This is a practical guide to the media facilities at the Race Village. 3 China s History with the Volvo Ocean Race - Fast Facts China has a decade long history with the race. The race stopped in Qingdao - a first for China; Ian Walker s Green Dragon included the first Chinese sailor - Guo Chuan who was on board as Media Crew Member. The race stopped in Sanya; Team Sanya skippered by Mike Sanderson took part. The race stopped again in Sanya; Dongfeng Race Team skippered by Charles Caudrelier took part with Chen Jinhao Horace and Liu Xue Black as part of his crew. The race will visit Hong Kong SAR and Guangzhou for the first time; Dongfeng Race Team competing again with Horace and Black as part of the regular crew line-up; team Sun Hung Kai/Scallywag are the first Hong Kong based team to participate in the race. 3

Nansha Marina Nansha Marina, opened in 2011, aspires to be a model marina of China satisfying every boaters and yachtsmen s needs, designed and built to international standards.

4 Nansha Marina Nansha Marina, opened in 2011, aspires to be a model marina of China satisfying every boaters and yachtsmen s needs, designed and built to international standards. It provides a series of supporting facilities, ranging from an Optimist dinghy to the largest super yachts. The marina is also proud to be a member of the China Yacht Club Association and the UK Yacht Harbour Association. Under the nation s 12th Five-Year Plan, China s central government has pledged its efforts in making Nansha the centre of a service hub linking the mainland with Hong Kong and Macau. It is a significant move that would lift Nansha s status and act as a breakthrough point to reposition Nansha as a pioneer to create a new Guangzhou. Nansha is centrally located within the Pearl River Delta region, an integrated coastal city in the making and an ideal venue for the development of a marina leisure hub of Southern China. The Sailors Parade will commence at 1050 with the Volvo Ocean 65 boats docking out from the pontoon at There is a 70 nautical transitional leg to Hong Kong where the fleet will re-start Leg 6 to Auckland on 7th February from a starting line between Kowloon and Hong Kong island (to be finalised). 8

9 Pro-Am Races Pro-Am Racing on Sunday, 4 February is an opportunity for VIP guests to go sailing. Invitations to race on board are only issued by the teams. Skippers Press Conference The skippers press conference will be on Thursday, 1 February at 1630 local time. Location to be confirmed within Nansha Marina. Media accreditation International media to sign up to the Volvo Ocean Race media accreditation system prior to your arrival. You can do this by filling in your details on the following link: volvooceanrace-accreditation.com On the day that you arrive at the Race Village, please collect your accreditation from the Accreditation Centre. Please ensure that you have your ID with you. Local media to apply for media accreditation from the stopover. Press Boats Due to on-water restrictions there will be no Press Boats available for the media.
