3 Methodology Survey administration: February of 2014 Sampling strategy: schools were selected to generate statistically representative state-level and county-level estimates Students surveyed in all 67 Florida counties Final sample size was 65,917 across grades 6 through 12 The margin of error is less than 1.0 percentage point for M.S. and H.S. prevalence rates 3

4 Survey Validation 3,467 respondents (5.) identified and eliminated by one or more of five validation tests: ATOD exaggeration 1,306 Antisocial behavior exaggeration 688 Inconsistency 1,316 Fictitious drug 2,115 No response for more than 75% of the survey questions 814 4

23 Survey Quality How do you know your data are accurate and precise? 1. Supervise the survey team and review the methodology report 2. Check the data: look for extreme changes and illogical patterns 3. Compare results to an independent, external source 23

24 Trend Line Inconsistency 1. One (or both) of the surveys is methodologically inconsistent Both surveys are accurate, but each population has a different pattern of change.
