It was the first time a competition of this level occurred in Angola. This led to the creation of a team with competencies that will now play an im- portant role in achieving the 2016 AUSC REGION V under 20 Youth Games. The competition will take place in the same pool where they held the 2015 zonal basically no major changes, a 50 meters swimming pool. The organization of these two important competitions in Angola, is giving a boost mode, which aims to increase sub- stantially the number of practitioners in the coming years to achieve great results in the medium and long term. Since the completion of the 13th Swimming Championships, the number of sport practitioners have doubled, revealing the excellent work that is being developed by Angola Swimming Federation. cont page 2
2 Southern African Message from the President To become a world class regional aquatic confederation developing aquatics and nurturing world class athletes to achieve podium performances at major continental and international events. Dear Friends As 2016 draws to an end CANA Zone 4 can certainly say that it was another remarkable year for us. Our Zone has continue to excel both in and out of the water. The leadership of our member federations has been phenomenal in this respect. Despite the numerous challenges that we face on a daily basis we have ensured that aquatics have grown I our Zone. We have definitely made our vision To become a world class regional aquatic confederation developing aquatics and nurturing world class athletes to achieve podium performances at major continental and international events to become a reality. Our athletes have continued to do us proud of world and continental stage. The performances of Chad and Cameron at the Rio Olympics were certainly the highlight of the year. It has also been encouraging to see our swimmers beginning to medal at the various continental and regional events from across more countries. This current year has seen us host a number of competitions. The year started with the hosting of our Zone 4 Championships in Mauritius which included for the first time an open water event. South Africa hosted a very successful Senior Africa Championships where 9 of our member countries participated. In addition Zimbabwe held the qualifiers for the African Junior Water Polo and South Africa hosted the Zone 4 Junior Water Polo champs. Not to be outdone Mozambique held a regional competition which clubs from South Africa and Angola took part. Teams from Zambia and South Africa too part in the 2 nd CANA Zone 3 championships which was held in Rwanda. Our competition year will end in December in Angola where the African Union Region 5 Youth Games will be held. The focus for 2017 will be our Zone 4 Championships in Zimbabwe which will for the first time also include water polo. Our governance structures remain good, however there are still areas requiring our attention and these we will have to work on in the coming year. Good luck ad all the best for 2017 Kind regards Jace Jace Naidoo President Page 2

In the tournament Yanick António won the 50 meters free race in the age group and the athlete Kaio Fafitine do Ferroviário de Nampula, won all the races in which he participated in the 9-10 year age group. In the tournament there is the victory of Yanick António in the 50 meters free race in the age group and the athlete Kaio Fafitine do Ferroviário de Nampula, who won all the races in which he participated in the 9-10 year scale. The Mozambique hopes to grow this event into a CANA Zone 4 East Coast competition for clubs from around the neighbouring countries. This will include Swaziland, Zimbabwe and South Africa. FINA REFEREES SCHOOL IN SOUTH AFRICA South Africa hosted a FINA Water Polo school in November in Johannesburg. The event was attended by 14 senior referees from across South Africa. Zone 4 has seen a growth in Water Polo over the last few years. The Junior Championships has sparked an interest in the sport and has created opportunities for additional players to compete. The School will allow for referees to participate in additional international matches. 4 Southern African CANA Zone Zim gets Ready To become a world class regional aquatic confederation developing aquatics and nurturing world class athletes to achieve podium performances at major continental and international events. The Zimbabwe Aquatic Union looks forward to welcoming all Cana Zone IV athletes to the Cana Zone IV Swimming and Waterpolo Championships that will be held in Bulawayo - "The City of Kings" In 2014 Bulawayo played host to the African Union Region 5 Games. For that event the pool and surrounds were renovated and new 25m warm-up/ Waterpolo pool was constructed alongside the pre -existing 50m Pool. Some basic further renovations/ improvements have been ongoing and we are now very proud of this facility. The event has been approved by FINA as a Qualifying event for the 17th Fina World Championships to be held in Budapest, Hungary in In line with the Zone's efforts to promote Waterpolo, we felt it would be beneficial to incorporate the 3rd Zone IV Waterpolo Championships with the traditional Swimming Championships. This will ensure spectator opportunities, but more importantly, it is our hope that a Waterpolo spark will be ignited in non Waterpolo playing countries and that we can further develop this discipline in our region. Whilst the political arena in Zimbabwe may be a bit shaky at present, this has not prevented us in our plans to host a successful event. Please be assured that should the safety of our visitors be in question at any time before the event, we will correspond with all countries and tell you what is happening on the ground. At this point in time there is nothing to be concerned about, however we can advise that you will not be able to use cards to access cash (and indeed possibly some services), therefore please carry US$, South African Rand or Botswana Pula with you to cover you during your stay. It is important to meet the deadline dates, especially when paying for accommodation. Our special deal with the hotels closes and must be paid on the 15th January - thereafter we cannot guarantee the price of the accommodation, and any extra charges will be for your account. Teams will be accommodated in The Holiday Inn (4 star) and the Rainbow Hotel (3 star). All meals will be served at the hotels. Flights into Bulawayo are limited, but should be sufficient if booked well enough in advance. Transport to and from airport, hotel and pool will be arranged. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us on cana17loc@gmail.com, or zaupresident@zimaquatics.co.zw AUSC REGION 5 ANGOLA 2016 from page 1 The purpose of the mode of practitioners of growth is the massification of swimming and the positive impact of such actions on youth and the general population. four days, with over 60 participants, which will be working in AUSC games.
