3 DC & CI Report April 2018 AGM This Rally Please come along This lunch meeting our current committee will be stepping down in preparation for the new committee to be voted in, the kids will continue with their after lunch sessions as we only need the parents and older riders present. If you are not attending this rally but could attend it would be greatly appreciated as this meeting will decide who will be running your club for the next 12 months. May Rally and Pink Ribbon Day This Rally is moved to the 3 rd Sunday MAY 20 TH 2018 So our lovely and hard working mothers can enjoy breakfast in bed and a day of leisure. We will be also hosting our annual Pink Rally where we ask our riders and families to dress in all pink and bring extra cash to help raise funds and awareness for the Cancer Council s Pink Ribbon Day. SMZ Mini Tooradin Horse Trials May 27 th The Mini Tooradin Horse trials is open to grades 3 & 4 entering as teams of four and grade 5 riding as individual. We will be taking entries closer to the date, this will be submitted by each club s DC. We will again be required to supply volunteers and will be informed closer to the date please see the even on our Member s Group page. SMZ C Certificate Candidates We are getting our candidates ready for their C Certificates exposed and ready to ace the C Certificate so we will be asking them to help set up with the assistance of some families every rally. Please contact either of us for more info. **Riders who are 12 or older 2019, it's a great time to get started & ready for next year s assessment days** Keeping your horse comfortable Keeping horses comfortable is mostly about protecting them from the elements in winter, it is the wind chill factor which is greatly increased if the horse is wet or without any shelter. In summer, the suns beating rays land directly onto the horse and will make it difficult for nature to keep the horse cool. It is important to remember, that synthetic rugs capture radiant heat and can act like car windows to greatly increase temperatures inside the car. The outside temperature is magnified by 3-4 times the stated reading and even on a coolish day, sparkling mid-season sunshine can cause overheating. Synthetic horse rugs can cause over-heating and make the horse uncomfortable sweat, leaving the horse wet and when the sun goes down, the horse will be wet and cold. Signs that overheating is evidenced in the horses coat, the dried hair will look matted and stuck together, the mane becomes sticky and if over-rugging is continued, the hair follicles can be damaged and new growth may be affected. The ideal choice for mid-season rugging is canvas, as it is a natural woven fibre which breaths, does not overheat and yet provides protection from the wind and rain. A canvas rug with a cosy wool lining is a tried and true favourite for many astute horse owners and extra warmth can be added with the inclusion of wool or doona styled under-rug. It is always advisable to keep a cotton stable rug next to the horse s skin as this can be easily cleaned of hair debris and washed. Horses are complicated and delicate animals, and as with all horse care, rugging requires knowledge and attention. If you see a horse that is over rugged, don t be afraid to let their owner know. We all have to do our part for our equine friends. Doongala Pony Club Members Group An has gone out with the link to our new members only closed facebook group Here we will post all things for our members - notices, rally attendance and upcoming events. We will continue to keep our public group open as it is a good platform for advertising and local news. At the beginning of every new membership year we will remove any members who have not renewed and ensure all current /new members are added. We are really looking forward to this Sundays rally.
