Heatstroke can occur in temperatures as low as 57 degrees. At 80 degrees a car can reach deadly temperatures in 10 minutes. A child s body absorbs more heat than an adult s does. A core body temperature of about 107 degrees is lethal. Parking in the shade does not help. Safety Tips Never leave an infant or child unattended in a vehicle. Make a habit of looking in the vehicle - front and back - before locking the door. Leave a reminder note on the dashboard for when you exit the vehicle. Ask your childcare center to call you if your child doesn t arrive on time for childcare.
