1 Third Quarter 2018 Indianapolis Indianapolis Section SectionStar Star Indianapolis, Indiana Inside This Issue President s Message Message from the president 1 MBCA Information 2 Calendar 3 Sara s Notes 6 Ads 5 a very few newsletters will be printed in house and mailed by me. You can also find the latest News 7 (and previous) newsletter(s) on our MBCA website 500section.mbca.org (which I strongly en WPAFB Museum Trip 4 INDY 500 SECTION GOING TO DIGITAL NEWSLETTER! NO NEED TO WATCH YOUR MAILBOX, THIS IS YOUR NEWSLETTER! Due to continued strain on our budget, the 500 Section is moving to a digital newsletter. Only courage everyone to check out) or on our Facebook page MBCA500section. We are trying to catch up to modern times but could sure use a person well versed in using the computer to assist your stone age president. Help, please!! Well, the second quarter has gone by very quickly. Our never ending winter forced postponement of our trip to WPAFB Museum and Tech Session. The museum trip is coming up July 14th (information Welcome New Members Celeste Berry R Kent Bolerjack Robert and Candy Feeser Stephen Foglio inside) followed the next weekend by a fun Dine Drive Dine rally visiting 5 historic covered bridges Christopher and Audra Buckman in Indiana s Rush County (information on last page of newsletter). Tech session date is still not set. Stephen and Cindy Golliher The section has had a very good quarter with 8 new members joining and 15 members renewing their Dan Turner memberships. The board and planning committee continue to strive to offer events that will be of interest to all our members and hope our section can continue to grow and have fun! Sara and I attended our first ever Starfest event in Birmingham, AL. It was a fun week of road rallies and activities despite being terribly hot and humid. Seeing the MBUSI factory was still a fascinating time even though production was crippled by the magnesium supplier s fire in Detroit. Festivities for us concluded with the banquet Saturday night while for most others, they continued with extensive driving events at the Talladega and Barber racing facilities Sunday and Monday. Starfest is an enormous undertaking and the Alabama Section did a momentous job getting it all put together. Sara and I hope to see many members join us at our two July events. I ve been looking forward to seeing Wright Patterson AFB Museum again after seeing it once about 30 years ago. We ve got a fun morning and early afternoon planned for all who can join us to see the covered bridges of Rush County. Dan Aiken Thank You, for Renewing Loyal Members Hannelore Braboe Drew Butzow Patrick Duffy Samuel Feinberg Terry Fulk Richard Huntzinger Bruno Hyten Larry & Sharol Laczkowski James & Susan Lingar Brian McCoy Gary Reklau John Simpson Leonard & Marilyn Sturgeon Dave & Carole Weaver Gerald Zore

6 6 NEWS SARA S NOTES THINGS I DIDN'T EXPECT AT STARFEST The Mercedes factory having to nearly shut down because of a fire at their magnesium supplier's factory in Michigan (they kept a couple of lines operational for those on the tour each day). -A new Mercedes dealership whose service area floors were so clean you could eat off them. -Scorching hot weather in May but great curvy roads for rallying. -Several impressive floors of colorful motorcycles and historic vehicles at the Barber Motorsports Complex. -A tour guide at the Air Museum of the South explaining a recently declassified Russian plot to destroy Honolulu with a nuclear weapon in 1968, thwarted by a conscientious captain who blew up the rocket and subsequently his submarine and crew rather than carry out the attack (true story - look up The Azorean Project). THINGS I DID EXPECT TO SEE AT STARFEST A comfortable week at a Hilton Hotel -Great discounts (some 75%!) at the Mercedes Factory Store -Meeting new interesting people who value fine cars and fun driving experiences

7 7 POKER RUN TO THE BEEF HOUSE Six cars joined Kevin and Cindy for their Poker Run to The Beef House out IN 32 to Covington, IN. The really neat thing about this rally was three brand new members joined us for the trip. Welcome to Robert and Candy Feeser, Dan Turner and Steve and Cindy Gollihers. We were joined at The Beef House by our Illinois members Romeo and Marie Zamberletti. We all had a great time and great food! Ironically, our hosts won the Poker Rally and their lunch on the club with a pair of aces and a pair of deuces. Kevin and Cindy had the winning hand! We were able to enjoy the first half of our ride with convertible tops down until the rains came. Still a fun day for all for a last minute rally! FOR SALE 1991 MERCEDES-BENZ 560SEC FOR SALE Mercedes-Benz SEC (Roadhouse) Ice blue/tan interior; last of the distinctive classy looking M.B. 105k miles; all books and maintenance records; updated A/C; new tires; everything works like new; plus electronic anti- rust, electronic animal alert, electronic ungo alarm, keyless entry. There we will meet up with the Cincinnati Section at 10am to tour the fabulous museum. After our tour we will drive to Young s Dairy for lunch with our neighboring section. This should be a fabulous day led by retired LtCol Dan Blaney, USAF. Rush County Covered Bridge Dine Drive Dine Rally July 9:00 am Join us at 9am at the Bluebird Restaurant in Morristown for breakfast. After breakfast we ll start our rally to see and drive over 5 historic covered bridges in Rush County. At the end of our almost 50 mile scenic ride we ll have lunch at the historic St. Paul Tavern in the quaint old town of St. Paul, IN. Should be a fun day for all who come! 11th Annual Show And Shine August 1:00pm Once again we ll gather at West Park in Carmel (2700 W. 116th St.) for our pitch in BBQ lunch to meet other members, enjoy great food and show off our Mercedes.
