1 June 2008 Newsletter The BLUE DEVIL Corvette Blue Devil Confirmed and in Final Tuning Phase Chevrolet will unveil at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show a more powerful version of the Corvette Z06: the Corvette ZR1, initially called Blue Devil during its development phase by most of the press. The ZR1 will be priced around $100,000. The ZR1 comes as a direct response at the Dodge Viper unveiled at Detroit Auto Show. 3 May 2008 Club Meeting Minutes, by Janie Wilson and Leslie Mayeaux Mississippi Corvette Club met May 1, 2008 at the Islamorada (Bass Pro Shop) Restaurant with approximately 23 in attendance. Joe Miceli opened the meeting and welcomed guests: A special welcome to guests Don & Jerry Roberts. Joe and Gloria Miceli are the proud grandparents of a granddaughter, AnaMaria. She and mother, Robin, were in attendance. Scott Black has a new grand-daughter, Elizabeth Lanai born last week. Congratulations on these new addition. June 21 will be THE DAY that B.J. and Don Johnson will get married. Sympathy is extended to Major Combs who recently lost his brother. Please pray for Tommy Ladner's mother and Doug "Duwat" Henslee. Club members sang happy birthday to the May birthday club members. Ed Robinson was the only birthday celebrant present at the meeting. Birthday cake was enjoyed by all in attendance after the meeting. Treasury Report - Debbie out of town. Insurance papers for our car show will be filled out and payment made upon Debbie s return. Minutes of the April meeting were accepted as written, motion made by Leslie Mayeaux, second by Kirby Wilson. Discussion of events this month: Blue Suede Cruise Texas - LoneStar event -We know that Paul Jones, Rene Tipper & B.J. will be going. Car Show - Vicksburg June Ameristar Casino Kirby gave high lights of the Ameristar Car Show. Discussed staging map. 7:30-9:00 registration in staging area. Leave the staging area to the new parking garage for the ribbon cutting ceremony. Then the cars will be parked in another area. There is ample parking for all attending. There will be two armbands issued per car. These armbands will allow participants to partake in the free food, etc. Cameras will be set up to tape this event. There will be a car wash set up there w/ water & buckets available. Hoods will remain closed. Handouts with the event prize information were distributed. The awards are very lucrative! Cash prizes. 4 Joe discussed his trip to Bowling Green last week. Road tour, celebrity signing with Dave Hill. He sat in the new Blue Devil ZR-1 Bowling Green Car Show news: Paul Graham and Dave Hill judged Joe's car. He had an exciting trip with hundreds of Corvettes and a preview of the 2009 cars. Joe's car was one of the winners of the C5 -C6 celebrity's choice! Tech tips: Joe passed out the newsletter which discussed the rear differential problem with the fluid mixture. After 3 months they have now discovered the right fluid. There is a TA bulletin with a part number that is listed in Joe's newsletter. Ebony interior cars - may have some white spots on the dash due to the moisture coming out of the material. Solution is Murphy's oil 3-4 times or the Meguiar s leather treatment. Joe will send out more info on these solutions. Cost for Mirror Lake Show will be about $ for the club. Bobby White will be providing the music. Hemmings Motor News will have ads in their Aug.& Sept.issues and will provide some of the awards for the show Caravan - brochure was handed out. Please register now if you are planning on going. Ray Riley won the drawing of $ New Business: Club by-laws The amended articles were discussed, these were approved in the Feb meeting. These will be signed and put on the website. Section I, Article 2, membership - will be restricted to owners and enthusiasts of Corvettes... and sponsored by a current club member and attend two (2) club meetings and one (1) event. In the past these by-laws were not adhered to, regarding the membership. Motion to adhere to the by-laws was made by Ed Robinson, and seconded by Kirby Wilson and Wanda Riley. No opposition in voting. Discussion of what new & existing members would receive when joining the club. Polo style shirts were discussed for all members and new members to be paid by club as well as name tags. One shirt per forty dollar ($40) membership will be paid by the Club. Monies earned from the MSCC Vicksburg car show will pay for this. Extra shirts can be purchased. Question: Does Monogram Express have ability to use the C6 Corvette Logo? Joe will look into this. C5 Logo is approved. Motion made by Ron Gaddy, second by Ray Riley for club to provide shirt for each paid membership and proceeds from Vicksburg car show to pay for this. 5 A SAD NOTE TO ALL... Doug "DUWAT" Henslee We lost one of our favorite club members Douglas David (Doug) (Duwat) Henslee, 56, peacefully passed away at his home Thursday, May 15, Doug was born February 29, 1952, in Urania, Louisiana. He graduated from Monterey High School in Monterey, Louisiana where he was also baptized in August 1967 at Monterey First Baptist Church. He attended Louisiana Tech University and received a license in aviation. As an airline captain on a L10-11 for ATA airlines, he traveled the world. Doug was a member of Brandon First United Methodist Church. He and his wife, Linda, enjoyed participating in the Corvette Club. Doug was loved very much and will be greatly missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer David and Lurlene Roan Henslee. Survivors include: his loving wife, Linda; children, David Douglas Henslee and Cole Lauchlin Henslee; brother, Thomas and wife, Amy; and numerous nieces and nephews. Corvette Funfest, sponsored by Mid America, Effingham, IL Our group will leave Jackson Friday morning, 9/19 at 7:30am from the Madison, MS WalMart parking area. This event is a "customer appreciation party" hosted every year by Mid America Motorworks as a way of saying "thank you" to their Corvette customers. Corvette Funfest is held at Mid America Motorworks campus in Effingham, IL. It is one of the largest Corvette gatherings in the world.
