Jim Rizzuti is thinking of planning a road rally and want to know how many members would be interested. This would be a time/speed event. The course would be about 120 miles and take about three hours with a couple check points along the way. By a show of hands there were many members interested so Jim will continue to work on it with a date tentatively in early November. There was a discussing about the dues and a motion was made Don Helms and seconded by Bill Bordwine to set the dues at $30 for new members and at $25 for renewing members effective January first 2014.the motion passed and notice will be provided to the membership before a vote next month. See the Presidents message later in the newsletter for more details. Tony showed and spoke about a gentleman that s making a Fanny Mat for your corvette it s a cover to put over the back edge of the corvette for when you re loading stuff into the corvette it s protected. They have corvette logos or custom logo printed on them for a cost of $20. If we get orders for 10 he will ship them to us for free. Tony asked that the members start getting some donations for the silent auction and bringing them to the meetings. Remember the charity we will be supporting with the proceeds of the corvette show is Jeff Gorden drive to end hunger. TECH-TIPS Allen recommended if you have your corvette painted to be sure to get some touchup paint from the body shop at the time the corvette is painted as colors can be hard to match at a later date. Reminders: Send a photo of you and your spouse (if you have one) in front of your Corvette to Webmaster John Talatanian at jtdamage@gmail.com. so he may post it on our website. This will allow both new and old members to know what you look like and what your corvette looks like.

4 Next Membership meeting: 6:30PM on July 9th, at Jeff Gordon Chevrolet Used Car building. The meeting was adjourned at 7:35PM. Afterwards a group of members cruised to Carrabba s for a social gathering and meal. PRESIDENT S MESSAGE

5 Presidents Message At the March 12 membership meeting, the issue was raised of changing the bylaws to increase new members dues to $30. This small increase would help pay for the name tags we give new members and spouses. Renewal dues would remain $24. It is also hoped that this will encourage members to get their dues payment in before March 1, as after that date they would be dropped from the roster and considered as new members reapplying to the club. This required a bylaws change to be voted on at the next meeting. See proposed change below in red. Proposed change to By-Laws: Article VI - Annual Dues: "2. Annual dues are: $30 for Full membership for new members $15 if joining with less than 6 months left in calendar year $25 annual renewal if paid between January 1 and March 1 $30 annual renewal if paid after March 1" This proposed change was supposed to be voted on at the April 9, 2013 meeting. However, this has not yet been brought to a vote. At the June 11, 2013 meeting, two additional changes were proposed: Motion 1: The annual renewal will be changed from $24 to $25. Motion #2: The stated amount of the dues will be removed from the by-laws and shall be determined by a majority vote of the members present at a membership meeting. All these proposed changes will be on the agenda to be voted on at the July 9 membership meeting. Any changes approved by the membership will become effective beginning with the 2014 calendar year.

9 IT S NOT ABOUT THE TROPHY On June 1, 2013, I had the pleasure of attending the Myrtle Beach Corvette Club s 18 th annual Corvette show. It was by far the largest gathering of Corvettes that I have seen in our part of the country. I understand that there were about 300 Corvettes in the show. And I think it would be safe to say there were 100 more driving by and in the parking areas outside of the show. And, Cape fear Corvettes was well represented. Once again we brought home the trophy for Largest Club Participation. So, what s my point? It s not about the trophy. It s not about the opportunity to meet and talk with other Corvette enthusiasts. It s not even about all the great cars. It s about the primary purpose of many of these car clubs. It s about the opportunity to support some great charities. If you check our By-Laws, you will see that the number one stated purpose for the Cape Fear Corvette Club is Charity. The Myrtle Beach Club made substantial donations to two organizations at this year s show. I m sorry that I don t have the names of the organizations. One was to an organization that helps homeless children complete high school by providing both physical and emotional support. The second award was to a gentleman who trains adopted dogs to be service dogs for disabled US military veterans. We had a great time watching some of these animals in action. This September we will be having our annual Corvette show and we hope to raise some significant money for our charity, the AARP Drive To End Hunger. So ask yourself, why should the other Corvette Clubs come to Wilmington to support our charity. To see Wilmington? Because we do a great job putting on our event? To win a trophy? Sure, all of those are good reasons. But, I believe a lot of people come because we support their events. Some of us don t attend any of these shows for various and totally understandable reasons. Some don t want to sit in the hot sun all day. Some don t want their car judged. (Being judged is totally optional at every show.) Schedule conflicts prevent us from going. Health issues and family obligations come first, every time. But, with over 70 members in our Club, I am suggesting that we could do a lot better. I would like for all of us to consider doing the following. If you can t attend other Club s functions, pick one or two each year and send in your paid reservation form anyway. Tell them you can t make it but would like to show your support for what they are doing. If you can, register and go to the show even if you can only stay for a couple of hours. If we all do a little something extra, I ll bet we could see the Jeff Gordon parking lot overflowing at our next show. Yes, we brought home another great looking trophy. But remember, it s not about the trophy! Jim Martin Membership Chairman

10 Ambassador Report June 2013 Donald Paulson Master Ambassador & Life Member NCM See me on how easy it is to become a member of the NCM. You can join thru me or go directly to to join, just let me know so I can recognize you at our next meeting. NCM Motorsports Park LIKE us on facebook to find out all the latest information. Thanks to YOU... WE DID IT!!! Not only did we hit our $1 million goal over the Bash weekend, but we exceeded it by $95,471! Because you helped us achieve this milestone in our fundraising efforts we will be including the West Track as part of the initial construction of the Motorsports Park. The Motorsport Park Project Committee is continuing to look at specific pricing on various aspects and combinations for development of the park. NCM Management and the Board of Directors plan to make a special announcement at the groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, June 28 as to the amount of the park development that will be included with the initial construction. We are so pleased that the West track will be included, thanks to the support of Corvette enthusiasts, members and friend, from all over. The support each individual and club has made for this project is a strong testament to potential sponsors. We will continue to network with companies who are a good fit to have their name associated with the park. If you have any connections that could help us, please contact Wendell ( ) or Connie ( ). Excitement is growing as we keep driving the dream! Wendell Strode, Museum executive director,
