1 CAPITOL CITY CORVETTE CLUB Montgomery, Alabama Minutes of the meeting Tuesday, September 6, 2011 The meeting convened at the Ox Yoke Restaurant in Wetumpka. Larry Martin, President, called the members to order at 7 PM. SECRETARY S REPORT: Julie Hall, Secretary, reports that the minutes of the last meeting have been distributed in the usual manner via . A hard copy of the minutes is on hand for review, and with no objections noted, a motion was made and passed to accept the minutes as distributed. MEMBERSHIP REPORT: Lanna Alwine welcomed all members and guests. She introduced new member, Fred Ayers, with a Z06 that he s had for about a month. This month s birthdays include: Jeff Williams, Josie Gordon, Shannon Johnson, Doug Clemens, Jon Briggs, Butch Geng, Donald Morse, Ann Smith, Averil Loague, and Gil Brown. Several name tags are in as are the club shirts. Please see Lanna for these items. Also, please see Lanna if you have not ordered a club shirt and need to do so. The name tags have been redesigned. TREASURER S REPORT: Barbara Bailey, Treasurer, reports that as of August 31, we had $3, in checking and $2, in savings for a total of $5, At present, we have 73 members in current good standing. ACTIVITIES REPORT: Past events: Jimmie Middleton spoke about the Labor Day National Corvette Museum event. He said that Ron Fellows and two others were inducted into the Hall of Fame at the NCM. Ron Fellows was surprised with a special edition one of a kind Corvette Z06. It is red with white stripes. Currently, anyone who buys a new ZR1 gets a free trip to the Ron Fellows racing school. Mike Alwine said the Sonic poker run had a good turnout. Everyone had a good time. Mike traded in the Camaro for a supercharged Camaro SS and took down Sassy (Mark Reese). Jo Alexander ran down both of them in her Grand Sport. See Mike, Mark or Jo for the complete embellished story. First, second, and third place winners were Gary

2 Carter, Jeff Williams, and Brenda Whetstone, respectively. Mike will work on setting up a second annual poker run. Janet Reese presented a thank you card from the school benefited by the poker run to Mike and Sonic. Janet said there were many additional items and money donated to the school as a result of the poker run. She said the school still needs hardcover dictionaries if anyone would like to donate them. Mark Reese said the drag racing event will be pushed back to November as there are too many events occurring in October. Mark mentioned that the Zemos have a cruise in in Gadsden. We may work on a trip to go there and drive the Little River Canyon sometime in November. Mike Alwine said some people have expressed interest in a show or cruise in at the Millbrook Sonic. Mike is working on this and it may come soon.

4 AMBASSADOR S REPORT: OJ Webster, NCM Ambassador, announced that there would be a very good article in the Montgomery Advertiser tomorrow about the Eastchase car show. The writer approached OJ several months ago about Flip s and he told her about the show so she came back for that information. About 23 Corvettes left the NCM and went through the Tail of the Dragon. There was a 67 big block car that kept up with OJ in the first third of the route before falling back due to the driver s exhaustion. Thirty other cars joined the group in Concord, NC as they all toured the Charlotte Motor Speedway, including driving around the track. They also toured Rick Hendrick Motorsports and Dale Jr. Motorsports. Rick Hendrick has over 350 cars in pristine condition. These are not usually for public display. Only because of the association with the museum was everyone able to view this collection. Jon Briggs mentioned that Rick Hendrick has about 100 cars listed for sale on the internet. Jimmy Davis said this collection was better than Jay Leno s collection. Jimmy asked how much it costs to sponsor a race car. $30 million was the answer. He then asked which state buys the most tickets to the races in North Carolina. There were two, Pennsylvania and Ohio. All of Dale Jr. s cars are either Chevrolets or have Chevrolet motors. Jimmy was able to lag back and got up to about 90 mph one time on the track as he was last in line. Jimmy said they were able to watch some practice runs. OJ mentioned that GM has built their 100 millionth small block engine. OTHER: Jerry Lowery mentioned that he and Roger Lavender are working on the website. They will post only the most recent club minutes there. There is a Route 66 page on the site. Pictures from the poker run will be added as well as the Montgomery Advertiser article. Larry mentioned that we still need club functions for October and November. If anyone has any ideas, please let Larry know. December s club function will be the Christmas party. Larry passed out handouts for the Eastchase show. These showed all who were scheduled to work. There are still some areas in which help is needed, including registration and 50/50 ticket sales. Ken Carter mentioned that the valve cover racing will be manned by the GM High Performance Club. He also pointed out that the valve covers can be built without destroying the valve cover. He brought one to show as an example. There will be two classes by weight. There will be first, second, and third place prizes in each class. They need awards for these prizes.

5 Steve Badalamenti mentioned that he and Brenda went to Ashville, NC and drove up the Blue Ridge Parkway. He said it is a beautiful drive. Larry presented a new photo of the club in front of the OxYoke to Cindy Brown, coowner of the Ox Yoke, to hang in the restaurant. Dennis Hogan mentioned that reruns of the TV series, Route 66, can still be viewed on television. He said in Ohio there is a restaurant called Quaker Steak and Lube that has a Dale Earnhardt car on display. There is also one of these in North Carolina. Mike Alwine won the 50/50 for $70. Also, Steve Badalamenti and Betty Hogan won Ox Yoke gift cards, Jo Alexander and Jimmy Davis won car care kits, and Betty Hogan won an Auburn seat belt pad. Larry adjourned the meeting at 8 PM.
