3 Letter From the President Spring is upon us. The hunting rifles are put away and now it is time to get the "fun" guns out. All of our club shooting sports will be going on now. Check out the Shootist for the shoot dates. We have almost finished the new silhouette stands for the folks that like to shoot the real small steel animals. Sporting clays is back in full swing, with one new thrower that can throw a surprise or two. Steel challenge starts in March, get the 22's or bigger pistols out and have some fun. IPSC and CMP never shut down, that's the hard core folks that shoot regardless of the weather. If you were like me and stayed home when the weather was bad you can still shoot with these guys. They won't give us too hard of a time. Cowboy Action is back in full swing and growing with ever shoot. These shooters may dress a little funny, but they sure have fun. Don't forget Hunter pistol and Cowboy rifle the targets are bigger, but still hard to hit. (if you shoot like I do) We have youth shoots planned and something for the ladies coming up this summer. There is also fun to have other than at the range. The Friends of RA banquet is March th. Come on out, you may win a gun or another nice prize. Win or not you will have fun and some good food. We are still working on the ranges and have work days tentatively planned. OFGC had a great year in 10 and plan on having a better year in 11. If gasoline gets as high as they are saying it will, come on out to the range. You can have just as much fun there as you can driving several miles for a vacation. Bill Striplin OFGC President ext Work Day Would you like to Work off your Range Maintenance fee for 12? March th at 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Come out to the River Range and plan to work with other members. We need weed eaters, paint brushes, ladders, drop cloths and some hard workers, Also some members can help with setting up IPSC on that Saturday. Lunch will be provided at this Workday. We will be planning more Work Days soon at both ranges. Sign-in starts at 9:30 and shooting begins at 10:00. We usually have 6 stages with round counts of around 60 for each pistol, rifle and shotgun. Set up will be May 28, 11 beginning at 9:00. 4 Practical Pistol Practical Pistol continues to shoot the third Sunday of each month. Sign in at 0930, shooters meeting at 1000, then the gun fight starts, and the fun begins. In February, good weather brought out 48 shooters. Every level of shooters, from first-timers to Grand Masters, but everyone had fun. More importantly, everyone learned a little more about how to handle a handgun in a pressure, defensive situation. Are you confident that you could stop the threat, or are you going to point and shoot and hope the noise scares off the intruder. Practical Pistol prepares you for the unexpected, and you'll have fun with a bunch of great people in the process. If you own a handgun for self defense, there are three principals for effective use of that gun: First, practice. Second, practice some more. Third, practice still some more. Come join us. You will be amazed at how much you will learn, even in the first event. Then you will be hooked, and continue to learn for years to come. Bruce Bethell, Director, Practical Pistol Range Improvements Many projects are still on going. We now have new rifle racks on all the big bays and 50, 100, 300 and Alma yard ranges. Big Thanks to Dale and Debby Pankratz and Johnny Cole. These are heavy duty, treated and should last a long time. Last week we were able to pour the foundation on the trap house at the 300 yard range, soon it will be up and going. Our next project is concrete shooting benches for the 50 and 300 yard ranges. The blocks have been delivered and should be finish in a few weeks if the weather turns warm again soon. Our next project will be the roof on the Alma restroom. Once again the weather has not been good to get out there to work. In the next couple of weeks we should be able to start working on that project too. We will need some extra helpers to get all this done. If you can help please contact me. 5 Sporting Clays Sporting Clays started last month with 4 inches of snow on the ground with 21 shooters. What a great time everyone had. Everyone was able to see and shoot our newest thrower. We will continue coming up with different ways to shoot Sporting Clays. We shoot the 2nd Saturday of each month February through October. Setup begins at 7:30 am at the Alma range and March we will start shooting at 10:00 am and April we move it back to 9:00 am. The cost is only $12.00 for Adults, $6.00 for youth shooting 50 birds and no charge for youth shooting 25 birds. If you want to shoot 100 birds the cost is only $.00. ew just started in March. Johnny Cole Sporting Clay Director Home on the Range Well is wasn't exactly Home on the Range, but if you were at the River Range on February th or th, when we had the largest turn out since re-starting back up in Sept of 10 you saw 41 shooters dressed in cowboy gear. We had two great days of shooting Cowboy Action. Our club had shooters from Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. Missouri Ruffian was the overall winner on Saturday. aildriver bested the smaller group that came back to shoot on Sunday. Our stages are coming along as we continue to build. This month we added a flag pole, donated by Ponca Pete (Bill Maddox), and a fire ring acquired by, aildriver (Bob Gleason), donated to the club by Arkola. Cowboy Shooters supply came out from Fort Towson. OK. Cowboy Action is only going to get better at OFGC. Come on out and give it a try, if you just come to watch, you'll soon want to try it. Our next shoots are Saturday March th and Sunday March th. It s the third Saturday and the following Sundays. We are planning start building the Gallows in March.. We will let everyone know when we plan a work day. Still looking for a Marshall office if ya have a source let us know thanks for your support... aildriver SASS Assistant Director Steel Challenge After the winter cold spell, Steel Challenge is back at OFGC. This Saturday, March 5, and every 1st Saturday of each month, but May, through October the challenge will be back up. Set up will start at 0830 Saturday morning. Please, come out and help get things started for this new season. Sign in will start around 0930, with shooters meeting set for Match fee is only $10, or shoot two guns (different divisions) for only $15 for both. Expect 6 stages, for a minimum round count of 150 for each gun. Remember that Steel Challenge can be shot with.22, so this is a great way to get involved in competition shooting at a cheap cost for ammo. Please remember, we run a cold range at OFGC, so all firearms should be brought to the Range cased and unloaded. Handle guns only under the supervision of a Range Officer, or in the designated Safe Areas. With a lot of people with a lot of guns, we are real particular about gun safety. Please, follow the directions of the Range Officers, they are there for the sole purpose of making this sport safe for everyone. Remember, Range Officers have full authority to send you home for unsafe gun handling Be cool, be safe, and enjoy a safe match. Also have two new Assistant Directors, Jason and CJ Striplin.
