On behalf of the National organizing committee of the World Logging Championship (WLC) 2018 we invite you to Håkons Hall and Lillehammer August 2nd - 5th. In this guide you will find useful information about the championship, like the program, description of the disciplines, background information, who to watch etc. Through three exciting days the about 130 competitors from 28 different countries will compete in 6 different disciplines with a chainsaw. For the first time in WLC- history there will also be a women s class during this years championship. Norwegian Rural Youth (NBU) is the national host of the World Logging Championship NBU is an organization by and for youth with over 7000 members in more than 100 local teams. The organization works within the core fields activity, rural politics and organizational schooling. NBU yearly hosts a large number of local, regional and national championships within a broad field of disciplines, where logging is one. NBU is also host organization of the Norwegian Loggers team. The number of participating national teams at the World Championships is now so great that the hosting of the World Cup reqires a professional organisation with a powerful, international planning. That applies for the sponsors as well. The International Association Logging Championships ialc is an association established according to Swiss law and with headquarters in Basel. The ialc is supported by its members.

3 press conference: thursday aug.2nd the disciplines where Håkons Hall - 2nd floor PRECISION FELLING Trees, reaching 18 meters high, must be cut down within three minutes, which is aimed to fall as near as possible to a pre-determined marker post. During the discipline, one must work within the valid safety regulations and working techniques. WHEN Thursday August 2nd 12:00-13:100 Meet FITTING ANOTHER CHAIN The Norwegian team Representatives from ialc, the national organizing committee and the sponsoring pool With a ready to use chainsaw, one must dismantle and assemble the cutting apparatus. The chain must be taken off, the bar must be turned and another chain must be fitted. The new chain must be fitted so that the chainsaw is ready to use in the two following disciplines without adjustments. The world record (which is held by a Norwegian) stands at 8,36 seconds! At the press conference we will give a short presentation of the championship. You can meet and greet the members of the norwegian team, as well as getting a tour of the arena. This must be done by cutting the first half upwards from beneath the log and the second half from the top. The contestant gets the highest points when the upper and downward cuts meet each other, without a step, within the marked red zone and at right-angles to the length of the log. The disc must be cut at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the stem. The contestant must try to cut the whole disc without damaging the board. Damaging the board will lead to zero points for the accuracy of the cut. The discipline will be performed while the log is in a thin layer of sawdust that hides where the log contacts the surface of the board. LIMBING In a cylindrically trimmed stem, 30 round branches, all equal in diameter and branching pattern, will be placed, to be cut off by the contestant. The branches must be cut level with the stem, as quickly and as safely as possible. RELAY RACE The relay race is a team competition in which the contestants must cut off a wooden wheel of a specially set-up standing or lying tree in the shortest possible time. Apart from the time, the referees draw special attention to the compliance of the security regulations. 5 IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THE MEDIA With our press accreditation you will get access to all arenas during the championship. Cards of accreditation can be picked up at the information booth outside of Håkons Hall. By request it is possible to borrow office space + WiFi in Håkons Hall during the WLC2018. If you want access to the inner parts of the arenas this can only happen after special appointment, and only with correct safety wear. It is possible to lend protection gear if needed. Photographing/filming/interviews etc. must happen without bother for competitors, referees, helpers and others at the arena.
