Why, that is the SUN! With it comes flies, heat, sunburn, and bolting grasses. Time to break out the fly protection for your horses including masks, sprays and fly predators. Manure control is just as important as chemical weapons. Sunscreen can be necessary for both you and your horse if they have lots of white on their faces. And never leave a pet or a child in a car unattended. Even mild outdoor temps can lead to oven like conditions within a vehicle very quickly. Enjoy the sun! Whew! It is show season already! It seems like just yesterday the long dark nights and rainy days were here to stay. Several of our club members were out and about showing in May. Whitney Weston continues to show well on the east coast, with Gin Fizz finishing on her dressage score at the Ocala HT CCI* and placing ninth. She then went to Rolex as a spectator then on to Fairhill International where Thomas moved up to prelim. Jill Giri made her dressage debut with her 4 year old Cha Cha at Inavale Farm s Beaver Piaffe. They showed in Intro B and C. Cha Cha really rose to the occasion and place second in each class with a pair of 69%, with 8.5 s on the free walk for both tests! Geri Zickert rode two beautiful tests at First 2 earning a 72% and First 3 earning a 70%, and was Overall Reserve High Point Champion! Hope Flint turned in two respectable test on Reggie, the second with some added umph in Fun Show Just around the Corner Trot On! Things are starting to come together in the planning of the Summer Solstice Schooling show set for June 10 at Poco Loco Ranch. The entries as of the time of writing the newsletter were still sparse, but we are moving forward with the show. This is our opportunity to get out and have fun with a local dressage show, so get those entries in! If you are not feeling up to the challenge of riding in breeches, try the western dressage classes, with a western saddle and a slower pace they may be just what you are looking for! The closing the canter work when Reggie pretended like he could buck. Hope couldn t stop from laughing! As the calendar flips to June we have the ODS League Championship show and HS Dressage Championships. Lauren Baque, Samantha Smith,Alyssa Smith, Bailey Lynn and Quinn Iverson. are all doing the High school championship and open League show. Bailey and Quinn are both riding first level and everyone else will be competing at training level. Volunteers are still needed for the show in Salem, this is a great way to get out and help support ODS and the L show program and our HS Dressage program. date will be extended until June 5 to accommodate procrastinators, and answer any remaining questions about the show. The food will be provided by the Colliding Rivers Chapter, and judging from the food at the Debbie Spence Clinics, it will be worth coming just for the snacks! See you there!

Stephanie has passed from the inoperable brain tumor that was discovered just last month. Her family held a service in Sutherlin that was very well attended by the community. There was ongoing suggestions at the last meeting on how to further assist the family. They have received and thanked us for the HPHHP dontation, but many members wanted to do more. It was decided to revisit helping the family in a month or so, to give them time to decide on what would really help them the most. It could be organizing a tack sale, an additional donation, or just some elbow grease to help maintain a property. We will keep in contact with the family, and see what would be the most helpful to them in this most difficult time. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Stephanie, and will continue to do what we can to help them through this difficult time. Thank you to Bobbi and her husband for putting up with us and Happy Birthday to Bobbi!! -The meeting was called to order by Vice President Brooke Stark. President Hope Flint is in Montana at a veterinary conference. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. -The minutes from the last meeting were read and Geri made a motion to approve them as written, Jill seconded and all were in agreement -Treasurer s Report -HPHHP Fund-$ Interest-$1.36 -General Fund-$ Total-$ Correspondence -The Youman Family sent a thank you card for our clubs donation to them to help them with Stephanie s health care expenses. -Cindi Sanders has two highly trained horses that she is looking for homes for. Contact Cindi if interested. -Old business -Norma has been hosting the Monday night rides but has no takers so far. We need to start thinking about what we want to do about Monday night rides for next year. -The planning for the Dressage Summer Solstice Fun Show is in full swing. We have collected $ in sponsorship so far but always appreciate more sponsors. Transporting the dressage arena was discussed and we will be looking for helpers to move it when the time comes. We still need a volunteer to scribe for half a day and volunteers in other areas as well. -Poker ride-collette volunteered to be in charge of getting donations for the poker ride. Norma has flyers and members are encouraged to post them to get the word out. The changes in the management of the park will not affect this years Poker Ride. Members can camp for a small fee. Marilyn suggested that we dedicate a trail to Cheryl and all were in agreement. A suggestion was made that we mark the start of the trail better this year to avoid confusion. -New business -Stephanie Youman passed away at home surrounded by her family. A Memorial was held at the New Hope Church in Sutherlin Oregon. She will be greatly missed by our club and our hearts go out to her family. She was a great supporter of our club and was always there to lend a helping hand. -The Youman s may need some help in the future and we will let the membership know what is needed as things come up. -There are changes coming to Mildred Kanipe Ranch. The trust may be terminated and there is a possibility of some timber sales and more cattle leases. As of right now, the use of the park for Equine activities will remain. See the Friends of Mildred Kanipe Park website for more information. -Member news -Kim Rott will be married for 18 years. Congratulations Kim! (Continued on page 5)

We have been leaving the schedule up to arena directors instead of a fixed dressage/jumping rotation. So come on down and be surprised!

Riddle of the Month Last Months Riddles and Answers Riddle 1: Dave and Brad, two popular politicians, met at a club to discuss the overthrow of their party leader. They each ordered a vodka on the rocks. Brad downed his and ordered another. He then drank his second in a gulp and decided to wait before he ordered a third. Meanwhile, Dave, who was sipping his drink, suddenly fell forward dead. Both men were setup for an assassination. Why did Dave die and Brad live? Dave died because he sipped his drink, there was poison in the ice, which had time to melt Riddle 2: You have 9 golf balls. 8 of which are equal in weight. The ninth is slightly heavier then the rest. You also have a balancing scale. Can you use this scale two times and only two times in order to tell which ball is heavier? Yes. Weigh three balls on each side of the scale. If they are even, weigh two of the remaining balls, if they are even, the last ball is the weighted ball. If they are uneven, weigh any two of the heavier side.
