4 The Chair explained the nature of tomorrow s programme which still was slightly open ; many different types of presentations could be expected and Athlete Commission Cross-Country Skiing reps visit. Today s additions were to include: group work question preparation to athletes for tomorrow, gender equality debate, next Youth Seminar topic brainstorm. 5. Approval of the minutes of the meeting in Zurich (SUI), The minutes were approved unanimously. 6. FIS update, Michal Lamplot Michal summarised coming JWSCs venues. The presentation is available on the FIS Cloud: Moreover he asked members to give feedback of: The timing of the JWSC event instant feedback was as late calendar wise as possible What kind of competition formats we would like to see in coming events far too big question to handle in the meeting homework for everyone. Action point: Everyone to come back with a wish list of competition formats for coming JWSC events from their nation taking into account the FIS strategy but pushing for ideas. 7. FIS update World Snow Day, Snowkidz by Andrew Cholinski By now altogether 6,483 events in 53 countries with 3.1 mill participants have been arranged over the years around Bring Children to the Snow concept (Snowkidz 2,943 events by 49 nations and WSD 2018: 516 events in 46 countries with participants). In terms of FIS support: there are Snowkidz Safety Animations in 11 languages and POW7; seven steps for environment protection in six languages, old tool kits are called now Care Packages and an abundance of other digital tools available: Burton Riglet presenting and sponsoring the Award. WSD Award a yearly award and having again different categories. Proposal of the Snowsports and parent co-operation guideline? This is in the hands of the FIS Council as part of the overall Good Governance project work. 8. First ever Junior Coach Seminar feedback, Helen Ingebretsen (NOR) Helen gave an overview (Sub-Committee for Roller Skiing also present) of the first ever Basic Skills youth and children coach seminar held in Norway at the end of April. Recognition went also to Christian and Austria being in readiness to organise this if need be, however the circumstances led it to be arranged in Skeikamp/Norway. 14 nations attended and some 40 participants. The theme was Many good and happy skiers. The essence seemed to be really learning by doing; activities for kids do not always need to be directed and supervised. XCX arena/technical parcour area building/planning played an important role. It was important to get teaching experience of the kids who really had no previous skiing skills. Loads of pictures, videos etc. available on ie. SKI-TV.no. Overall joint opinion was to be something to be pushed forward; to follow the initial vision of creating the coach pool and to get knowledge transfer that way in aid to support smaller nations. Minutes Sub-Committee for CC Youth & Children s Questions, Costa Navarino (GRE), 14/
5 Proposal to the Cross-Country Skiing Committee to establish a working group drafting an exact proposal including the vision, finance, operational plan and activation of developing nations by Zurich. The wish was to inform the FIS Council of the need of developing the FIS education system at this level. Thorough discussion and exchange of ideas followed how Solidarity/IOC funding sits in this. Big thanks to Norway for organising this, especially to Helen Ingebretsen and Brit Baldishol and also to Georg Zipfel, Germany for assisting greatly in coaching. This was clearly a huge next step in our work. 9. Joint meeting with Sub-Committee for Rollerski Together with the Sub-Committee for Roller Skiing Chair, Martins Niklass, a joint meeting was hosted; both groups introduced themselves and looked at possible synergies and challenges. A working group to elaborate more on the subject was established and from Y&C: Helen (NOR), Jenny (SWE), Brit (observer NOR), Roy (GBR) and Satu (FIN). More defined mission and role to be discussed. Everyone agreed joint session was a good and needed collaboration initiative. 10. Follow-up from last meeting Examples of Prevention of harassment policies in NSAs The Chair informed that FIS has looked at this and there will be a policy presented to Council during the Congress. This most likely will give everyone a useful tool. Medical Committee questions: Young kids and double poling in mass start and Temperature limitations in cold weather Due lack of time these questions were postponed to Zurich. New competition models Due lack of time this item was postponed to Zurich. Decision making process for Y&C questions in NSAs Quick overview of the decision process in Y&C questions in different countries. Action point: Medical Committee questions and new competition models to be discussed in Zurich, be prepared and get input from your colleagues at home. 11. China project, Georg Zipfel (GER) This presentation was moved for the Tuesday workshop session. 12. Other matters arising Group work question preparation was skipped, everyone should think of good questions to athletes on Tuesday. Youth Seminar content could include videos from youngsters; why have you chosen Cross-Country skiing as your sport, why did you decide to quit, what kind of competitions you would like to see many nations agreed to help preparing these if needed. Quick statement about gender equality at this level; not really an issue at least not in the sense of equal distances. Situation to be monitored if anything significant is being noticed. The Sub-Committee for Ladies Cross-Country Skiing will discuss this more in detail. 13. Next meeting FIS Autumn meetings, Zürich (SUI), FIS Calendar Conference, Cavtat-Dubrovnik (CRO), Minutes Sub-Committee for CC Youth & Children s Questions, Costa Navarino (GRE), 14/
6 14. Closing of the meeting The Chair closed the meeting at hrs. Luke Bodensteiner (USA) interviewed them. The outcome was pretty much: friends and fun affect greatly what sport you take up in order to attract youngsters we should demonstrate what all kind of sport it is possible to do when having Cross-Country as main sport. Presentations included: China City sprint, Georg/GER JWSC 2019 in Lahti/FIN, team FIN Portugal Snowkidz Award candidate: Ski4all, Pedro/POR International Roller Skiing Festival, Aleksander/RUS Children Olympic and Winter Festival, Lukas/CZE Thailand vision, Sueb/THA India development, Roshan/IND Next step after Basic Skills Seminar, Helen/NOR Some 35 observers/members attended the workshop.
