2 2 India s biggest contest for women programmers concluded recently with the crowning of winners at a gala ceremony in Bengaluru. Snehlata Mishra was crowned TechGig Geek Goddess 2018, along with winners from other themes. This edition had more than 69,700 registrations, which is by far the highest number as compared to the earlier editions. Here s a quick wrap-up on the event. With these powerful lines, the much-awaited hackathon for women technologists - TechGig Geek Goddess was declared open in August Ninety-five days later, on the finale day too, these lines were used to welcome the competition finalists where India s notable women technology leaders were in attendance at The Den hotel in Bengaluru. During the contest, these lines reiterated the basic premise and ethos of TechGig Geek Goddess an event envisaged exclusively to celebrate the technical prowess of women technologists in India. TechGig India s leading IT learning platform has been hosting this event annually along with IT industry stalwarts who share the same vision and passion to promote the cause of diversity in technology firms. TechGig Geek Goddess 2018 marked the fourth edition of this marquee event. This edition was presented by American Express, a globally integrated payments company. Goldman Sachs, a leading global investment bank and active investor in India, was the title sponsor for this edition. Other than the main coding contest, this edition also hosted two theme-based hackathons, namely IoT Hackathon and Machine Learning Hackathon. Among these, Machine Learning emerged as the most popular skill based on the number of registrations. After subsequent quality checks and skill rounds, 150 women programmers were invited for the final coding round and presentations to the jury on November 23, 2018 in Bengaluru. These finalists braved the rainy weather to be present for five and a half hours of coding round. The next day was dedicated to the Women Disruptors Conference 2018, which hosted a series of panel discussions and fireside chats by topnotch women technology leaders. The idea of hosting these leaders was to facilitate a direct conversation between the hackathon finalists and industry leaders, where the contest participants could learn a thing or two from the women who are ruling the Indian IT industry. The Women Disruptors Conference 2018 saw more than 25 women technology leaders from companies such as IBM, Oracle, Capgemini, Dell IT, Microsoft, Verizon, Juniper, Wipro, ThoughtWorks India, Intuit, PayPal, Accenture, American Express, Goldman Sachs, Brillio and others. These women leaders exchanged their ideas and opinions on diversity and women representation in the technology companies. India s first specially-abled IAS officer Ira Singhal, and known author Anvita Bajpai too graced the conference. The highlight of the conference were two special talk sessions by women venture capitalists from Patamar Capital and VentureEast. TechGig Geek Goddess 2018 saw a packed house and enthusiastic participation from the hackathon finalists and industry leaders alike. All the

3 43 sessions were designed to be interactive where contest finalists in the audience asked questions from the panellists. The questions ranged from seeking personal advice to understanding the industry outlook of the esteemed panellists. There was an unmatched enthusiasm and excitement at the event. This enthusiasm reached its peak when a fun-filled Zumba session started. Everybody from conference speakers to participants were grooving and jiving to popular dance numbers. Before the excitement levels dropped, the TechGig team gave everyone one more reason to rise from their seats and cheer on! The team presented a teaser of the upcoming TechGig Code Gladiators 2019 a coding competition which is honoured with Guinness world record for being the largest programming event by participation. The audience cheered on as the teaser video clip played on, describing the upcoming hackathon. The day concluded with a glitzy prize distribution ceremony. Snehlata Mishra was crowned TechGig Geek Goddess 2018 and she took home the winner s trophy, merit certificate and a cheque of Rs 1,50,000. A jubilant Snehlata Mishra said, I didn t expect to win at this contest. I just gave it my best shot and I m extremely happy for winning this title. I must thank TechGig for giving me this opportunity. Other than the title honour, eight more winners were declared in other categories. Each year, with TechGig Geek Goddess, our focus is to bring India s best women coders to limelight and give them the best platform to showcase their technical prowess. We also invite leading technology companies to witness this mega coding spectacle where the brightest minds battle it out for the top honours. I am delighted to announce that this year s TechGig Geek Goddess 2018 surpassed participation levels of all previous editions. The energy and enthusiasm of participants was infectious and I hope this competitive spirit continues throughout their careers.
