3 III. ACTIVITIES OF JANUARY TO DECEMBER 2015 A. National Reunions Name of the event:* SWYAAB Ramadan Gathering Date: July 2015 Manama Number of participants: 35 During the holy month of Ramadan, friends and family usually gather at night before starting their fast for a nice meal where they wear traditional clothes and have a variety of dishes, this gathering is locally referred to as ghabga. Thereafter, SWYAAB hosted a ghabga event in the middle of Ramadan 2015 for all the SWYers in Bahrain. Activities and games where held, with many thoughtful prizes. Each SWYer joined with a tasty Bahraini dish and a trendy jalabiya or thoub making sure a nice shot of memory was taken in the fun photo booth. Name of the event: Reception An elite of Bahraini Participants in Japan Government Programs Date: 25 February 2015 Budaiya Number of participants: 17 The Ambassador of Japan, Mr. Kiyoshi Asako has invited SWYAAB board members, and SWY27 participants among other distinguished guests to a reception dinner at his residence in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The reception dinner commenced with a speech from the Japanese Ambassador highlighting the strong ties and relationship between Japan and Bahrain in terms of youth development and the initiatives that

4 4 SWYAAB Country Report 2015 have taken place. Followed by that, the SWY27 participants presented their trip and series of activities that they went through. The buffet was then served and the guests networked and discussed on youth development and related initiatives. Name of the event: SWYAAB BBQ Gathering Date: 13 May 2015 Manama Number of participants: 22 A couple of months after the arrival of the delegation, a casual gathering was held at the Youth Innovation Centre whereby members of SWYAAB and Japanese community attended the event. This event started by the presentation of Majeed Almajed-SWY26 where he shared his experience of his trip to Jordan in 2014 regarding a youth development training program through nomination and full support he received from SWYAAB. In addition, SWY27 presented their journey and shared their experience with SWYAAB members and the Japanese community. SWYAAB members were invited to design a new brand for the association. The branding included the logo, letterhead, envelopes and slides. Three ex-participants competed and Ms. Haifa Hadi SWY27 won a Lenovo tablet for designing the best logo. She was presented with the award during the event.

5 Name of the event: Emperor of Japan 82 nd Birthday Reception Date: 9 December 2015 Manama Number of participants: 22 The Japanese Ambassador Mr. Kiyoshi Asako and his wife Mrs. Sayaka Asako have invited SWYAAB members among other distinguished guests from ministries, governmental organizations, the private sector, and Japanese community in Bahrain to attend a reception celebrating the Emperor of Japan s 82 nd birthday at the Ritz Carlton Hotel. SWYAAB members were able to network with the Japanese Ambassador and esteemed guests. SWYAAB had a special guest from SWY Egypt who also attended the event.

6 6 SWYAAB Country Report 2015 Name of the event: SWYAAB Camp Gathering 2015 Date: 9 December 2015 Sakhir Number of participants: 20 In collaboration with Ministry of Youth and Sports, SWYAAB hosted a youth delegation from India at SWYAAB annual camping event. The Indian delegation had an opportunity to experience the camping season in Bahrain, as well as building a network with Bahraini youth and exchange their experiences. B. Receiving ex-swy Participants A number of SWYAAB members have received and hosted ex-swy participants in Bahrain during Some have also met with ex-swy participants in other parts of the world. JPYs SWY27 visiting Bahrain Investing in the Marine Life of Bahrain Event SWYAAB organized a voluntary activity with 22 Japanese's youth who were visiting Bahrain in February The participants visited Reef Arabia artificial reef construction site and had a presentation about the marine life in Bahrain and how can they invest in it. The participants learnt about designing, constructing and deploying of artificial reefs in the sea then the too part in constr cting the reef ball The participants had a trip to Durrat Al Bahrain (the 2nd largest artificial island in Bahrain) to experience the way to deploy artificial reef ball at the sea. They shuttled in small boats to deploy small reef balls at the sea.

7 JPYs SWY27 visiting Bahrain Hosted by Jihad AlBinfalah (SWY 10, SWY27) In February 2015, with the arrival of the JPYs along SWY27 Bahrain delegation to Bahrain, Jihad AlBinfalah the national leader of SWY27 Bahrain hosted a friendly gathering to all JPYs to experience the traditional, usual dinner gatherings that happen regularly. In this gathering, JPYs were able to experience tasty shawarmas and authentic Arabic food in a lovely villa in Saar village.

8 8 SWYAAB Country Report 2015 JPYs SWY27 visiting Bahrain Hosted by Wafa AlAmmadi (SWY 10, SWY18) As part of SWY27, Bahraini ex participants hosted the Japanese delegates visiting Bahrain. Wafa hosted three young Japanese ladies. Beside experiencing the traditional food and drinks at home with a small Bahraini family, the participants went to an Arabic bookshop to buy books, visited a Girl's high school, Bahrain International Circuit, Tree of life and last family tent (private camp). JPYs SWY27 visiting Bahrain Hosted by Budoor Kamal (SWY 23) As part of SWY27, Bahraini ex participants hosted the Japanese delegates visiting Bahrain. Budoor hosted three young Japanese ladies. Budoor took the three JPYs on a tour around Bahrain, had a number of Bahraini authentic food and drinks, visited the souq, camels, and also a ride to the bridge that connects Bahrain with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The JPYs experienced a traditional family lunch gathering as well.

9 JPYs SWY27 visiting Bahrain Hosted by Wafa AlAmmadi (SWY 10, SWY 18) SWYAAB female members and the Japanese female participants were invited at a weekend house for a traditional BBQ, it was a different experience and many members from old Bahraini batches joined which made the gathering a beautiful SWY night.

10 10 SWYAAB Country Report 2015 Nada Tarradah SWY 25 meets with Lula Toussaint SWY 25 Mexico Nada visited Cancun, Mexico in March 2015 where she met with Lula Toussaint from SWY 25 Mexico. Lula was very generous and hospitable to show Nada around and present to her Mexico. They shared many memorable moments of SWY 25. C. Voluntary (Social Contribution) Projects Post-Program Activities Name of the event: Youth City 2030 / Leadership Centre Date: Summer 2015 Manama Number of participants: Individual effort by a number of SWYers Every summer, many SWYers volunteers to organize and train in youth at the leadership center of Youth City 2030, which takes place under the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The two main programs in the leadership center which are run and led by SWYers are Believe and Keys. Believe is run by Mohamed Alwazzan-SWY26, and the organizing team include Reem Aljeeb-SWY26, Noor Buhusayen-SWY27 and Fatima Foaud- SWY28. Keys is run by Yaqoob Alnajem- SWY22, and the organizing team include Faisal Alkhayyat-SWY26 and Nadia Aljeeb-SWY27. Both these programs train youth between the age of 17-25years on leadership skills and enhance their social and employability skills.

11 Name of the event: Youth City 2030 / Leadership Centre Date: August 2015 Manama Number of participants: 5 SWYAAB participated in August 2015 at youth city 2030 that is organized annually by Ministry of Youth and Sports. The event focus on key growth areas and promote a bright future for the Bahraini youth. The aim of our participation was to share SWYAAB members experience about Japan and to promote the Ship for the World Youth program. The SWYAAB members talked about their experience in Japan and the SWY program. The participants presented Japanese's games and activities like telling sadako and the thousand crane story, then they organized origami session, catching fish with paper (kingyo sukui), had sushi session and served Japanese's snacks and tea.

Others SWY 28 Selection Process & Preparation Selection Process: Following Bahrain s invitation to participate in the 28 th Ship for World Youth Program, presently known as SWY Leaders Program, SWYAAB worked closely with MYS to select Bahrain s new representatives The selection process and criteria was enhanced to ensure that the new representatives were chosen in the most rightful way and aim at fulfilling the objectives of the program. The selection process included an application form, interview session, and group discussion to view their teamwork and passion in completing tasks. The screening committee consisted of five members from SWYAAB including members from the board, previous NLs with experience, and one member from MYS. The screening committee would use grading sheets during each stage where every applicant was awarded points for each key performance indicator. These were then calculated to overview the top applicants. MYS then reviewed the top applicants where they selected the final representatives of the program. The announcement of registering and applying for the program targeted youth from different backgrounds and interests, with the aim to leave the participation open to any youth. Those who are involved in community work or even those with no volunteer experience are given the chance to enroll. In order to reach the largest segment of the youth population in Bahrain, a number of channels were utilized to invite interested individuals to apply; these channels incl ded anno ncements over SWYAAB s social media channel - instagram, SWYAAB s mailing list press release in local newspapers and word of mo th This brought together around 50 applicants who were interested in the program and went through the screening process. SWYAAB organized building capacity program for the SWY28 Bahraini delegation which includes self-development courses that helped in preparing Bahrain youth to take part in SWY program. The program covered: protocols and etiquette, leadership, team building, Japanese's culture, personnel development plan, discover Islam, human rights. Name of the event: International Youth Day Date: 13 August 2015 Manama Number of participants: 1 SWYAAB was recognized by Ministry of Youth and Sports for their efforts and contribution to the community in Bahrain and globally. And for being one of the recognized youth association for their role in the civil work.

13 Name of the event: The mooring of Shabab Oman Sailing Ship Reception Date: 30 October 2015 Khalifa Port Number of participants: 1 SWYAAB were invited to attend the Mooring of Shabab Oman sailing ship reception where Faisal AlKhayat SWY26 attended. Shabab Oman is the official sail training ship of the Royal Navy of Oman to train young sailors. Since she joined the fleet of the RNO in 1979 Shabab has sailed the world s oceans pla ing a e role in the Nav s tas of helping to maintain friendl relations with man foreign co ntries visiting more than 140 ports and sailing more than 250,000 nautical miles. Shabab Oman visited Bahrain as was of its destinations to promote Sultan Qaboos sailing troph which is presented each ear to the individ al vessel operator or sail training organisation for outstanding services to sail training for o ng people Name of the event: Honoring Bahraini Leaders Date: 16 December 2015 Manama Number of participants: 2 His majesty the King honors two SWYAAB members His Majesty, the King of Bahrain, has awarded for their dedication in serving the Kingdom, Ms. Fajer Mufeez SWY23 and Mrs. Wafa Al Ammadi SWY10, SWY18 the Efficienc Award. In his speech he touched upon the valuable and successive contributions of

14 14 SWYAAB Country Report 2015 Bahrain's men and women. Such contributions represent an invaluable wealth and a guiding light for future generations that inspire them and encourage them to continue the trail of nation building and dedication. IV. Conclusion This brings together the concl sion of SWYAAB s Co ntr Report for 2015; wishing the members all the best in the year 2016 filled with new initiatives that support the objectives of the association.
