It involves rowing along a sea coast and out into the sea and is one of the fastest growing communities of rowers. It is especially popular in Italy, France and Great Britain. 4 Coastal rowing in Hong Kong ~Coastal rowing is ideally suited to Hong Kong waters ~The Around the Island Race (ATIR) is an annual iconic Hong Kong event ~Hong Kong Coastal Rowing Championships since 2013 ~Participation is growing year on year: Major annual races include Beau fort, Island Race Po Toi, Race Lamma Island Race, Stanley to Middle Island challenge, Head of the Bay etc ~Hong Kong has sent teams to the WRCC: 3 Photo courtesy of HKCRC ~ Bari, Italy 2012 ~Helsingborg, Sweden 2013 ~Thessaloniki, Greece 2014 Governing body: HKCRA Clubs with boats: RHKYC Hong Kong Sea School HKUST ~Lima, Peru 2015 ~ATIR could be linked with WRCC (e.g. the following weekend) LBC

5 About the WRCC 4 Photos courtesy of World Rowing ~ Awarded by International Rowing Federation (FISA) ~ Held every year ~ First run in 2007 in Mandelieu, France ~ Lima, Peru WRCC countries participated with over 200 rowers, men and women competing in three levels for single, double and four rowers ~ Racing over two days, plus a practice day ~ 4 6km course (approx minutes) ~ Open to club crews nominated by their member federations events/2015-world-rowing-coastalchampionships/event-information

Leverage existing infrastructure ~ The HKCRA and the RHKYC have experience hosting large sporting events in Hong Kong ~ Utilise the future potential and facilities of Hong Kong harbour and its environmen t of major sporting events, and future leisure facilities ~ Potential to host Asian coastal Rowing Championships in 2018 as a test event. Leverage past, present and future events ~ East Asian Games Rowing Events in 2009 ~Asian Rowing Junior Championships 2003 and 2008 ~ Around the Island Race (15 years running) with over 500 participants including rowing and paddling sports ~Volvo Ocean Race
