/Yard Fees: $7.80 per stable/yard from 6am to 6am or part thereof $23.00 per stable/yard cleaning bond payable in advance (refunded if stable is left clean) $11.30 per stable/yard cleaning fee payable in advance (optional no cleaning bond required) Stables/yards are locked and 48 hours notice is required when making a booking.
