1 Indy Mopar Club News October 2014 Jan Peel Editor Tom Kelly, President Evan Springer, Vice President Mike Leyes, Treasurer Dave Opel, Secretary Dave Watt, Communications Director Meetings are the last Thursday of every month except November & December. Next regular meeting: Thursday, October 30, 2014 will be held at MCL Cafeteria, 3630 South East street Indianapolis (US 31- N of Southern Plaza between Sumner & National). Meet for dinner at 6pm, meeting at 7pm. A Map Quest link is available on the IMC website From Indy Mopar Club (IMC) President: It s getting pretty chilly out and the leaves are turning so don t forget to get those Mopars out and take a nice leisurely drive yet this fall while you can. The Indy Mopar Club had some outstanding events the past few weeks and I hope you were able to participate. On Saturday Sept 27, Ken Mosier s Finer Details car club party had beautiful weather, some phenomenal automobiles, another chance to tour his fascinating facility, delicious food and a thoroughly rockin band. Allie Miner got everyone registered, kept everything organized and even got drenched with ice water along with Ken to raise funds for charity to close it out. It all combined to make one awesome party. Thanks Ken & Allie and crew! We followed that on Saturday October 4th with a nice Club turnout for the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) Run/Walk in Military Park in Indianapolis. We had seven of our club vehicles on display along with our banner and at registration, the group presented JDRF with our IMC/Westgate Chrysler donation of $ Randy Smith and his little wonderdog Dickie (our new club mascot??), brought a box full of IMC logo balloons to hand out to the young and young at heart. Once filled by club members with free helium donated by Sutton Garten Welding Supply (Thank You!!!) as arranged by Rick & Ginger Zimmerman, we had lots of smiling children around our tent. They later scurried along the grounds and IUPUI campus area walkways with blue Indy Mopar Club balloons flying high. In fact, though we made great effort to tie loops on IMC October 2014 Page 1

2 the balloon ribbons so the kids could hang on, some balloons flew much higher over Indy than others! I suspect the IMC logo has been seen in many of the counties northeast of Indy based on the wind direction that day The next event of note was the tour of Ray Skillman s Classic Car Museum in Greenwood on October 16, organized by Club VP Evan Springer. The Skillman staff were most gracious hosts. Car Quest auto parts stores & tool distributor groups who were also touring that day, even shared their buffet and drinks with our group. We even got to see their restoration & race shop where a number of Ray s NHRA Stock and Super Stock cars were in various states of preparation. His collection of old mechanic s diagnostic machines, tools, trolling motors, miniature pedal cars and anything automotive is phenomenal and a must see. It is generally open to the public. 3 Though I was not able to attend Dave Sander s Fall Cruise on Sunday Oct.19, I ve already had feedback that it again exceeded all expectations. Jan Peel said she had a wonderful time and will cover the event and pics. A big thanks to all who helped organize and participated in making this one of our busiest and most enjoyable months ever! Last note, Club officer nominations are this month with elections in November. Again, I d urge you to consider helping the Club in some capacity. See you at the MCL on Thursday 30th. Would be nice to see some Halloween costumes again this year if you dare!! Tom Kelly Oct 2014 INDY MOPAR CLUB MONTHLY MEETING, SEPTEMBER 25, 2014 PRESIDENT TOM KELLY brought the meeting to order at 7:00pm. Prior to the meeting Tom had photos of Mopar Nationals being shown on his movie screen. WELCOME AND SIGN-IN: Sign-in was conducted by Jan Peel. 25 Attended: Brian Berkowitz, Ronda Cherry, Dick & Dorinda Crawmer, Bill & Randi Edgerton, Tony Fields, Tom Kelly, Ron Kriech, Ed Leyes, Mike Leyes, Larry & Susan Mayes, Dave Opel, Rick Ordo, Jan Peel, Dave Sanders, Randall Smith, Steve & Cheryl Wisdom, and guests John Heeringa, Lynn Standeford and son Brian, Bill Hess, and Gary Bastin. SECRETARY S REPORT: Dave Opel Highlights of the minutes from the August meeting were presented. The minutes were approved as read with no corrections. TREASURER S REPORT AND MEMBERSHIP UPDATE: Mike Leyes reported the balance as of August 28 was $2, Income for September was $1, Expenses for September were $ Balance for September 25 is$3, Flower Fund $ IMC October 2014 Page 3

4 COMMUNICATIONS REPORT: Dave Watt No report as Dave was absent. MEMBERSHIP BIRTHDAYS AND ANNIVERSARIES: Ronda Cherry read the birthdays and anniversaries for the month of October in the absence of Vice President Evan Springer. EVENT HIGHLIGHTS: Tom Kelly reported on futures events in the absence of Evan Springer. EVENT ADVERTISING: Ronda Cherry no report. OLD BUSINESS: Tom Kelly: A. Tom gave information on the Finer Detail / Club cookout event, Saturday, Sept. 27 th, 11am to??? for IMC, MMOI, Street Machines Ltd. Ken Mosier will be supplying the BBQ, & band. Participants are to bring a dish, chairs, cooler & drinks. IMC to supply plates, cups, and napkins. Tom to be reimbursed. B. Upcoming Club Events 1. JDRF Walk October 4 at Military Park. a vehicles requested Steve Wisdom, Tony Fields, Bill Edgerton, Tom Kelly, Dave Sanders, Dick Crawmer, Larry Mayes, and Ronda Cherry to bring cars. b. 250 IMC Balloons ordered by Randy Smith with helium arranged for by Rick Zimmerman. c. Donation of $1,506 from Westgate will be presented that day. 2. Washington Square Cruise-Ins Friday nights as weather permits Ronda Cherry is contact. 3. Respectfully submitted, David Opel Dave Sanders Fall Cruise October 19, 2014 It was a cool but beautiful day for cruising with Mother Nature showing all her splendor with the beautiful trees in their fall colors. We met on the east side of Indy and WOW, the beautiful cars just kept rolling in, 23 in total. A policeman even stopped to look our group over, I m not sure if the cars or the people were the attraction for him. Several of the group tried to talk him into escorting us on our trip but he declined. IMC October 2014 Page 4

5 Dave handed out directions and a map, not telling us what was exactly in store for us. Now keep in mind that most of these cars were basically new and/or powerful Mopars. Dave announced that they would allow Jan Peel and her boyfriend to join in Bob s 2009 Saturn. We then headed out. Dave did an excellent job keeping the group together as much as possible through the whole trip. We soon got into some really curvy roads and the pedals really hit the metal. At the Brau Haus we were quickly seated and served an excellent meal. Below is most of our group. IMC October 2014 Page 5

It was a totally great tour. Thanks to Dave Sanders for again making this a memorable tour and to Larry Mayes for arranging the tour at Larry Bell s.
