The objectives of this organization are to establish and maintain a permanent organization, for the benefit of it s membership and the general public, to promote the elements of the shooting sports, hunter education, marksmanship training, safe handling of all firearms, enforcement of game laws, the values of sportsmanship, and sportsmanlike conduct. In order to further these objectives, the organization will operate and maintain rifle, pistol, and shotgun firing ranges, owned, or rented, for the use and benefit of the members. The Old Fort Shootist Volume 7 November/ December 11 Issue 1 ew at the Range The new church is now complete. It is really a very nice addition to our range. We all would like to thank the men of Cavanaugh Free Will Baptist Church, 2825 Grinnell, Fort Smith, AR. They donated all the materials, time, and hard work to create the beautiful church. Holy Smoke (Will Harmon), Revelator (Russ Waggoner), Palestine Pete (Johnny Miller), John Grey Wolf (Don Shamp), and Cow Poke (Keenen Polk) are church members and SASS members who worked on this ot only did the men from Cavanaugh Free Will Baptist Church do the Church but they also put the roof on the Alma Restroom this pass month. A great group of guys. The Club had the tin and all the stuff but did not have the man power to do it. Thanks again A work day will be planned in the near future to finish the trim and fixtures.

Topics are from Shooting directors or what the directors feel the membership needs to know about. It does take time to get it out to you the reader. If you are reading this only in black ink it is mailed to you with extra expense on paper, printing and postage, but if you are reading this in color with color pictures you received an or are reading it off the web. You have received your copy faster then the ones we mail and also saved the club money. We thank you. We do realize that some still do not have PC s at home or . 3 It s Renewal Time In the next few weeks you will receive a renewal letter in the mail and or in your . The fees has not changed. It is due back on January 1, 12. If you have any Range Maintenance credit please attach to the renewal. It has been a great year. Most of our Range projects goals are finished. The next couple of years we will be looking at a large previlon and or Club house on the range. So we can have club meeting and large shooting events..state Matches in Small-bore Silhouette, SASS and Practical Pistol. This cannot be done with out your help and support. Get you renewal in early we will be changing the lock combination February 1, 12. Also Election Time At our annual December Club meeting we will be electing Club Officers, Shooting Directors and At- Large Directors. If anyone would like to get more involved in your Club please let a Director know soon. The is at least one opening that needs to be filled it is Club Secretary. This person takes notes at all club meetings and Board of Directors meeting and reports back to the membership at the next Club meeting. Did you know that many if not all of the Shooting Directors has been in their position for many years just because no one else would like to do it. They too need more asstains to make they job easier and enjoyable. OFGC is really no different then any other Club or Church, We have a lot of members and only a handful of workers doing most of the work. Get involved this is your Club. Arkansas Sectional Multi Gun Championship The weekend of October 29 and 30th was a busy one for our club. Our club sponsored the Arkansas Sectional Multi Gun Championship. We had a total of 109 shooters from 13 states that competed in 10 stages over the two days. I hope our members got a chance to come out and watch some of the best shooters around. We had several World Class shooters. I want to thank everyone for their patience since we had to close the range for 5 days while this was in process and for all the members and people that helped to make this match happen. We get a lot of compliments from the shooters about how nice a range we have. 4 What another unusual year. Earlier in the year it was cold and wet, summer came it was the hottest in history, by the time fall arrived the shooting season was over. Good turn out in most months. The shooters had more choices to birds than in the past. 50 birds or 100 birds this really made a differences who came to shoot or have fun. The ones who wanted more birds had to step up and shoot like the big boys in the last stages just moving the shooting boxes made a big difference on scores and how they shot the stage. Its all for fun and bragging rights anyway. Sometimes you re at the top of the list and other times your not. ext year will be another year with different stations all across the creek. We will be designing new station early next year. The stations that you love or hate will be gone and new ones are coming. We will start shooting again in February the 2nd Saturday. Come and join us break birds and have fun. Johnny Cole Sporting Clay Director Sporting Clays ew Shooting Targets The past several months now we have tried to replace most of the target frames and target back board more regularly. But about the time we get them all replaced we are replacing the new ones with newer ones. We have couple of new members are helping us out with target back boards and frames. They are cutting them out and make the frames for us. But it still cost money every time we have to do it. We just cannot get ahead of this. Please if you cannot hit the taget from the distant you are shooting please move forward and hit the target. If you need target boards replaced in a station there is always a few out at the maintenance building. They are there to be used for our members. We still are finding cans and bottles that is being used as targets, also this time of year we are finding large vegeules ( ok..pumpkins) theses are not acceptable targets and if seen doing this you will be ask to leave and not come back. They are also hard to clean up. Johnny Cole Straw boss Construction Continues on the SASS Area ow that we have the gallows complete and a church to send-off the no good scallywags, construction has started on Main street. ot sure if Main street will be the final title, but you can see the new deck in front of what will become the marshal s office, jail and shingled store front like the old west. More are planned including Miss Laura s for you cowhands who have been out on the range too long. With Miss Laura s and a saloon, what more would a cowboy need? Maybe a bath???? Page 4
