1 Welcome to the Winter sports season. We are proud of the hard work and commitment displayed by our Winter teams. Under the leadership of our coaching staff, each contest of the season promises to generate a high level of excitement and sportsmanship inherent to Lancer sports. The entire Bishop Amat High School community is grateful for your continued support of Lancer sports and the principles of Goodness, Discipline and Knowledge that we aim to develop in all the young men and women who proudly call themselves Bishop Amat Lancers. 2 Brandon Ertle, Head Varsity Coach Coach Brandon Ertle is in his 9th year at the helm of the Lancers Men s Basketball Program and 14th as a head coach. He has experience in coaching in the CIF Finals and the State Tournament and has been the Whittier Daily News Coach of the Year. Over the last 4 seasons his teams have averaged 20 wins and finished in the top 3 in one of the toughest leagues in all of CIF. Exciting runs in the playoffs have capped their efforts as CIF Semifinalists and Quarterfinalists. Coach Ertle is most proud of not only those young men playing at the next level but the 37 of 38 during his tenure who have gone to 4 year colleges across the country upon graduating from Bishop Amat. Coach Ertle holds a Bachelors degree in Business Management from Cal State Fullerton and a Masters in Education from University of La Verne. He teaches in the PE department. Richard Wiard, Assistant Varsity Coach Coach Richard Wiard is beginning his 31st year of coaching and 17th as head coach of the Lady Lancers. This will be Coach Wiard s 8th year as an assistant to Coach Ertle. His accolades include 2 State Championships, 5 CIF Titles, CIF Coach of the Year 3 times and San Gabriel Valley Tribune Coach of the Year 6 times. Coach Wiard brings years of unmatched success, experience and knowledge of the game to the Men s program. A graduate of Bishop Amat, Coach Wiard holds a Bachelors degree from Cal Poly Pomona and has earned 2 Masters Degrees from Azusa Pacific University. PabloAngel Flores, Varsity & JV Assistant Coach A 2008 graduate of Bishop Amat, Coach Flores will be entering his fourth year of coaching at his Alma Mater. While playing for Coach Ertle, he was a captain and Lancer Award winner due to his leadership and hard work. His duties include assistant Varsity and JV coach as well as Strength and Conditioning Coordinator. He is a full time student at Cal State Fullerton. Scott Wiard, JV Head Coach A 2009 graduate of Bishop Amat, Coach Wiard will be entering his fourth year of coaching at his Alma Mater. While playing for Coach Ertle, he was a captain and Lancer Award winner due to his leadership and hard work. Coach Wiard helped lead last year s Lady Lancers Basketball program to a CIF SS Championship. After assisting on the Varsity last year, his duties this year include Head JV Coach and Video Coordinator. He is a full time student at Cal Poly Pomona.

3 Jeff Tintle, Freshman Coach Coach Tintle will begin his ninth year of coaching at Bishop Amat. His duties include Freshman Coach, Director of Basketball Operations and Scouting and Assistant Athletic Director. During the fall and spring seasons Coach Tintle leads our very successful boys and girls Amat golf teams. He is a graduate of LMU and teaches in the Math department. Rick Santos, Freshman Coach Coach Santos will be entering his second year with the Bishop Amat Men s Basketball program. He has 26 years of coaching experience in the Philippines and the surrounding LA area. His duties include Freshman Coach and Director of Player Development. He led last year s freshman team to a 20-4 record while capturing the Charter Oak Tournament and Del Rey League Championships.

12 Richard Wiard, Head Coach Coach Wiard is beginning his 31st year in coaching and his 17th as Head Coach of the Lady Lancers. His teams have won over 400 games in those 17 years. During his tenure with the Lady Lancers, they have won 5 CIF Championships and have been to the state championship game 5 times, winning 2 state championships. The 2005 team finished a perfect 35-0 in winning the school s first state championship. Coach Wiard s teams have won 10 league titles and have finished second 5 times in his years as head coach. Coach Wiard has been named CIF Coach of the Year three times and San Gabriel Valley Coach of the Year six times. He is also a member of the basketball coaches association s board of directors serving as president from 2005 to A graduate of Bishop Amat, Coach Wiard has holds a bachelors degree from Cal Poly, Pomona and has earned two masters degrees from Azusa Pacific University. He currently teaches economics at Charter Oak High School. Coach Wiard and his wife, Kathie, live in San Dimas. They are the proud parents of Kristina (Amat 94), Michael ( 96), Kelly ( 97), Marc ( 00), Stephen ( 07), Scott ( 09), and Sarah ( 16). Scott Wiard, Assistant Coach Scott is a 2009 graduate of Bishop Amat and is in his 4th year of coaching basketball at Amat. As the varsity assistant, Scott is responsible for the Lady Lancer offense. His scouting and preparation were instrumental in the team s CIF championship last year. As a player he was a three year letterman and team captain as a senior. As a student at Amat, Scott earned the school s top academic honors in mathematics as a senior. He currently attends Cal Poly, Pomona majoring in mathematics. Sydni Myrick, Head Junior Varsity Coach Coach Myrick is in her 7th season as the Head JV Coach of the Lady Lancers. Coach Myrick graduated from Bishop Amat in 2000 and went on to earn both a bachelors and masters degree from the University of La Verne. As a player at Amat, Sydni earned All-CIF honors and was a member of our 1999 CIF championship team. At La Verne, she earned Conference Player of the Year honors. Sydni teaches at the Walden School in Pasadena. Coach Myrick lives with her husband, James, and their newborn son in Pomona.

14 Denae Ramos 10 JR G 5 4 Junior High: Torch Middle School Coach s Comments: Denae is in her 1st year on the varsity after 2 seasons on the junior varsity. She is working hard every day in practice to improve her ball handling and defense. She will come off the bench at both guard positions. Amanda Alvarado 12 JR G 5 5 Junior High: Suzanne Intermediate Coach s Comments: Amanda is a returning letter winner. She is an excellent athlete (also excelling in tennis). She is one of our best shooters. As Amanda improves her defense and ball handling she will push for playing time in the backcourt. Elisa Bicera 13 SO G 5 5 Junior High: St. Margaret Mary Coach s Comments: Elisa is in her 2nd year on the varsity team. She is an excellent shooter and spent many hours this summer improving her ball handling. She is working hard to improve defensively. She will come off the bench at both guard positions. Leeah Powell 15 SR F 5 6 Junior High: Ontario Christian Coach s Comments: Leeah is the returning CIF Player of the Year after helping us to the CIF Championship. Unfortunately, she tore her ACL in the summer and will miss the beginning of the season. She is rehabbing hard and when she returns will provide us with aggressive play on both ends of the floor.

15 Janae Chamois 20 JR G 5 5 Junior High: St. Louise de Marillac Coach s Comments: Janae is one of our best offensive players. She shoots the ball well and is very good at attacking the basket. She will move over from off guard to the starting point guard position this year. Her defense, ball handling, and decision making will be critical to our success. Paulina Santana 21 JR G 5 9 Junior High: Sacred Heart Coach s Comments: Paulina had an excellent year last year earning All-CIF honors. She is one of our best shooters and has worked really hard to improve other facets of her game. She must score in a variety of ways and continue to improve defensively if we are going to be successful. Mauriana Clayton 23 SR F 6 0 Junior High: Vanguard Preparatory Coach s Comments: Mauri is in her first year in the Lady Lancer program. She is a very talented player both offensively and defensively. Her ability to score and defend inside is something we have not had in a while. She must quickly acclimate herself to Lady Lancer basketball. Jennifer Vasquez 24 SR G 5 6 Junior High: Chino Jr. High Coach s Comments: Jennifer is a returning letter winner and one of our most experienced and versatile players. She is also one of our most improved players. She will often guard the other team s best offensive player. Her ability to defend multiple positions and score in a variety of ways makes her very important to our success. As a captain, we will rely on her for leadership and experience.

16 Damianna Bagues 32 SO F 5 8 Junior High: St. Benedict Coach s Comments: Dami is in her 1st year on the varsity. She is a good offensive player who can score with either hand and she shoots the ball well from the perimeter. As she gains experience and continues to improve her defense and rebounding she will provide us with depth in the post. Karen Dimayuga 33 SR F 5 7 Junior High: South Hills Academy Coach s Comments: Karen is in her 2nd year on the varsity and her 4th with Lady Lancer basketball. Karen is our most physical player and one of our best defenders. She is working hard on her offensive skills. She will come off the bench at forward. Dagmar Ramirez 42 JR F 5 8 Junior High: St. Emydius Coach s Comments: Dagmar is in her 3rd year on the varsity and had a great sophomore season in which she earned All-CIF honors. An excellent athlete who rebounds and attacks the basket very well, Dagmar has worked hard to improve her shooting and defense. She must continue to improve in these areas as well as her decision making if we are to be successful. Jodie Arevalo 44 JR F 5 6 Junior High: St. Bruno Coach s Comments: Jodie is in her 3rd year of varsity basketball. She is one of our best shooters and one of our hardest working players. She has worked hard to improve her defense and ball handling. As a back-up wing player, she will provide us with an offensive punch off the bench.
