6 Travel Suggestions Flying to Newcastle Airport (Williamtown) Newcastle Airport is a large regional airport. Six different airlines fly to Newcastle. Links to their pages can be found here: It is about a half hour drive from Newcastle Airport to Maitland. If you are looking to hire a car to drive from the airport and don't know where to start, try here: Newcastle-Airport.aspx Maitland Direct by Train An option few people tend to consider is the X, but trains run regularly from Melbourne and Brisbane to Maitland. Depending upon which level of ticket you get for either of those trips you are looking at the $8 to $11 price mark (or half that if you are a Student or pensioner with a travel card), or you could pay double that for a sleeper carriage. The sleeper carriage experience comes well recommended, the advantage of it is you are basically getting a night's accommodation included in your ticket and you arrive early in the morning rested and ready to go. This option is probably better for coming from Brisbane than Melbourne, as Melbourne comes through Sydney and there is a wait of a couple of hours for the next X train, or you could catch a regular train (via the Newcastle Line changing at Hamilton for the Hunter Line). Without jumping services, from Melbourne takes about 16.5 hours, from Brisbane only 11 hours (which could be spent sleeping). Travelling by train you only have to get to the station 5 minutes beforehand, and not an hour or two like at the airport. If you are going to the track you want to get off at Maitland High Street which is abut 2m walk from the Track (timetable: Bus: There is also a bus network: You will want to get off at Maitland High Street.
