1 October/November 2010 Newsletter FROM THE PRESIDENT Freddie Jones Hello again fellow Mississippi Corvette Club members and Corvette enthusiasts. The month of September was focused on our annual event, Vettes by the Lake All Corvette Show at Mirror Lake Plaza, while October was Cruisin the Coast. Despite the very hot and humid weather, it turned out to be our best show yet in the category of raising money for Make- A- Wish, even though we had a few less cars. We did pick up a number of entries from out of state that we did not have in the past. I would like to commend Robert Ellis and all the club members who pitched in and made this event such a success. So many members did so much to make our show such a success it would be difficult to try and name just how much everyone did on it. It takes a great deal of work to put on one of these events, but our club members showed that they are up to the task. How about all those Scooter Coolers running around the show provided by Pete Tyer! He, too, has proven to be a real asset to our club. What a team! Talk about hot, I just returned from a week in San Luis Opisbo, CA, where the temperature ran consistently between degrees all week. The odd thing is that you could drive 25 miles west and find the temperature about 60 degrees cooler. Having been there makes you proud to be a Mississippian, even if it is a little hot and humid sometimes. I got back just in time from Ohio to go on the drive for Cruisin the Coast. It was a great outing with good friends and we had a great lunch at Mary Mahoney s. If you missed it, you really missed a good time. I think we decided that next year due to the crowd, we will take chairs and find some shade and watch the cars cruising up and down Highway 90. With the fall upon us, business should be picking up. Robert Ellis is busy planning out a route for our fall Poker Run. Before you know it, is will be time for our Veteran s Event to Camp Shelby. I will get everything final on it the week after I get back from Idaho and have the information out on it prior to the November meeting. Also, be thinking of our Christmas party so we can discuss and do all the planning at the November meeting.

2 The work on our Corvette tag is still going strong thanks to the hard work Tom Gerity is putting into it. We are at the point of finalizing the tag design for submission to General Motors for approval. I cannot wait until we get it approved and sell enough to be able to buy them. Remember, we are always open to any ideas anyone has for a weekend drive. Members are encouraged to give us ideas so we can see more of our great state. Please provide your information to Allison so she can begin working the logistics on them. We want to schedule what everyone wants to do. See you at the next meeting, but until then keep on driving and smiling and save the wave. 4 Vettes by the Lake III Mississippi Corvette Club Third Annual All Corvette Show The Mississippi Corvette Club successfully sponsored their Third Vettes by the Lake Corvette show with proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation on September 11, The day started off with registration. A total of 48 beautiful Corvettes registered for the show. The Mississippi Army National Guard, Color Guard, presented the flags while taps were played with everyone at attention. This day served as a memorial to those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, at the World Trade Center. Vendors included, Ro Chez of Ridgeland, providing food, and BOP S Ice Cream. The Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY, had representatives selling shirts, caps, jackets, etc. during the show. The Shurtleff s sold coffee and donuts early in the day. Jackie Thompson, Mr. Hour of the Fifties, spun good old 50 s music throughout the day. Rogers-Dabbs Chevrolet brought two gorgeous Corvettes for display, along with Freddie Jones Z06. Door prizes were given during the day and 50/50 tickets were sold. The total amount of the 50/50 pot was $374 with $187 going to Make-A-Wish. At 10:00 a.m. the judging took place. There were two gentlemen, non-members of the MSCC, who did the judging. They judged by class, Stock and/or Modified. The Mississippi Army National Guard had participants to vote for their favorite Corvette. They sponsored the Children s Choice Award and Sponsor s Choice Winner. After the judging, the scores were tallied and results were announced after the auction. The auction was very successful also; a football signed by Archie Manning and Eli Manning, auctioned for $850, a New Orleans Saints Jersey signed by Drew Brees, auctioned for $1000. Other items sold for $50 to $75. BankPlus was generous again this year with their donation of $1500, and first time donor, Farese Group of Ridgeland donated $500. It was fun for young and old. Overall the day was a great success and a lot of fun, despite the heat. We were able to donate $5000+ to Make-A-Wish.

6 Mike Bush Takes Delivery of New Corvette Mike Bush and his daughter, Carly, arrived at the Corvette Museum at 7.30 a.m. Monday, November 1. Mike said that everyone there was very gracious and helpful. As he was going to look at the car, they had the prep man inform him there was a issue with the car he could not live with, which were some pecks on the hood. The prep man had the factory replace the hood, a selling point for museum delivery and a real good one. Then after signing the paper work, his personal delivery experience man, Ron, took Mike and Carly to the factory for their personal tour, which was fascinating and very informative. After the tour, which included

7 Mike birthing a white coupe, they returned to the museum for their tour and delivery process. It was a very exciting and informative day and well-worth the time and money, Mike said. THE DAVID COWARD MEMORIAL POKER RUN Hosted by the Mississippi Corvette Club Fellow MSCC Members, sports car, truck and motorcycle Enthusiasts, come join us for a funfilled day of cruising, eating, and getting to know each other a little better. The charity we will be sponsoring is the Blair E. Batson hospital in Jackson, Ms. Remember, the bigger the crowd, the more we can donate to this great charity. Details and route: The poker run will be held on Saturday, November 6 th and is open to any and all cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc. Route: we will travel from the Madison Landing in Ridgeland and head south on the Natchez Trace to Lorman, Ms. where we will have lunch at the Old Country Store After lunch, we will leave Lorman, MS and travel back up Hwy 61 to Vicksburg, MS and have our last stop at the Outlet Mall, where we will draw our final card for the 50/50 pot. This will be the end of our poker run since some may want to shop or attend one of the casinos in the area. However, those who want to caravan back to Jackson can get together and do so following the 50/50 presentation. 09:30am Arrive at Madison Landing in Ridgeland and check in and draw first card. 10:00am Depart Madison Landing and head south for Rocky Springs on Natchez Trace. 10:45am Arrive at Rocky Springs for Restroom break and drawing of card # 2.

8 11:15am Leave Rocky Springs and head for Lorman, Ms. 12 Noon Arrive at Lorman, Ms. for lunch and draw card #3. 1:00pm Draw card #4 and head for Vicksburg, Ms. 2:00pm Arrive at Vicksburg Outlet Mall and draw card #5. Award 50/50 pot.
